I've been going to Divas for a year and a half now and they are excellent. Carlos, in particular, is amazing! I'd always dreamt of having purple hair and when the time finally came, I searched for the best, and Carlos' name came up. He only exceeded my expectations. From day one he was clear about how cumbersome the process would be, how expensive, and how much maintenance would be needed. Despite all that, I dove in and it was so worth it! Since then, we've taken my hair blonde, and most recently, a copper shade. Every time, I love it and receive incredible compliments. Also, having naturally dark hair, none of these have been quick or easy. When spending 8 hours in the hair salon, Carlos manages to make it fun and interesting throughout. Carlos is amazing! As a first time client I was a little nervous going to someone new but he knew exactly what I was looking for. I came in with a messed up balayage from another salon that left my hair a hot mess with all sorts of colors going on. I've been going to Diva's for a year now, and I have never felt more comfortable with someone touching my feet or taking care of my hair. The owner, Sheila, is gives a great Mani/Pedi, and obviously has a lot of pride in her work, and fun on the job. The last time I got a manicure was for a wedding, and she came in [on a day they are usually closed] to do my nails. The last pedicure I got was some time ago, but simply because I don't have the time to get it done again. The work was flawless and super cute plaid! Yes, Plaid. Purple and Pink Plaid. :oD I get my hair cut, colored, and styled by Crystal. Not only does she know exactly what she is doing all the time, but she is fun, easy-going, and a true expert at what she does. Admittedly, it's easy for her because we maintain almost the same color and style at the same time, but she knows what colors, low/highlights, tones, and funky colors will compliment, as well as the cuts, styles, angles, etc. to give someone based on their length, skin tone, and eye color. I have not had anything done by the newest diva, Angela, but we've hung out outside of Diva's and I know she is a talented and charismatic stylist. They also offer brow shaping and waxing (which I got done for the first time today) and a standing tanning booth. The decor alone is something to love about Diva's. It's tastefully covered in pin-up 50s references (leopard print, stilettos, Betty Paige, etc) and is just fun to look at while waiting for your appointment. I went to see Nichole for a microdermabrasion and neck massage as a birthday present. My concern was hyperpigmentation on my cheek. I heard a lot of recommendation about the microdermabrasion procedure netting immediate results so I was optimistic that mine would get lighter. The room is quaint and peaceful. Prepare to be relaxed and maybe get in a nap. The microdermabrasion felt like a mini sandblast. It wasn't painful or unpleasant. The warm towels over my face and neck felt good and then the jelly mask, which was my favorite, was soothing. Overall, for my first facial, it was a positive and great experience. I still have some hyperpigmentation, but I think with another round it will go away. It was an acne scar that was a little under 2 years old. Nichole is professional and sweet. Every time the hairstylist Crystal either forgets about my appointment, cancels, or asks to reschedule. I like how she cuts my hair however do not appreciate the poor commitment to clients. Obviously they do not care. Unfortunately my experience there changed drastically to poor. read more

Hair salons in Marina are slim pickings... I decided to try this place based on some stellar reviews and made an appointment to get highlights with Jennifer. No problems with booking, and I was really looking forward to getting my hair done before picking up my partner from the airport. I show up to the salon 20 minutes early, am told by another stylist that Jennifer is not in yet, and that she has another client waiting who has an appointment at the same time as mine. Uh, ok... I sit in a chair and wait for this Jennifer to come in and sort things out, only to have her call my cell while I am waiting. She says quite frankly "I'm sorry but I have to reschedule our appointment." Weird, but ok, no problem. As I'm walking out, still on the phone with Jennifer rescheduling our appointment, she proceeds to tell me that she is SICK and can't make it to work. I know full well that she is lying and has another customer in the salon. I mean come on, if you're going to mess up that badly at least be honest about and say "I apologize, I accidentally double-booked" or "my long-time client is having a hair emergency," but do not lie to me. Have some integrity. Needless to say I won't be going back. read more

Sheila made me feel like a DIVA! Was on a much needed vacation for a few days in the Marina, and wanting to treat myself, I Yelped for a nail salon in the area. Diva's star-rating and reviews won me over so I chanced driving over without first calling to see if walk-ins were welcomed. My good fortune was that Sheila, the owner, was just finishing up with a client. And, although she was actually off that day, she sat me right away. (If you're reading this, Sheila, thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a good sport.) I Yelp this because I am an extremely self-conscious individual when it comes to manicures & pedicures. Why? Because I have "dude" hands. I wish I was blessed with delicate lady digits, but such as it goes with a lot of other things I wish I was genetically born with (and without). Over the course of 20 years, I have attempted 7-8 times to have 'pretty hands' by getting tips. None seemed to look naturally nice as the results, I felt, were "dude fingers with fake nails." My outlook has all since changed thanks to Sheila whom recommended and applied Shellac on my pudgy fingers. Sheila has a knack for mixing the limited colors Shellac offers, but I got the basic metallic red polish. Although my nails are short, Sheila filed and shaped them so beautifully. I would NEVER have thought that my hands could be so lovely! (Hmm. I wonder if she can make a miracle happen with my Vienna sausage toes? I'm sure she can.) Come to think of it, having a manicure from Sheila was like a therapy session on self-image. And, for $40 (not including discount she gave me afterward) for making me feel like a diva - so worth it! The only downside is that Sheila isn't up in the SF Bay Area where I'm from. Anyway, much mahalos, Sheila!! You helped make my vacation all that more wonderful! read more

This was round 2 at Divas! I got a hair cut and wax with Miracle Worker, I mean, Jennifer. She is fantastic! The first time I came in, she fixed a hair emergency I had before my friend's wedding. Major improvement to what I had going in! This time, my hair is finally back to normal and not choppy. More importantly, I LOOK LIKE A DIVA. Jennifer also does waxing. I got my lip and brows done. My brows are thin and completely two different shapes. I communicated my concerns and my needs were met. My eyebrows look very close in shape. IT'S A MIRACLE! LOL. Also, I have a Monroe piercing on my lip and she was very careful when waxing. I appreciate that. She is client oriented and pays attention to detail. I am more than satisfied! Carlos is the only stylist I've seen who has consistently managed to make my super fine hair look voluminous. He's done shorter styles on me along with mid length styles and they have all been beautiful. He is always focused on the health of my hair along with giving me the style I asked for. I was not going to post a review about my hair disaster, until I saw what Jennifer Lewis did to the hair of not one but two other friends. Here's my disaster story: I asked for highlights and layers. The highlights are obviously too light and the layers don't blend leaving me with about 5-6" of my dark brown hair showing. Would a real professional really let me walk out looking like this?
