Very disappointed in this nail salon. My wife got her hair done here yesterday before our wedding and it was a complete disaster. My wife specifically asked for certain things that the hairdresser explicitly ignored against the what the BRIDE literally wanted her hair to be like. I don't care if you as hairdresser don't think it'll look good in your head. You do not mess with a woman's hair like that on HER WEDDING DAY. Absolutely do not recommend. You will be rushed and ignored. These people couldn't care less about your special day, time to shut up cause they know what's best for you. After weeks of contemplating where to go for a much needed cut, I decided on Crucial Salon. They have good yelp reviews and offered a $30 for $40 deal. I booked with April. I asked for long layers with curtain bangs. With this style, most hairstylists would fix my side part to a middle part. I haven't had my hair done here yet, but Kaytlyn is easily one of the best nail artists in Chico! If you're anything like me, and you're tired of the sloppy work and crap service you get from most of the popular nail salons around town, you need to book an appointment with Kaytlyn, RIGHT. NOW. I am super stoked to have found her, and I will never go to anyone else as long as she is in Chico! Almost every time I come in, she has new colors or new rhinestones/charms or new stamps or new foils or new chrome powders or new "mood" gel polish colors...OMG I'm like a kid in a candy shop! I just pick my colors and let myself be her guinea pig; she has never let me down and I love not having to make decisions lol. The ladies in my office visit my desk after I get a fill just to see what Kaytlyn has come up with, this time! The photos are from her Instagram, but these are just a few of the sets she's done for me. I think the thing that impresses me the most about Kaytlyn's work is not only how beautiful it is, but how precise and clean it is, especially compared to how much she charges. I was expecting to pay significantly more than the other shops in town, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that she really doesn't charge more than anyone else does. Kaytlyn is actually saving me money, overall. Because of the quality of her work, I don't have to get fills quite as often, so she saves me time, too! The products and tools she uses must be great quality; I could easily go a month between fills if I needed to. A fill at any other shop in town lasts me two weeks at most before the edges want to fall apart! I wasn't going to post a bad review since I got 70% of my money back but I thought I would save someone from getting their hair damaged. I went to see Mikyla and she ruined my hair. I wanted a light brown balayage and my hair is so dead now. She separated my hair in 4 parts and bleached them and rinsed them separately I've never had someone do that. Not only that but she left me sitting there with bleach on half of my head while she blow dried someone else's hair and didn't say anything when she left. My hair is so brassy on the top when I told her multiple times I didn't want brassy hair. I wanted a trim and she cut off way more than that because I know she knew she messed up and killed my hair. I had my hair in layers and my shortest layer is so short compared to my length I'm going to have it cut even more to make it look even. My hair was literally falling off as she was blow drying it. On top of that the root smudge looks so patchy and I walked out with brown hair dye on the sides of my scalp. I know she should have seen the hair dye when she blow dried my hair and could've rinsed properly. I have a little bit of hair now full of breakage, split ends up high on my head, and I have to tie my hair tie three times so it won't fall off. I was there from 11-5 and the salon itself is the dirtiest one I've ever been with. On top of that this was before my graduation weekend :( Hopefully this helps someone. read more

