DO NOT LET SONG TOUCH YOUR HAIR. I went in for a color service, I let her know I had bleached it 3 weeks ago and had copper hair and blonde hair. But 3 days ago I put brown on it with red on the inner layer and I asked for a bayalage and to cover the red. She foiled my hair @3:30, and added color to the rest of my hair. She rinsed my hair at 6 and added toner. All my hair was falling off, and she tried to not let me see it. After I saw all my hair on the floor I was shaking and crying. She proceeded to tell me I didn't disclose my hair history. I showed her I had highlights last year, but since then I only bleached it 3 weeks ago. Before even starting I asked for a color remover before bleaching to see what level I was at. Instead she rebleached it. I walked in and as soon as Carmen seen she greeted me with a smile. After the pleasantries, I ask her if she had time to cut my hair and she said, of course. I would like to share my recent visit at JCPenney Hair Salon in Salinas. I asked Monica Murillo for highlights, but unfortunately the results were not what I requested or expected. The color turned out orange and yellow, and the highlights were patchy and uneven. My family and friends immediately noticed how off it looked, and I was very embarrassed by the result. Because I was so dissatisfied, I had to go to another salon to have the color corrected, which cost me additional time and money. I also discovered while checking my receipt at home that I was double charged for my haircut. Haircut is $35, so I was charged $70. And that's billing fraud! The service did not meet professional standards and the dishonest charge of an incorrect amount. I paid the total amount of $275 for partial highlights and haircut. I tried to discuss a resolution with the store manager, Tarcisio Paredes, but to no avail. He was rude, unhelpful, and had a condescending tone. He was upset at me that I went to another salon to get my hair color corrected. He insisted that I should have gone to them instead and won't issue me a refund. read more

Been to this location a few times, with different stylist and always love my hair, but this last time an older lady named Carmen ruined my color. She didn't have a clue what she was doing and was super messy my hair now is a total disaster. Her attempt for highlights left me patchy and brassy. I am not a person that likes to add reviews but, sometimes my review can be seen by others & I might save someone's hair and prevent it from getting damaged. If you look at the picture I asked for that but I ended up with ugly ashy highlights done by Carmen. I'm very upset, she kept telling me to keep my natural hair and she can do the highlights "it'll look good" . When I saw I wanted to cry... first and last time I let someone touch my hair. I prefer an honest stylist, if you don't know how to do it be honest from the gecko & don't damage someone else's hair. She's also really rough when she washes your hair. Recently came down there Adrian "tried" to give me a hair cut and he completely disregarded what I told him in the first place. I told him I wanted a taper and he ended up cutting my hair way above where it was supposed to be. When I called him out he got upset even though it was him the one not capable of cutting hair the way people ask him too. Right off the bat he was shaking and he was nervous and he never for once asked me how it was turning out or if the length was right. When I told him that it was too high for my liking he started saying that the way I wanted it was a barber style not a salon style which is just totally absurd. If he wasn't sure or wasn't confident to do my hair then he should've passed me on to the next stylist. If I could leave a 1/4 star I would. Stay away from this place. My daughter went in to trim off her dead ends, should've been no more than 2" off her hair. The lady there Aurora cut 4" of my daughter's hair and gave her layers while having her turned away from the mirror. My daughter went in with mid back length hair and came out with shoulder length. When I asked why she did that she said my daughter hair was damaged and fell off! Very unprofessional and was only worried about getting out of there on time since she was texting most of the time. I booked an appointment online for a haircut/blow dry. I chose a senior stylist so the price was a little higher @ $55. From the moment I arrived I felt very rushed. I tried to explain what I wanted but I felt like she wasn't listening to me. Towards the end of the styling she mentioned it would be $15 more because I had long hair. There was nothing online that suggested an extra charge. I felt like I was pressured into paying more and came out with a mediocre $70 haircut. I should've read the reviews. Total scam!! read more

