One lady helped me find a deodorant, I was looking for and the other lady named Mari came and asked me if I still needed help and she helped me for a quite a while. I have been here a lot and have continued to give them chances to redeem themselves as a business. They are rude if they even acknowledge you because you aren't in your twenties, you ask a question they are in a hurry and say they will be back and never to return but this time I walk in stand in line and a clerk comes up abruptly to everybody who's standing in line and tells us you cannot stand down the aisle. It is too dangerous. You have to stand here and she directs us. This was said in a very abrupt, curt and patronizing way. Then I was talking to the clerk at the register who barely spoke. if I could leave a negative star, i would. i have gave this specific Ulta many chances to improve their customer service as this is the closest Ulta to me but at this point, I would much rather drive 1-2 hours to the next Ulta. all the employees are so rude, they all stand and talk amongst themselves, their "help" is so half ass. they all have an attitude. My five stars are not for Ulta, the overpriced beauty store, but for Pedro (maybe Morales) who works wonders in the hair studio. Pedro is an Artist of hair! I have learned over the years that there is a special relationship between a woman and her hairdresser. It took us several tries when we moved to Salinas to find someone who would not only listen to what my wife was asking for, but could transform her thoughts into vision. Pedro has created several different looks for my wife and they all have been beautiful. The latest was a long, layered look that looked great after the styling and only got better as it grew out! They have nurtured a lovely client-hairdresser bond and genuinely like spending the time together that it takes for Pedro to make magic. Absolutely the worst store I've ever shopped in. It's the staff 1000000% they are rude and unprofessional basically extremely unpleasant. I manage a gross profiting company of upwards 3.5 million annually- if My staff was as rude to customers as these ladies are they would've been fired along ago I'm sorry I wish unemployment on nobody however I am a very frequent shopper here I'm a diamond member and the fact that I feel that I have a surveillance team following me around every time I come in is absolutely disgusting the part that makes it worse is they never even ask you if they can help you. No smiles no greeting no anything, and when they have finished ringing up the purchase they slide the purchase to you and say nothing at all. I spend a lot of money with this company and have started to go elsewhere(Ulta's rewards program is more appealing so it was hard) I believe that the complete switch is necessary as of now. I have been in need of hair products from Ulta throughout this covid time. So frustrating the way they are handling this issue. I went to the store because other stores were opening...not them. There was a sign on the door to order online...couldn't just call them even tho they were right there. I had to drive the 10 miles back to my house to place the order. Ugh. Today when I went for curbside, they were less than helpful. One has to call, press 4 and wait for them to come on. I did this numerous times but it just kept hanging up on me. It took a solid 20 minutes waiting for people to answer the phone that were 20 ft away from me. Then, I had to get out of my car to open my trunk. They come out and you have to show them your driver's license pressed against a closed window....cuz like everyone knew I was ordering from Ulta??? The girl came out, checked my ID, and then threw my order in the trunk. Then I had to get out, shut my trunk...ugh. The cashier, Candra, was very helpful to a buyer, giving her advice on face primers, listening to buyers concern and responding with a smile. I understand time is valuable and being that she was the only person ringing, frustration wasn't an option, I found it gratifying as an Ulta customer to see staff practice customer service regardless of line. Every time I've ever even walked into an Ulta store I get greeted by the people at the registers and one of the floor associates would come up and ask if there was any help that I needed. Well this one nothing they barely even talk when you're checking out. But they sure talk to each other. They literally kept walking by and they would walk so fast you couldn't even stop them. I was there to find a new foundation, the least they could do is have their stuff stocked with the sponges to try on foundation and then the remover if they aren't going to help. Took me 40 min from trying on different shades to walking back and forth to different stands getting the stuff I needed. Business location after 12 pm, usually only about 3-4 team members at a time, 1 on the register and the line can move slowly since people are trying to use their coupons. Others are busy stocking or hiding, every time I go in and need help I can never find anyone around, which is funny because they are mostly out of the common shade of makeup. The display and samples are usually out or missing. They never have the sample station stocked with disposables. If you need a quick Ulta run stop by in the morning. The salon is trash, the first time I went was six months ago for a haircut at 9am and I couldn't believe how they all speak to each other in front of clients and so early in the morning ! I understand they're your coworkers and you're all friends and get along but there is a time and place to be discussing your personal business and using foul language and that is not at work in front of your clients. How embarrassing. I noticed some split ends today so I called to see if they had any openings to give me a trim. It was 1:30 and they said they had an opening at 2:30 with Pedro. I saw Pedro last time and he was okay so I scheduled it. He washed and conditioned my hair and began trimming, it was extremely busy, there were stylists everywhere and a client in every chair. They were all talking very loudly, cursing and just being unprofessional. Pedro asked about three stylists if they could help blow dry my hair since I have thick curly hair and I asked for it to be blow dried straight. They all said no passive aggressively telling him they were busy with other things and he was stressing because he already had another client waiting. Francesca