First, writing this for my husband. Let me say first, great store and staff. The hair salon stylist are so friendly and skilled. We find the store and managers so friendly. The issue is twice now on a Saturday, my husband who likes to relax and enjoy his haircut had a customer across from him talk on speaker phone his whole appointment. There needs to be a policy in place for this behavior. Getting your hair done should be a relaxing experience, not cause stress. He will now check with his stylist to be sure that person is not on his schedule and if they are, he will reschedule. Again, we love store and stylist, just not that customers phone behavior. read more

Parking is a little tight outside of this store on the weekends. My friend and I walked in and there were maybe three ladies working the counter. We walked throughout the store a few times for at least 20 mins without ever being asked for assistance. One bonus about this store is that they have a wide selection of beauty products and the physical space to walk around. The make up testers looked really dirty. Their stock was low in certain items. My friend wanted a lotion, but didn't see it in a box...only the tester. She took the information down to purchase it online. While my friend was waiting in line, I found a cell phone lying on a stand with no one around it. I took it to the front counter and let them know I found a cell phone. The lady I handed it to looked at me as if I was crazy. She didn't make any attempt to find the owner as there were several people in the store. I thought maybe she would ask patrons. I asked a couple of people that walked near me. Hopefully someone will claim it. She just tossed it on the back counter. The beeping...there was an incessant beep near the perfume. No one in the staff would turn it off. At one point, two items started beeping. A guy and I both looked at each other when the second set of beeps started. Yep, time to leave. On the way out a staff member asked if I needed help. Actually Yes! I flagged my friend down to get assistance for her lotion, but to no avail...they didn't have it in stock. When it was my friend's turn to check out, the lady screamed next and said little to nothing after. My friend said the exchange was cold. I never walk into this location expecting a quick and smooth visit-- you will be in the checkout line for a good 15 minutes on a non busy day. No sense of urgency whatsoever, it is frustrating. They have now locked up every fragrance they have to offer including testers. I left and drove to Sephora on the other half of the friendly center. I do not appreciate having an associate right by my side to smell ... fragrances. If theft is an issue, don't sell it. Another thing I have noticed is when product isn't stocked on the floor, they will tell you they're out-- if you turn around and place an online order for pickup, they 'magically' have the product in stock. read more