I want to start by saying that Nicole and Jennifer are amazing!! 5 stars for them! The 1 star is for EDGAR. I made an appointment for my 18 month old son. I made it very clear while making the appointment that he was a baby and would need someone with patience. The appointment was made with Edgar. I have went to Nicole in the past and had a wonderful experience but unfortunately she wasn't there. First off Edgar was about 10 mins late. When he arrived he already seemed annoyed that he would be cutting my sons hair. He said "who scheduled you with me?" Very rudely. I asked if he could do the cut in the fire truck ( which is the whole reason I came from Marina). He said "no I don't know how to cut in those. What? He can't sit up alone?". He then had my son sit in a regular salon chair with a booster. I thought ok fine let's just get this over with. Then he asks "does he cry?". I said well yeah he's a baby.... he immediately walked away and got the manager. He then told the manager that he couldn't do the cut because my son was crying. At that point my son wasn't crying. I had to defend myself and say ummm no my son wasn't crying. By this point I was so upset by his unprofessionalism I just said forget it please get someone else. ALL HE HAD TO SAY WAS THAT HE WASNT COMFORTABLE CUTTING A TODDLERS HAIR. instead of doing that he was extremely rude and made things worse. By the time we got a new stylist (jennifer) my son was freaked out and scared. She was so patient and really did try her best but the whole negative experience I had with Edgar was enough for both of us and we left. Advice to Edgar: maybe take a class on customer service, and get some experience with all types of clients, ya know since you work in a family salon. read more

After getting a cut at an unnamed salon on Lighthouse in Monterey, I was a little traumatized. Cora Snow was recommended to me by someone who has both a nice cut and color. I was going for color (though I needed a cut after the uneven hack job) but Cora explained to me that I needed to grow out my previously dyed hair. My faith in stylists was at an all time low. I wanted the color, but I needed the cut. I nervously agreed to the cut. My faith has been restored. My haircut is perfect. Exactly what I asked for and my long, layered hair moves wonderfully. As an fyi, this is a surprisingly nice salon; great decor, spacious and well designed. Not your typical Mall salon though boutique salons can be deceiving. If I could, I would give them zero stars. The lady that did my hair burned it. She did not know what she was doing at all. I had a balayage in my hair and she would leave the color on my hair for only 5-10 minutes. I wanted my hair to be darker and she would only leave the color on that long to cover up my blonde? She dyed my hair 3-4 times because she wouldn't let the color set. Until a lady named Cora stepped in to school her. I can't believe they have such unprofessional people there. I was looking for a place to get some highlights and get rid of my dark burgundy hair. I wanted to go significantly lighter and knew it would be a challenge for a novice colorist. After looking around I decided to give this salon a chance. I called and asked they schedule me with an experienced colorist (no joke!). They assured me I would not be disappointed with Gaby given that she has over 20 years of experience. I went into my appointed and Gaby took the time to explain what would work and what wouldn't and I appreciate her giving it to me straight. I left the salon with some great highlights and a much lighter hair color. I've gotten a significant amount of compliments. I've been back for my touch up and I'm still a happy customer :) I recommend! read more

Update: I have been a regular customer for well over a year now. I ADORE my stylist (Jennifer) who is always willing to try new styles with my hair when I get bored and in the mood for something different and I have NEVER loved my color as much as I do when she colors my hair! Hey are finally in the new Penny's location instead of the small temporary salon! I love the look of the new salon - it's very chic and clean. It may be a little pricy but it is so so worth it! Original review: I was a walk-in this morning (on a holiday no less) on a whim. I was looking for something different and fun with my hair after a long time of wearing it the same way! I was helped right away and my stylist (Edgar) was great about listening to what I was looking for and then helping me pick a style. Wanted to get a trim and color but she didn't seem like she knew how to color because she pulled out a handbook of some sort and the price seened way overpriced. So I just ended up with a trim, but she first did a dry cut washed and conditioned then started to brush and dry my hair then began cutting again. So I ended up getting my hair cut shorter than I initially wanted. Won't be going back. Sorry not sorry. read more

My review is for Cora. She is absolutely amazing! I've been going to her for at least a year after desperately looking for a new stylist who would listen to what I wanted, but also knew my hair well enough to guide me in the right direction. Cora has colored my hair, layered & thinned it, & just recently touched up my low-key highlights while adding in some more. I guess you could call it balayage although it's very subtle. I was worried about damage from the bleach, but Cora knows what she's doing! My hair is still as healthy as ever & she recommended a blue shampoo to prevent brassiness (which can happen over time) without being pushy. I obviously bought it lol.
