Very unlike most Sephoras, where the staff acts so put out to assist and who refuse samples even when dropping over 300$... Waikiki Sephora location, I'm talking very specifically about you... this Ulta is truly a pleasure to peruse and sample the swatches and the lines move quickly when ready to purchase. Store is clean and well stocked. I'm finding myself becoming an Ulta shopper and actually lost my rouge status for the first time since like? 2018? - all due to liking the service and staff so much better at Ulta locations across my travels and here at home in nor cal/Bay Area spots. read more

Katalin was our cashier yesterday. We spent a lot of money here yesterday and I asked for my birthday gift. Katalin said I couldn't have it since it was now the 6th of August and I was born at the end of July. I explained to her I broke my toe so I wasn't able to make it into the store on my birthday. She replied "You had all month." You are right Katalin, I should have planned my broken toe better. First of all, I shouldn't have had it broken the month that I was born and Second I should have foretold that it was gonna be broken ahead of time so I would have been able to plan on going in to the store sooner. I literally couldn't drive or walk and we live over 30mins away. Wow Katalin is very rude and acted like she had some kind of authority over these little make-up samples, which are really for advertising so that if people like them people will buy more from your store. Last year I came on my birthday and they told me that they ran out of all the samples and I needed to come back the following Monday even though it was Monday. Feels like the employee really just may want to keep the sample to themselves lol Can't win with you Ulta. What happened to good customer service skills. Don't go in this store within 20 minutes of closing. They don't want you there! Really unwelcoming vibe. Upon entry I was abruptly greeted and told they are closing in 20 minutes. I didn't plan on being there more than a few minutes so that was rude but fine. Went directly to the hair products to grab hair gel. Within minutes they were announcing over the intercom that they would be closing in 15 minutes. 2 minutes later again announcing it over the intercom with a prompting to immediately bring your purchase to the register. Then an employee went through the store asking everyone if they were finding things ok. Not in a nice way or actually trying to help but more as an aggressive reminder that they were closing soon! Music off. Message received. At this point I was extremely frustrated by the unwelcoming tone of the store so I left and will never be back. They definitely need to reevaluate their customer service practices. read more

Stopped by Ulta to pick up my regular makeup items ABH Brow Dip & Clinique Moisture Surge etc etc... while shopping 3 beauty associates asked if I needed help (awesome). I declined assistance until I began shopping for moisturizers. Alexis provided wonderful customer service and made excellent suggestions based on my skin type, which clinique products previously worked for me, and helped me find an ethically sourced product that was not on any boycott lists! I ultimately ended up purchasing a brand new product in addition to my usual set. I was impressed by her suggestions and anecdotal advice. Really turned off by my experience here. They asked if I had a phone number and I said I didn't and wasn't interested right now. The cashier then asked me if I had a friend's phone number so they could get the points...I said no I didn't. She and another woman who worked there said I wouldn't be able to return my shampoo if I didn't sign up, which I said was fine, I still didn't want to. The woman again was going on about points, saying things like "it only takes a second". That is not the point! I don't like giving my name and number to stores and I shouldn't have to be bullied into doing so. My boyfriend finally just gave them his name and number so we wouldn't hold up the line but I am really annoyed by this. If it is the actual store policy that in order to purchase anything from the store you have to give your information THEN JUST SAY THAT. Please do not keep trying to get me to do something I don't want to do if I say no more than once, it's very aggressive and totally ridiculous behavior. Give people the courtesy of listening when they tell you no multiple times, OR if you have to give your information to purchase then tell them that and respect their time and choice to shop somewhere else. I feel that Ulta has really stepped it up over the last few months. When they opened, I was super frustrated by the lack of floor staff. On my last visit, I was able to find someone, and she was awesome with suggestions and helping me find what I needed. I'm sad I forgot her name! I saw some of the negative reviews here, and I think that not every salesperson is going to be the right fit for you. For example, I'm always drawn to fair complected sales people because they deal with their own fair skin, so they probably will be able to help me find the items that work best on my fair skin. If you're over 40, and you think your sales person is too young, ASK them who the expert is on aging skin. We all have needs, and there are those who will be more specialized in certain areas. You don't have to be offensive and they shouldn't be offended by someone asking for a specialist. I appreciate that I can get both higher end and drugstore items in the same place. read more