Friendly Center Ulta. Paid $115 to walk out of the salon with my hair looking like this. Booked a trim and deep conditioning service. While sitting in the side chairs the "elite" stylist was going back and forth with me about what she could do with my hair because she couldn't be late for her next hair appt because that client had an appt that she couldn't be late for. This conversation was over another client getting her hair done and stylist which was kind of embarrassing. She told me she had to add on a detangling fee before she even touched my hair. I have fine hair of medium density. It didn't need "detangling." Took only 5 minutes to comb down from my ponytail. I assume she thought it would take longer because she saw a black women with her curly hair in a top pony. Mind you, she "detangled" it dry. Won't go more into that. IFYKYK! The wash and condition was of average service. She cut off more than I anticipated, approx 4-5 inches, but I'm not exactly that upset about that. For sure, I knew I needed about 3 inches cut from the longest parts. Just concerned she didn't show me what she thought needed to be cut to make sure I was ok with it. While walking out, I saw she added on a blow dry fee. This is crazy while I'm walking out with my hair looking like this. She only used the comb attachment which is why it's not sleek. I was surprised because I assumed most salons will use the brush blow dry technique. I didn't challenge anything she was doing because she was so concerned about not being late for her next client. I wasn't necessarily looking for a style but at least for $115, I would expect a sleek blow dry to walk out with. Total time there was 1 hr 18 min. When I got home, I had to put a little oil on my hair and use my Revlon brush blow dryer to sleek it out a little so I didn't look like I put my finger in an electrical socket. I have been stymied for some time over which colors work best for my fair skin. When I arrived, Mikayla asked me what I was looking to accomplish during the appointment. She listened to me and asked relevant questions. After a short time where she found various red lip options, we got started. By the time the appointment ended, I had 3 new colors, and I understood which skin tone I have and what type of colors I should wear in the future. Night and day difference when there is someone who knows how to treat a customer and Quantina the sales manager at the Greensboro location! Let me start by saying I have been to ulta off wendover ave. in Greensboro NC many times! I was just there for in my birthday and bought the new Khloe perfume for myself with an $10 off coupon and everyone was so helpful and nice. Tonight was a totally different experience! My friend bought me the exact same perfume I got myself so she gave me the receipt so that I could return it and get the money back to buy something else. When I got up to the counter the associate asked me to put in my phone number. I did and then explained the situation. the sales manager Quantina butted into the conversation and said with an attitude no you can get merchandise credit or it goes back on your friends card. I asked if if it could go on my card she still said no. I said ok then let me return it with the receipt from where I bought it. And yes I gave you an attitude just like you gave me. She said she can't do that and offered merchandise credit again. I told her I don't want that much in merchandise credit. Then I proceeded to explain how she can give me the credit on the card I used to pay for the item But it would be $10 less than what my friend paid. She agreed and when it came up for a return it tried to give me merchandise credit since I used Apple Pay. She was then able to return what I paid to my debit card by overriding what the system was telling her. When I said well looks like you could have given me the full amount my friend paid on my card but you decided not to. Obviously it's manager discretion on how a refund is given. Because I was honest I lost out on $10. The manager validated what I said by her explanation. The associate jumped in and said they were being honest too. I used profanity and pushed the bag back towards them and the manager condescendingly replied God Bless you. I left angry and while my daughters were in there the manager began to talk about me to all of the customers in the store. Trying to play the victim when her attitude and unwillingness to properly help a customer caused this reaction. Quantina needs management training! She should introduce herself when butting in to a customer interaction and be professiona! She shouldn't start an interaction with a customer by saying no with an attitude! This whole interaction could have gone so differently if only Quanita knew how to treat a customer! I wouldn't have even left this review if she had remained professional and not bad mouthed me, an honest customer in front of her employees and other customers! I've been to this location a couple times and my experiences have, pretty much, been the same. The fragrance and hair care areas were a disaster. It looked as if it was running a holiday sale. Products all over the place. Packaging open with either products missing or used. The floor staff wasn't welcoming. A couple looked dead at me and walked away. One was on her phone having a heated convo. When one offered help, she sounds as if she was extremely annoyed, so I told her I was fine, even though I actually needed assistance. I sought out another associate and she did help a bit. I was looking for a specific perfume to sample, and although there was a display, no tester was available. We did talk about the fragrance in comparison to others with similar scents. As I've stated earlier, the area was a wreck, but after some (literally) digging around, I was able to find a travel sized version of the product I was seeking. I wandered through the hair products a bit, and the chaos steered me to the checkout. This last trip was my roughest, but overall it equated to basic shopping experience. read more

She was extremely friendly and smiling and even walked back to show me what would be best for what I was needing, she took the time and seemed to truly care that I was satisfied. We had a 2pm appointment for makeup and a flatiron appointment. We did get a call stating that the stylist was running 20 minutes behind. We arrived a few minutes past two being we got the call. They didn't sit my daughter down till 256pm. No updates while there (and we had checked in was sitting where she k ew where we were) Once my daughter had been sat and asked about what she wanted a drop of make up didn't touch her face till 329p. The stylist would get ONE MAKE UP ITEM AT A TIME it appeared from the store front. Nothing was at the station that showed any pre preparation. They finished her make up and didn't start hair till 427p we didn't walk out of there till 455p. They did do great on her makeup and hair she looked amazing but there was no sense of urgency, no sign of being prepared. The stylist did thank us for our patience. The person who checked me out snapped at me when attempting to check out, in my angst to rush out I didn't see the line (I honestly thought the people who were ahead of me were shopping still) My daughter sadly was an hour late than we planned leaving for prom(we went home put on dress/shoes and ran for pictures) and was late for dinner and arrived an hour late for prom. At the end of the day they did make my daughter look amazing but there was just no respect for our time and the cashier's attitude stunk. read more

