I have been nervous about finding a new stylist, as I had extreme trust for my last one in San Diego. I found and chose Illumination from online reviews, and chose Stacy just from a gut feeling after reading her bio on their site. I arrived a bit early for my 4pm appointment to a dark, locked store, but Stacy showed up on time. We were the only ones on site during my appointment so I didn't have any interaction with any of the other stylists, but I'm very pleased with my time with Stacy! She's extremely warm and friendly, and easy and fun to chat with. She works quickly and efficiently, and got my mid-growth mess where it needed to be. I can tell she appreciates the business and I will continue to give her mine! Highly recommend Stacy at Illumination.

My brows grow a certain way that makes them difficult to shape properly. I've had my brows butchered by threading (never again!) and waxing at numerous other salons. I especially like her because she allows me to close my eyes and relax and doesn't feel the need to carry on a conversation with me the entire time. My introverted soul appreciates that so much.

Her space is always calming, spotless, and so thoughtfully put together, it feels like a reset every time I walk in! Her prices are truly great for the level of care, expertise, and quality she provides. Every appointment feels like such a treat, yet still so accessible. She is incredibly knowledgeable about the products she uses and is always happy to share why something works and how to get the best results. I now buy most of my skincare products directly from her because I trust her recommendations that much. And if there's ever something she's not 100% sure about, she will take the time to research it and follow up. For example, I recently started dealing with perioral dermatitis, and she went out of her way to look into the best approach and set me up with a new regimen. Her appointments are so relaxing and genuinely one of the highlights of my month. I always walk out feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and like I've taken real care of myself. The salon she works in is also adorable and always clean. Every service provider I've interacted with there has been warm, friendly, and welcoming. It's just a great environment overall. If you're looking for someone who is skilled, caring, detail-oriented, and genuinely invested in your skin, go see Braylinn. She's truly the best! IG: braysbeautybar

I visited Paige, a stylist I discovered on Instagram (instagram.com/theroothairdesign), and shared…read moremy desired hairstyle. Unfortunately, the results were disappointing. Initially, she apologized and offered to try again at no cost. However, upon my return, she had only made the issue worse, damaging my hair, leaving me to find a new stylist to help fix it, who states it is not safe to do anything to my hair for at least a month or 2 while using very expensive products to help gain the strength in my hair back. I have attached photographs that illustrate each outcome. Paige had given me only 38% back of the cost of the appointment, but had demonstrated a lack of concern/sympathy for addressing the situation or referring me to someone to could help for the traumatic experience she has inflicted upon me with my hair. So now I am just left with this final product of the severe orange and no blending for months to come... (To provide context, I am also 32 weeks pregnant, and my confidence is significantly diminished due to the changes in my body. I sought to regain my sense of beauty again through a hair appointment.) Regrettably, this is the outcome I received. I am sharing this information to warn other individuals seeking a stylist with naturally dark hair who are interested in a balayage.

Actually, if you have any hair at all you should see Jessie, but I have curly hair, and I know how difficult it is to get a good haircut. I have had a million bad cuts, and finally just started cutting and coloring it myself - which did not look good. I walked into the 3rd Floor Salon on a whim, because the sign said, "Walk-ins Welcome" and I was desperate for a good cut and color for an important event. I am *so* glad I took the chance on Jessie! My curls are back and the color is gorgeous! Jessie is a natural. She understands hair and color. She spent a lot of time looking at my hair to determine how my curls fall, checking the color top and bottom, quizzing me on my preferences and how my hair behaves, etc. She mixed up the most gorgeous color that looks natural, shiny, and is exactly the right shade. She made the cut look easy, and quickly restored my curls. I left my appointment with Jessie feeling like a million dollars, and completely confident. The Salon is great too. My first impression of it was comfortable. The atmosphere is wonderful - welcoming, cosy, and clean - nothing pretentious or stark. If you are looking for a skilled stylist, have curly hair or colored hair, want to find a comfy salon/spa, or simply just want to experience your best haircut ever, then visit Jessie at The 3rd Floor Salon. Just let me get my appointment in first because I found her first!!

I clearly explained what I was looking for and showed a video reference of someone with very similar hair color whose result was the goal--nothing extreme, just somewhere in that realm. I said that is where I want to lean into. I was also upfront that the only color on my hair was a demi-permanent service done over four months prior. As soon as my hair was blow-dried after shampooing, I could tell the result was not right. Even without my glasses, it was obvious. The final result was not a balayage at all, but a full head of very chunky VERY uneven yellow-to-orange highlights that look more like early-2000s foils than a modern, blended balayage. No toner was used. I was told a gloss was preferred instead, but the color clearly needed toning at minimum. The warmth was not controlled, and the highlights are extremely brassy and uneven. Mia was kind and pleasant, but the skills listed do not match the outcome I experienced. I left feeling upset and sick over the amount of money I paid, knowing immediately that this will require an expensive correction elsewhere. When I got home and really saw my hair in proper lighting, I cried. I know that I would never ask for a correction from the same stylist if this is how I left the salon. Never gonna happen. I've had this exact service done before--successfully--including at this same salon by another stylist, and on hair that also had a prior demi. This result was entirely avoidable. I'm genuinely sad to leave a negative review, but I don't want anyone else to go through the stress, expense, and emotional impact of having their hair turn out this way.