Paid $190 for what was supposed to be painted on blonde highlights. I said, I want my roots darker and the ends blonde. Blended in the middle. I even pulled several pics for reference. He said he felt comfortable & I trusted him.. I also asked for a "blunt chop" to which he responded, "yea I'll layer it a little too" I said, please don't. That is why I asked for a BLUNT cut. The point is, NO layers ‍ That shoulda even been my clue, but I let him continue.. Once the foils were all on, I said "are we going to cover my grays and do brown on my roots?" His reply was " I didn't quote you for that" Seriously? $190 and that doesn't cover my roots!!!!?? Once we rinsed it was clear that he gave me an all over highlight. My hair simply looked like it was a shade lighter all over. NO brown to blonde (or golden blonde) as we discussed. On top of that, the styling was horrific. NOBODY would actually wear their hair as he "styled". I am pretty sure he knew I was upset, but he didn't seem to care.. I left. Tipped him $15. And walked out with my head down. I ordered online and did store pick up. My husband went to pick up the order with the confirmation email & QR code, only to be told he couldn't pick up the order because his name wasn't on the order! I called spoke to the manager & was told that's the policy. It's ridiculous. It's easier to pick up medication from a pharmacy than make up from Ulta. The curbside pick up & in store pick up policies differ in requirements as well! It's time to review the policy & make things easier for your customers. read more

I made an online appointment at Ulta and was very nervous getting my hair cut by someone I didn't know and had no references or recommendations for. I was super desperate! I have been there a few times, choosing different stylists in hopes of better results. I will say they are overpriced for the quality of their work. DO NOT let them curl or wave your hair after any service, this way you can see results a lot better. The first time I went in for a balayage because of their open schedule and availability. It was horrible. It looked like highlights from the root down with no blending. I could clearly see all the bleached lines. A second time I went in for soft highlights. My hair gets blonde very fast and somehow I ended up with orange-looking ones. Hair coloring service plus an extra $45 for literally a 1-minute ends trim, which they offered to do without letting me know it was extra until I was at check out. I paid for an all-over hair service which was the priciest one only to, later on, realize she had skipped the whole bottom third of my hair like I wouldn't notice. I was told I would have to come back after making a second appointment. WHAT! I paid to get it done the first time around but it took really long because the lady was too busy arguing with her boyfriend on the phone. She would highlight a section of my hair and walk away for 5 min. She did this over and over again. read more

They were closed "due to extreme weather conditions" as states on their door on 9/13. Yes, the air quality is very bad, but how is it any different for their employees to be breathing the air inside their homes vs being inside the store? Chico is not in an area where there is even an evacuation warning let alone a mandated evacuation. In addition, Costco and other business nearby are open. The car wash down the street is even open! This is very disrespectful to their customers. I live an hour away and checked their website for their store hours before traveling. Their webpage said they were open. All they had to do was think a little bit like a respectable business and update their store hours on their webpage! This is extremely frustrating; so much so that I won't be returning. I have never had such a poor experience at a store than I have at this Ulta location. I went in shopping for some new makeup since my other makeup had expired and ran out since COVID began and I hadn't been wearing makeup due to masks. My work is now all online with video chats so I wanted to buy new makeup to look presentable. I went in and wasn't greeted even tho two sales associates were up front not helping anyone. Normally this doesn't bother me and I could care less but due to the rest of my experience now I find it weird looking back. I wanted to try a new brand of foundation so I went a found an employee who was loudly talking about politics with her other co worker in the middle of a isle. I stood there waiting for them to finish before one asked if I needed help. I told them I was looking for a light weight foundation and asked what they recommended. One of the girls blantly looked at me and said "honestly for you I'd recommend something more covering than a sheer foundation"... thanks. I told her "that's not what I'm looking for" and she told me to check the drug store section. When I was walking away the two girls began talking again and called me something amongst the lines of a "trumpy" whatever that means ... I'm assuming politics since that's what they were already talking about . I shopped alone the rest of my trip without once being asked if I needed help and left the store to go to Sephora. TLDR: paid $70 for rushed service and an uneven haircut. I wish I could separate the store review from the salon. Store is fine. The salon though. I needed a trim- I have long hair, with no layers, for reference. I work way out of town and my schedule is busy, typically I do a walk in at JC Penney, but I was at Ulta, so I thought I would ask about walk ins there. I personally felt that the person at the computer was rude when I walked up, I sensed I had interrupted the conversation she was having with a stylist. Asked about a walk in and was told, in an hour. No biggie, but that isn't really a walk in, I started to decline the hour appointment when a stylist jumped in and said she could do it. I wish she hadn't. She was clearly rushed and the whole experience felt like I was an inconvenience. Furthermore, went to pay afterwards and the basic cut, no bangs, no layers, was $70 before tip (and yes I tipped because I'm not a de-gen). Still in shock from the cost, I went home and my husband immediately noticed the cut with a "it's crooked." Yep. Wish I had noticed at the salon. The hair colors were bad, wow and 250, bucks which now I have to go back and try to retrieve, so I can go somewhere else. Don't do what I did.