helped him and she was blow drying one section of my hair over and over burning my scalp and I could feel my hair being pulled out. She took over completely and Pedro began his next client that had been waiting. No problem. But this girl did not know what she was doing. She broke off my hair above my left ear, my scalp is still wet and my ends are still curly. My hair is somewhat straight but it looks big and frizzy. It was May 5, 2018 and we were not only helped right away but during our visit we were well taken care of by an associate that actually takes pride in her job! She was patient while giving my stepdaughter with special needs a makeover. All other associates, including the manager or supervisor, could care less. I was there on May 22, 2018 and as soon as I pulled into the parking lot my impression was negative. A homeless woman who was clearly high on drugs was hanging out near the front entrance of the store scaring customers. There was another customer that arrived at the same time as I did and she turned to me and said, "That's sad." I said, "That's Salinas". Salinas has one of the highest violent crime rates in the nation. Just last week I was robbed! I used my credit card/ATM bank card as payment at a drive thru near this Ulta and someone at the restaurant copied my card and later used my bank data to withdraw $200 from the bank just a few buildings away from this very Ulta! So that being said, you can understand why the associates they hire locally reflect the community. Don't get me wrong. I really try to be understanding because it seems to be a very busy Ulta and they can't help their location. But despite the circumstances of their high crime location, they should still endeavor to uphold exemplary service. But there I was trying to avoid a clearly troubled woman, only to walk through the front entrance to receive bad service. I was not greeted as soon as I walked through the door. I spent about ten minutes or so just looking for an associate to help me! Finally I ran into the manager or supervisor and I asked for help. With disdain on her face, she reluctantly provided me with the information on where to find the item I was looking for. She didn't even have the courtesy to walk me over. Normally I don't need help finding items, but the shelves here are so untidy and disorderly that it's difficult to find what you are looking for! Some of the product on their shelves even looked like they were kicked around a few times! Possibly even used. For the price of their merchandise you would think that they would take more pride in keeping their shelves clean and orderly but not so. Most of the employees are rude and unhelpful and that is really discouraging. I guess if I urgently need a beauty item, I should just go to the Sephora a few buildings away from here within the Northridge Mall. I suggest you sign up for the Ultamate Rewards Membership and if at all possible, shop online or go to a different Ulta. I took my daughter to Ulta yesterday to get her eyebrows waxed. At 12:45 the place was essentially empty but for a few customers checking out and several employees gathered behind the checkout counter. We milled around the vacant, unattended area where eyebrows are done (in clear view of the staff gathered a few feet away) for several minutes before walking toward the checkout to see if we could get someone to assist us. Just as we made it to the counter a person (don't recall her name) stepped out from behind the counter, clearly unhappy that we had disrupted her conversation with another employee who's back was facing us. We asked if we could do a walk-in eyebrow wax. The person hesitated for a few seconds then began a slow-walk-hesitating excuse that "Uhm... I'm waiting on an appointment to show up... and... uhmmm... then... uhm... I have someone after that...". She did not offer to set a time or offer ANY assistance until we prompted her with the request to make an appointment for later that afternoon. Without a word she sauntered to the eyebrow corral, stepped behind the counter, pulled out notebook, then hesitantly said "uhhhhmmmmmm... I can see you at uhmmmmm... 3:30." We left and drove downtown to do some shopping and run a few other errands before returning to Ulta at 3:15. As before, the place was pretty much empty and the eyebrow corral was vacant. At 3:25 someone came over and asked if we needed help. We told her that we had a 3:30 appointment. "Oh, she knows. She's at lunch but should be back in a few minutes." The same person returned several minutes later to apologetically explain that the person we had our appointment with was "...running late because her last customer kept her late and so she took a late lunch." At 3:40 another person walked by and asked if we needed help. After telling him our story he went to the checkout area and paged someone. At 3:45 we left and will not be returning, ever! I have put up with the snotty, better-than-you treatment we so regularly get from the employees of Ulta. I've been in this Ulta multiple times & if the employees are not discussing their personal life with other employees using foul language, they are looking at you up and down. I have shopped here a couple of times and rarely get asked if I need any assistance. Most of the times the employees are talking to each other and ignoring the customers. The check out lines are always long with one clerk assisting. I saw on the local news that two people shoplifted some $3000.00 of merchandise in the store's own clear bag! Perhaps some good thing will come out of this incidence. Pay attention to your customers..... and perhaps the store will get better yelps. read more

The staff needs to be taught manners and professional etiquette (i.e., rude and not helpful). I would expect this type of behavior if it was late in the day and the store was busy (still unacceptable, but understandable). However, they had just opened the store and there were 3-4 employees and not one single brain cell to be found. One of the employees looked like she had just arrived from a night of partying/drinking and the other employees were equally as lost. I would like to know who interviews and hires the staff, because something needs to change. I will be contacting corporate directly to voice my concerns regarding their employees and the inadequate customer service that's being provided at the Salinas location. -5 stars is my actual rating. read more