I have been a client of Lindsay's for 12 years (the owner of Crucial Salon). I arrived for my appointment yesterday to find her and the client before me not wearing a mask. When it was my turn, I kindly and respectfully asked if she could wear a mask when doing my hair. Lindsay started yelling and slamming cabinets and had tears in her eyes and went on a total rage of how she doesn't have to wear a mask. I was appalled at her reaction and felt so unsafe. She then told me to leave her salon and said she was going to charge me a "no show" fee and call "authorities" on me. I am so hurt by the way she behaved. I've been a loyal and loving customer of her business and her work. She's a great hairstylist but she's a huge public health risk. Wearing a mask isn't political, it's a reasonable request and required by law in salons. And now I just feel so violated with how she treated me over a respectful and reasonable request. Her response below is a lie. She knows she's lying too. She didn't offer to wear a mask. I politely asked her if she could and she instantly started complaining about how she can't breathe and she wouldn't even wear it over her nose. She then went on a rampage about how "the county is open" and how she shouldn't have to wear a mask. It was such a big deal to her and she was obviously triggered, she was acting so crazy. It was shocking. I couldn't believe she had that reaction. I continually kept trying to calm her down and tell her everything was fine and there was no problem. She just kept raging and told me to get out. I am a social worker, I know how to de-escalate people -- I'm not one to set people off or incite more rage. I also never said I was going to call the Health Dept on her -- LINDSAY was the one (in her rage) to say she would dial the health dept so she could show me that she didn't have to wear a mask. Lol she is lying so hard in her response below and she knows it!!! Lindsay is definitely wrong in this situation and I am owed an apology for what she did. Never had a problem with her in the 12 years I've gone to her -- always loved and supported her. This just came outta no where. read more

Came in a couple minutes early for my daughter's appointment, witnessed Lindsay cutting a customer's hair while neither of them wore masks. When the previous customer left, I politely inquired if she was going to wear a mask (as it definitely required as of today, October 1, 2020) and she aggressively answered "Nope!" I said we'd wouldn't be able to keep our appointment as a result and she only replied with "Okay! Bye!" She may be an amazing stylist, but Crucial is not following state mandates and they seem pretty dang proud of it. read more

I've been getting my nails done by Kaytlyn for 5 years and I would never go anywhere else. Kaytlyn does an amazing job, and can handle any design no matter how simple or complex. I get so many compliments on them, no matter what the design, and she always makes sure I walk out happy. Kaytlyn is also one of the sweetest people ever and she's become a great friend through the years. Lindsay is also amazing. Got a great service today from Kristine for a basic haircut. 5 min before the appt Kristine called and texted me that an unforeseen obstacle might make her 10 mins late. I really appreciated this, so I wasn't left wondering. She arrived just a few minutes later and got me started right away. Very professional in handling the situation. She got me seated right away. I have wavy/curly hair that is kind of unruly and honestly had only had 1 trim the past two years. We talked briefly about what I wanted (a trim and to tame it - she suggested layers and long side bangs). Next she washed my hair and we talked about a scalp condition that had been aggregated by stress (itchy with flakes). She gave me some great feedback about what to do and products I could use to alleviate it. The cut turned out well, and she blow dried and flat ironed it to check for evenness and a basic style. I would go back to Kristine. Also a great value - only $30 for the cut. Overall impression of the salon: it seemed like a slow morning. Just me and one other client (but only two stylists, so maybe fully booked for the morning). The place had a low key vibe - the location has only been open a few months. I give Kristine a 5 and the salon as a whole a 4, with the expectation it will grow into a 5 as it becomes more established. read more

A few words on Jordan, the fabulous esthetician: I've been visiting Jordan for an eyebrow + underarm wax for the past few months and have been pleasantly met with flexibility, consistency, and kindness. I can always count on the use of quality product and a careful hand. Additionally, I've taken to splurging on facials every three or so weeks ( I'm telling you, it's justifiable). My review is specifically about Lindsay. She has been cutting my hair for years. I have traveled with her when she moved shops. I can honestly say she knows her stuff! After having her cut my hair the first time I never went to anyone else and never will (as long as she's working). It's like she treats everyone as an individual. She knows my hair type, understands how it will fall, how it shapes. She takes her time and is a perfectionist. I can't praise her enough. She understands that I'm pretty low maintenance at home and can cut my hair in a way that's super easy to manage, even for someone who only washes and breaks out the blow dryer on rare occasions. Besides her attention to detail she is very knowledgeable about hair in general. How to treat it, care for it and be responsible with it. I'm not the only person who agrees. My super introverted, could care less about style husband also gets his hair cut by her because he feels comfortable with the work she does. For men she doesn't just pull out the razor and go for it.
