Jilla (the proprietress) gives an excellent $25 haircut - either for men or for women. This is not a salon experience, no shampoo, fancy products and an extended "consultation." You make an appointment, come in promptly with clean hair and an idea of what you want. Jilla is an older middle Eastern woman, no nonsense, with decades of experience. If you want a super basic buzz cut, that's what you will get. If you want a more layered sophisticated style you can get that too. I have been going to her for at least a year after getting mediocre $75-125 cuts at various high end salons in Monterey and Carmel. I give her a big tip because her service is worth it! read more

I'm not a salon kind of girl (the chit chat and hair dying) but I do enjoy being pampered a smidge. I don't know if it's a Covid restriction or if they are just trying to get people in and out, but they did a dry cut on me. My first ever. I have long hair and hadn't had a cut in forever. The stylist checked out the photos I brought of what I wanted and she gave me exactly that. And like I said, I was in and out in about 15/20 minutes. By far the worst hair cut I have ever gotten... I walked in, and first thing I saw was the lady doing a man's hair, and she put the dirty razor back in the "clean" box. Then, she sat me down and I came in with my hair curled due to an event. She didn't wash my hair and barely wet it with the spray bottle. My hair is curly so when it's wet it is uneven and frizzy. I asked for face framing from the CHIN down and my bangs were all the way above my eyes. My hair came out uneven and choppy. Worst experience yet, don't go here if you have long hair!!!!! read more

I went to visit this fine establishment on the advice of a friend. What with Covid there is just no way to know if salons are open and taking customers. Jila got me in right away, the same day I called which was a beautiful thing as I'm the type of person when I finally decide I need my hair cut, it's Now! I am not a fan of waiting once it gets to that point. Again due to the lockdown I have not been getting my hair cut with any regularity so it is longer than I believe it has ever been. When I arrived I was greeted warmly, and was asked about my friend who recommended I come which I really appreciated. We discussed how word of mouth is the best form of advertising, next to Yelp, I might add here. Jila asked me about my hair, and she took the time to look at it and ask me about how I like it to be. I told her that I like it to be easy, and I prefer it to be layered. Then she said something that really set her apart from everyone else- Jila said "I like to cut my customers hair a few times and get to know their hair, and become friendly with it." I thought that was just stunning, and at that point I was definitely looking forward to seeing what she could do not only today, but in the future as well. Great haircut, and wonderful conversation. Seeing good reviews , I risked coming there to cut my bangs. I dont know if it was a janitor who was cutting my hair because she was the only one there ,but it was an Asian lady who did not know how to hold scissors. Wow!! I needed a haircut really quickly - and the state of my hair was pretty trashed. It was extremely long, hadn't been cut in almost four years, and the bottom 5-6 inches were split ends. I called this morning to see if Jila could squeeze me in today, and she said she could in the afternoon. I arrived on time, right when she was just finishing up with another client. A few minutes later, I sat in the chair, told her what I wanted, and I swear she used some kind of magic on me to where after fifteen minutes of chatting my confidence level went through the roof because my cut was INCREDIBLE. Having read the reviews I decided to try Best Cuts and I am now a huge fan! I am visiting from out of town and the haircut Jila gave me was so great that when I get back home, I intend to march myself in to my regular salon and say "Do this!!" Encouraged by the awesome reviews I made an appointment with Jila for a quick trim - no wash or blow dry needed. No layers - I have a boringly simple one length with bangs for my long fine, thin slightly wavy hair. Appointment times are approximate. The place is busy, friendly and social with a lot of loyal customers. I was encouraged by that so didn't mind the wait. I asked for the trim to take off the dead ends. Jila seemed highly distracted - didn't specify how much she considered dead, pulled all my hair back, twisted it once and hacked off about 4 inches. I gulped - what was done was done - but I hoped she knew what she was doing. My bangs are bizarrely hacked as well. Some bits are way shorter than the others and it's not like they should be layered - not enough there to layer. Overall I cannot make my hair look reasonable. It used to be a quick bang style with round brush and hairdryer, scrunch and dry the rest naturally. Not any more and I'm at a loss with what to do with my too-short, a-line do with odd uncontrollable bangs. $20 isn't much - but too much given the speed at which my hair was wrecked. Jerry the owner and barber did an excellent job cutting my hair. I did not have to tell him much and he made it look great. In addition to a great haircut Jerry was a great person to chat with while getting a haircut. Jerry did all the small things that are nice like shaving cream on your neck with the straight razor. Samran (Sam) cut my straggly long hair into a neat asymmetrical bob. She was quick, efficient, and understood what I was asking for. When I decided that it wasn't quite short enough in the back she agreed and redid the back. If you're looking for a swanky salon - this place isn't for you. I was ready for a really big change -- from long hair to very short -- and Jila delivered. I showed her a few pictures from Pinterest and she asked a few questions to make sure we were on the same page. Jila, Mina, and Alyssa work here at what looks like a humble salon, but they're very talented. Jila and Mina are sisters. Jila is the cutting queen while Mina specializes in color (they're totally cool with you going to both of them). Alyssa is younger and has recently returned from maternity leave. They have good rapport -- none of the drama that many salons do. What's more, you can't beat their prices. They gave me an even better deal as a first time customer. And I was assured if I have any heartburn about the cut and want any changes in the next week, to call and and come back in and Jila won't take it personally. I don't think I'll need to do that, but it's nice that they're so easy-going and personable. Also, they don't oversell product. There's stuff available, but they don't try to shove it down your throat, which I appreciate. Note: they accept credit/debit cards but there is no room for tip on the receipt so bring cash for that (or maybe ask if you can add it to the total). This salon, experience and the ladies here were AWESOME!!! I called on a Tuesday morning and was able to get an appointment for a blow-dry later that afternoon. I don't usually make appointments on short notice because my hair is super curly and I know that it can be challenging, but I wanted to look my best for an interview that was the next day. Mina and Jila did not let me down. In under 2hours, my super curly hair was bone straight and "trimmed a little" and all for a GREAT price. They both commented on how the person who had previously cut my hair had butchered it and there was only so much they could do to fix it but, I am was SOOO happy with the fix that they came up with to help me look my best.