They are SO much better than the Sephora located on Friendly. I came in here one day after having the worst experience at Sephora. The employees (I forgot their official names) were so helpful and answered all of my questions. I bought a whole line of skincare of Philosophy and Clinique and the lady even wrote me a step-by-step guide on how to use it. I wear makeup a lot whether it's all powder, light coverage, or full beat, and this Ulta will get you everything you need from lower prices to high end. It's genius to have the drugstore and lower end makeup at the same place because some of the drugstore makeup are better anyways (i.e., mascara, eyeliners, lip liners, lipglosses, and synthetic brushes). read more

I am a Navy war veteran who was never really into beauty products and skin care. I have recently changed that, and really began to expand my knowledge and products I use at home. I frequent Ulta about 10 times a year (I mostly shop online and in other locations for more natural products). In that time it has been hit or miss, but I never leave feeling fully satisfied, navigating the skin care and beauty products available can be a little overwhelming and it would be nice to have a more consistent customer service presence on the floor. I do occasionally run into a knowledgeable team member on the floor who is very helpful. All that being said two of the worst customer experiences I've had have happened at Ulta. Both times I waited at the register for up to five minutes while the associate was busy doing something else. I understand that sometimes attention might be needed elsewhere, but that doesn't mean ignoring the customer completely for 3+ minutes. I waited, because I understand, I set a timer on my watch and at 4m30s I asked the cashier if I could go ahead and check out as I needed to go somewhere else. Immediately two others associates behind the check out station chimed in "she's on the phone". I asked if it was policy to attend to customers on the phone over those in line (a line had formed behind me at this point), she said yes it's our policy to take phone calls first. This is not typically how businesses operate. At this point, I am done shopping at Ulta, I do prefer a face to face shopping experience, but I can research at home and order directly from beauty companies. It is just too overwhelming shopping in Ulta and I don't feel valued. Why give them any more of my money? read more

Oh boy are we in for a long story! I went in recently and was constantly followed around. Service is a complete hit or miss. The brow specialist can either be a great person to chat with or just try to upsell you items while doing a service, I get it but still. So anyways in May I went in after work, yes I looked like a complete mess but I wanted to shop around. The entire time I was shopping a short chubby woman. After I repeatedly mentioned I was just browsing, she still followed me. As I swatched the Naked palettes (after three times saying I'm just looking) she told me they wouldn't match my skin tone as I may be a little too dark for them (for reference my skin is a 1y7/ beige/ NC20. So that comment was totally out of line. I get it, I did look disheveled however I didn't see anyone else be constantly harassed/followed/customer serviced to death by this woman. This isn't customer service, it's plain harassment and doesn't make you want to spend any of your money there. Ladies, you want good or better service? Just go to Sephora, at least you won't feel singled out or followed by someone after you've told them you're just browsing. read more

The person at the brow brush table with whom I had an appointment, walked up, begin to do something behind the counter and didn't say anything to me at all. When my friend said that I had an appointment and asked if she was the person her comment was something along the lines of "yes, I could be considered the person who could provide that service" in an extremely dismissive. when she was ready for me to sit in the chair, my friend sat diagonal. I had asked her to come and give me a second opinion. The Ulta staff person said that she could not sit there, because there were people shopping, and that would completely obscure my friend's view of me. When I said that I did not want that, that I wanted her to be able to see me this same person said that she had been doing this for "over 20 years" and that she was the "best person in the country" to work on my brows. I did not comment on her ridiculous assertion that she was the best in the country. I did not comment on, what was to me, doubtful, regarding her years of experience, instead I again indicated that I wished for my friend to be able to see what was going on so she could give me a second opinion. This staff person walked away, came back with the person who represented herself to be your manager, and again said that my friend had to sit in an area Where she could not see me. Assign from the fact that the store was not crowded, had anyone come up to the counter-and no one had were the 10 or 15 minutes and we had been waiting - my friend could actually have moved and then come back to see what was happening. clearly the store manager was more interested in supporting a rude staff person, then accommodating a paying customer. I will not go back to Ulta again. It would be wonderful if both your staff person and your store manager had been trained in the ethics of providing quality customer service with respect and concern. read more

