Unfortunately the haircut I received here was very bad. Cathy cut it haphazardly, not really looking at if the sections were even and barely brushed before she grabbed sections. It was rushed. I also asked for and paid for a DevaCut for my curly hair but it was nothing like the DevaCuts I have had before were there are several steps in the process (she only cut when it was dry when it's supposed to be touched up when wet and did not style it after wetting it, also sent me home with wet hair when it is supposed to be diffused until dry). The hair cut was between $80-$100 (can't remember exactly because I tipped) and it was not worth the price considering it was not a DevaCut. My hair has been splitting all the way up the shaft since this haircut, splitting so bad in ways my hair has never split before. There were also a couple strands that were randomly two inches longer than the rest of my hair in the back?? Again because she wasn't really looking, taking the time to section or check if she was cutting evenly. I do not recommend this place. read more

I had a great experience at Adore. It's a one-woman show, which was a nice experience compared to the sometimes loud and overwhelming salon experience. She is certified by DevaCurl which I didn't realize was a thing. She cut my hair dry, which was a great choice and corrected the crooked cut I had received from my last stylist. I also had a partial highlight done which turned out exactly as I wanted. I showed her pictures of the color that I wanted to achieve and she got it to match. Kathy is so sweet and goes out of her way to make you comfortable. Her studio is not intimidating, soft and cozy, making you comfortable to talk if you want to , but Kathy isn't like others who tries to fill the empty space with chatter. Comfortable silence is fine as well. I got an amazing cut, my long hair was disastrous before, and she turned it incredibly healthy without losing the length. My color I went from red to black/deep purple, and Kathy did an amazing job. Under the sun, you can really see the deep purple in my hair. The whole appointment took only two hours. Kathy doesn't try to sell you any additional product. She has products and accessories out, the majority handmade by her, but she's not pushy about them. Stay away! She is the spaciest most unfocused stylist I have ever met. She does not listen to what you want and does her own thing. I left the salon after a cut and color feeling so awful and ripped off. The color was splotchy and an inch away from my scalp. The cut was not anywhere near what I requested. She had dogs that jump all over your lap even when it's clear you are uncomfortable I will never return to this salon. read more

It's VERY hard to find someone who knows how to cut CURLY HAIR especially my kind of black and white (biracial) curly hair, so I was thrilled and pleased with the results I've had with Cathy. I saw the great reviews here and really needed a trim so I called and scheduled for the next day. The day of the appointment, she texted me two and a half hours prior to my appointment, first saying that her first client cancelled and asking if I could come in right away, then 3 minutes later asking to reschedule then 7 minutes later that she's going home. I replied to her 14 minutes after her first text that I can head over there immediately, but she had already left her office by then to go home (out of town) simply because she didn't want to wait around for me. She did apologize and also said "we are all trying to adjust and get used to this difficult period". I don't see what this difficult period has to do with her cancelling on me last minute only because she didn't want to be idle/bored - it's not like something came up that she had to do. I had arranged my entire day around this appointment between 3 kids and switching cars and working my other plans around it, only for it to be cancelled last minute because the stylist didn't want to "wait around". read more

After my old stylist (who is about 2 hours away!) unexpectedly cancelled on me, I set out on a mission to find a new stylist who was closer than a two hour drive. The studio is really easy to find and has plenty of parking out front. Cathy's studio is cute, clean and welcoming. I showed her a pinterest board of hairstyles for inspiration, told her I was ready for a drastic change, and she immediately understood my aesthetic: big, wild hair. Cathy really understands curly hair and it was interesting to see the Devacut techniques at work (my last stylist was not Deva certified). I have known Cathy since I was about 18 when she was working at a salon on Foam Street in Monterey and I have followed her to every location she has been since then. I have such high-maintenance hair, extremely curly and a bit coarse but also difficult to straighten in the sense that I have to have the right cut or else my hair is just a wreck. Cathy has made me realize how great my hair is, curly or straight and she always delivers. She was so excited the last time I saw her right before New Year's because I finally said to go short and she did such an amazing job that my hair even grew out really well. My go to salon in Monterey! Cathy is an excellent stylist and really knows her curly hair method. I have type 3B curls and trust her completely, she always leaves my hair looking great. She uses the dry method, which is crucial for us curlies. She is detail oriented while staying on track and keeping you on time for the rest of your day. Her salon is adorable and she even sells these gorgeous soaps that she hand makes herself. She's also in a great location, easy to access from anywhere on the peninsula and right off of hwy 1.
