The salon is in a sweet old house near a dance studio, nursery, and fisherman's wharf beach. ***needed to ask for hair spray. My curls unraveled at the beach and we're gone an hour later. I even tried to make small talk and some Asian hair stylist just kept staring at me, like I was weird!! Besides all that Sue is awesome. My fiance heard about Sue from a different location in Monterey (I kept complain because I started mildly breaking out) and Sue educated me about my skin, had me use Dermalogica and my skin is better after 4 weeks! I am so happy! We just moved to Monterey, and I was literally thinking I would have to drive back to Los Altos to see my wonderful hair dresser, Narsis, at Narsis Salon in Los Altos! SHE'S WONDERFUL! But I am not a planner for nails and hair - more like I wake up and think, wow, got to get that gray covered! So driving up to Los Altos isn't really a reasonable option for me! I Yelped salons in Monterey and Artisan's came up. I called and made an appointment with Ruth. She gave me the best highlights, lo lights, ever! I love it! I went back a week later to have Ruth do my makeup and hair for a Christmas party. I loved the blow out and the makeup! Now, I've even sent my daughter there. Ruth is wonderful! I stopped in to get my hair cut here because it happens to be within walking distance, and I was not disappointed. I made an appointment with Brianna and she is absolutely wonderful! When I sat at the chair she asked me what I wanted, offered helpful suggestions when I asked, and was kind and professional. While she cut my hair, we chatted a bit. Best hair experience I've had! Coming from San Diego I was nervous to try a small town stylist. Renee is a dream! 20 yrs of experience (but you wouldn't guess it looking at her.. Kudos to Cathy for coming to my rescue and saving the day! She took me in on a whim while passing thru Monterey on a recent visit. A previous cut from a hairstylist in San Francisco left me looking sub-par. After giving me a once over and pointing out my previous imperfections (from the hair cut of course) she worked her magic and at half price from what she normally would charge. Artisans Salon is a place where you can expect great service, quality products and a great hair style. When I first came to see Renee at Artisans, my hair was in a state of disrepair. Over the last two years, Renee has completely restored my hair and it is healthier than it has ever been. I absolutely love my hair! While I have only had my hair done by Renee and Bree, all of the stylists at Artisans are friendly and professional. Renee is very accommodating and will schedule an appointment around MY availability. The salon has a certain charm about it that will make you feel right at home (not to mention the tea/coffee/pastries that are offered). If you want to look and feel amazing, try Artisans. I came to Artisans with my bridesmaids for my Bridal Hair and MakeUp and everything was wonderful! They made me feel the most beautiful I have ever felt in my life. I had never been there before as I don't live in Monterey. Ever since I contacted them, Renee was very friendly and answered all of my questions. The morning of the wedding, we arrived at their beautiful, sunny, and posh salon. For the VERY fair, great price we paid, and for being first time customers there, we felt treated like VIPs. I want to give a HUGE thank you to Brandy for the greatest makeup I've ever had done. I have bad skin with a lot of little blemishes, including my back, so I was so worried about my skin looking good on my wedding day. They do not offer airbrushing, but Brandy's technique made my skin look truly flawless! She was very bubbly and a pleasure to chit chat with, and she made me look stunning. I would highly recommend her for your makeup needs! Thank you Brandy! Renee did my fancy updo and it was also fantastic. My mistake was that I wasn't very clear in describing what I wanted and didn't want, and it started looking not quiet what I envisioned, so I just took a moment to clarify more what I had in mind, and she was very accommodating and understanding, and in the end it was perfect. The updo was very creative and complex! She clearly has a lot of skill in many different techniques, and I would absolutely go back for any other hair service - too bad I live in the bay area, but I do hope to return to Artisans. Thank you so much Renee! I didn't get to talk much to Nana but she helped do my bridesmaids' hair which all looked great. Thank you Nana. Nana gave me a reasonable quote compared to two other salons. Nana did my hair and Brandy did my makeup. They were both both phenomenal. My hair and makeup was exactly how I wanted it. I brought fiance here this weekend for his first day spa experience. Unfortunately the focus of this establishment is more hair than anything. You can't completely enjoy the massage because the wall is shared with the hallway and the entire time I could hear some woman's God awful cackle. I wanted to open the door and tell her to stfu, seriously. It was a real bummer because both the massage therapist and the esthetician were amazing! My facial was so relaxing (minus the cackling) and the massage was perfect. I can't remember the massage therapist's first name, last name Towne, and Doran did the facial. I was bummed because Fiance didn't get the relaxing you-feel-like- putty-when-done experience. It was more of an annoyance with the stylists when we walked out. If your reading this owner of Artisans, PLEASE PLEASE designate the hallway a 'quiet zone', your spa patrons would be much happier and relaxed people. Final verdict: 5 stars for the services and like 2 for the spa itself = 3 stars. bumma! read more