I made an appointment to have my makeup done for a wedding over a week prior to the event date. When I arrived, my makeup artist was not ready yet. I was told repeatedly that she would be with me soon, but I had to wait an hour and 15 minutes past my scheduled appointment time before I was attended to. If staff had been honest, I would have gone home and applied my makeup myself. My makeup artist was very nice, but she was behind on her appointments and did a poor job with listening to my concerns. For example, I wanted a natural brow fill in, and she filled mine in very heavily. As a result of poor scheduling, I was almost late for the wedding I was attending. The sales clerk offered no discount or apology when I mentioned how late my appointment had started. I will not be a returning customer. read more

Any girl who has bought nail polish- tries it on their nails to see if the color looks right on them. I've always been doing this in every store I go to buy nail polish from but I only found out last visit you're not supposed to at Ulta. The lady gave me the most sour face and talked down to me and watched me until I left the isle. I figured ok- for just this once I'll go along with this rule. I bought the nail polish- left the store-tried it on and ended up hating the color. So I went back to the store to return it and the lady at the register didnt care to listen to my complaint and had the nerve to tell me my last order was 4 months ago. Good thing I still had the receipt. Never shopping there again. Ulta- please change this policy about not being able to try on nail polish. Thats the only thing that sells me on the product. Or have sample nails displaying the polish to put ur finger under. Something we can work with. smh read more

I do not usually review businesses but I had to review my salon experience here. I came in with my mother for hair and makeup hoping to get glam for my bridal shower. My makeup artist was very nice but not very good at makeup. What I got what was no where near what I wanted. He could not do wing liner, apply lashes, proper eyeshadow or contour. I was beyond shocked. When it came to hair, all I wanted was a simple braid and big curls. He couldn't even do that. In fact he knotted my hair and thats when I told him to stop. I was beyond angry. Another stylist stepped in and finished my hair but my makeup was horrible. With Only 1 hour till my event I had to rush home, wipe off all my makeup and do it myself. Trust me. On multiple occasions I've come to this store and experienced the same terrible service. I am disgusted at the fact that on my last two visits where I had an appointment I was either ignored for an extended period of time  or not helped at all. On September 23, 2021, I entered the store for my brow appointment. I went to the salon area where an older Caucasian woman with colorful hair was standing. She continued to either clean up or straighten up behind the partition and about 10 minutes later she walked over and asked how could she help me. I explained I was there for a brow appt. She offered me a seat to wait. After a total of 30 minutes of waiting and standing, I was finally seen by Faith. On 10/21/2021, I had another brow appointment. As I approached the salon area the same colorful haired Caucasian woman left the wrap desk and proceeded to go and talk to someone in the shampoo area. Again, she saw me standing there and didn't offer any help. After about 6 mins of waiting a sales associate finally comes over to ask what I needed and I explained to her that I'm there for a brow appt. She informs me that although my appointment was confirmed that she hadn't seen the brow girl all day. I live 20 minutes from Ulta. Nothing is acceptable in having customers patronize a store where you can not get a simple hello from someone who isn't assisting anyone.  Nothing is acceptable about having customers drive to your store of rude associates for confirmed appointments just to leave without the service they booked. Ulta, I am thoroughly disgusted with the way you run your business. read more

This afternoon I made a trip to Ulta to buy myself a couple of new fragrances. I made my way over to the perfume section and a store associates came over to ask if I needed help finding anything in particular. I responded "No, I'm just looking around at the moment." She told me to let her know if I needed help with anything, which seemed normal to me. I do appreciate good customer service and attentive staff. So I continue to look around and smell different fragrances and the same associate comes back. She asks "Would you like a hand basket?" as she's handing me the basket. Great! So I continue to browse and I chose a Chanel perfume that I've been wanting and placed it in my hand basket. I move on to smell other perfumes and once again, the same associate comes over and say "That's a really good one", referring to the perfume that I was smelling (not the one in my hand basket). I replied to her "I actually really love this Chanel perfume!" as I showed her the perfume I had put in my hand basket. She reaches out and says "Here let me put that behind the counter for you to hold it" and asks my name to put it at the register. Now this would have made a lot of sense if I had a bunch of items in my hands and was struggling, but that simply was not the case. I also had an empty hand basket. What exactly was the point in giving me a hand basket if she was just going to take the items, that I intended to buy, away from me and "hold them" behind the counter? I've run through this scenario many times in my head since I've gotten home and it just simply does not make sense! She was going on about how sometimes the alarm goes off and it can be really annoying, whatever excuse she was giving for taking the perfume away to hold. The only time I've know the alarm to go off, is when someone is stealing. After having time to think about this situation, I regret spending my money at this establishment. I also feel that her constantly pestering me was not genuine at all! With the climate we are in, this behavior is just completely unacceptable! I will no longer shop at a store where their associates feel that it is okay to profile certain customers. If associates are concerned about "the alarm going off", management needs to look into hiring security. read more

The assistant manager with the short spiky hair is a real nut case. I told her exactly what I wanted, products I've been using for years. She was talking with me, and suddenly walked towards the cashier stand. A bit later, she was back and selecting products that I did not want (brands I had tried previously), and brands that were way out of my price range, as they weren't on sale. And, she did not want to give me a rain check for the out of stock items. She said they'd be in by Monday (and this was Saturday night), so I did not need one. But, in January, a similar situation happened and they sold out within a few hours, so I missed out then, and didn't realize they did rain checks. I don't know if it's because I had just come from the gym and didn't look 100%, but every time I go to the store, whether dressed to the nines, or in gym clothes, I feel like the staff always look down on me. If you aren't in the 16-25 range, and you don't look like a model, you might as well pretend you're invisible, as the staff sure does! I'd love to see real women in there, ones that don't smell like cigarettes, and don't wear pancake make-up. Then, be nice to your customers, no matter what they look like, as their money spends the same as the bulimic model three rows behind me. Sexy men also get the attention of several sales associates swooning over him. Such unequal treatment needs a corrective balance. But, that's what I'd do if I ran the store. Obviously Ulta has a different mission statement. Wait for that ugly duckling to blossom into a beautiful swan. read more

Just go to Sephora or Target They never have popular NYX products in stock. Don't fall for the "it will be in tomorrow" line. Just order online. Customer service....never spoke to anyone unless I was checking out. Premium make up selection is ok. Again just go to Sephora for your Urban Decay, Bare Minerals, etc. they will have it on stock and are super helpful. Yes Ulta has a lot of lower end cosmetics, just go to Target for those. Clearance section isn't that great either. Just...no. Never again. read more

I recently had a color and cut done at this salon. I asked that the color match the existing color of my hair and cover the gray. The color turned out to be a completely different color than I asked for and agreed to. The cut was not a disaster which is why I gave them 2 stars. read more

I tried their salon service and received one of the worse haircuts I have ever got in my life. I showed a picture of what I wanted and it wasn't even close. I showed my friend today and she about laughed her head off. I walked out with Lurch (from Addams Family) bangs and the rest sticking straight up. I went out to the parking lot and took a bottle water and drenched my hair because I had to do shopping. Never again. A friend was thinking of going and I said better to just do your own. read more