She was a bit cracked out her mind and had obviously had her fair share of "life experiences" (she is not shy about sharing the most raunchy and risque ones with you). I was visiting from san fran and desparetly needed to get a professional cut after i chopped off half of my hair from bleach damage. Amber did an awesome job getting rid of the remaining damage. She didn't even wash my hair out I had to go home and do it myself because she had another client coming in? Seriously is your next client paying as much as I am? Didnt think so. I've gotten my hair braided and colored by Maigyn. She is exceptionally gentle and sweet and pays attention to detail. My braids stayed in for weeks and my highlights were great. I am VERY tender headed and she was able to give me what I wanted without making my head hurt. I really appreciated her energy and easygoing personality. I felt Well cared for and relaxed. I live out of town and made an appointment to get BRIDAL HAIR AND MAKEUP for my destination wedding at this salon. It was the WORST experience I have ever had!!!!!!! I made an appointment with Michaela from Artisans to do my hair and makeup on location at the hotel I was staying at. Prior to the day of the wedding there were several calls and texts made to her that she never responded to. I finally reached her the day before my wedding and she confirmed she was still coming and asked that I send her the hotel info and room number once checked in. I did everything she asked, but again got no responses. On the day of my wedding she NEVER SHOWED UP. I immediately called the salon and they told me they were not sure where she was, but would try to get a hold of her. I then contacted the owner Renee and left messages as well. 1 & 1/2 HOUR past my 9am appointment the owner Renee contacted me. She said Michaela was not answering her phone and we should start calling around looking for another salon to do my bridal hair and makeup! She recommended Blush and SAID SHE WOULD PAY FOR MY SERVICES due to her stylists incompetence. Unfortunately, Blush had their own bride they were servicing so I was unable to go there and be ready for my wedding on time. In tears on my wedding day and with just a little over an hour to complete my hair and makeup one of my guests offered to do it for me. With little to no time remaining before my wedding I was forced to accept the offer. MULTIPLE calls AND texts were made to the owner to speak to her about the situation and to collect the money she promised to compensate due to her stylist standing me up on my wedding day. Her responses were favorable at first, but then became rude and accusatory of this somehow being my fault or something I had done wrong. Renee was upset that I had not used Blush and REFUSED TO COMPENSATE ME AS SHE HAD PREVIOUSLY OFFERED. She actually stopped responding to me all together. This was not a cut and color that a stylist no showed me on. It was my wedding day. Renee should be embarrassed for the way she has handled this situation. 1. For hiring someone capable of doing this to a bride on her wedding day 2. For making empty promises to compensate for the no show appointment 3. For in the end failing to even communicate with me to resolve the matter. I AM DISGUSTED WITH ARTISANS SALON AND DAY SPA AND FOR THE OWNER RENEE FOR PUTTING ME THROUGH THIS NOT ONLY ON MY WEDDING DAY, BUT ALSO FOR THE WEEKS THEREAFTER. read more

What an amazing salon! I highly reccommend Brianna Clinton for great cut and color. I have long, color-treated hair and she makes my hair look amazing every single time. I have bangs as well and she offers a complimentary trim. I wouldn't trust anyone else but her to cut and color my hair. You will not be disappointed! I reccommend her to as many people as I can. I cannot recommend this place for the waxing services. My services were pretty routine but took over 2 hours. My leg wax had to be redone a few days later--as soon as I was in the sun I noticed long hairs all over the place. The waxer only waxed hair she could see rather than just waxing the entire leg. Since I have light hair, she apparently was not able to see much of the hair. Yet the process was so time consuming. Too much money, too much time, not enough expertise to be doing the type of waxing undertaken. read more
