I hate getting my hair cut because I treasure it so much and cuts make me nervous, and I'm just a student here in Chico so I had no idea where to go to get my hair done. I found this wonderful place downtown, and Elva was incredible and gave me a trim exactly how I wanted it as well as bangs!! Terrible place. I went to get my hair split bleached and dyed a purple red color my hair isnt virgin and i have home dyed it for years and never had an issue with lifting when i bleach my hair or color not sticking and my hair has never once turned green or bled after rinsing the color out. I ended up spending $400 on ugly green hair. The older lady doesnt know what shes doing she didnt rinse out all the color from my hair and when i called a few months to see what we can do to fix the issue she said she could charge me $200 to re bleach to fix it. When i asked if she could discount it some becuase of her mistake she said no becuase shes not obligated to fix any issues after a customer leaves the store. read more

My boyfriend and I both went in for haircuts; our stylist was Elva. My boyfriend asked for a mullett/mohawk type of cut, and she kind of laughed at him at first, but quickly realized he was being serious. After his cut (which turned out well) it was my turn. I told her I wanted bangs and a trim on my layers. She trimmed my hair, cut a thin layer of bangs (much thinner than what I envisioned), and asked if I wanted it styled or just the cut. I said I would like it styled (as that was the expectation I had given on the phone when making the appointment). After she was done drying my hair she told me it would be $25 for my boyfriend, and $65 for me. She then informed us it was cash or check only. A $40 price difference just to have my hair dried. Not ONCE did she asked me if I liked my hair while she was cutting it, not once did she ask if the bangs were long enough/thick enough, nor did she ask how I would like it styled (she just did a blow out of her own volition when I would have liked it either straightened or wavy), and on top of all that she didn't talk to me the entire appointment. I'm okay with not gabbing the entire time, but she didn't attempt conversation at all. And then to only accept cash or check, come on, get a Square, people. read more

I used to get my hair done at this salon but I just couldn't handle the way Bea treated her customers. She was rude to clients if she was having an issue with the hair stylist they were seeing. She would constantly talk sh*t about her clients as soon as they walked out the door. read more

They accepted a walk in which was nice, but cut my hair dry, didn't give me a wash or style and it was still $45 for a haircut. I wish she would have cut off more as well. I asked for about a 2 inch trim and it barely felt like she cut an inch off. I would not go here again. read more

All I got was a hair cut which most places can do pretty quick and simple. The lady that did my hair took extra care to try to make sure everything was even but I got home and noticed there were a few bits that were longer than the rest. Also it says their haircut price is $25 but in the end she charged me $65 for a wash and haircut. Literally she just cut my hair and it was almost triple the price that was listed. read more

I just got my hair cut and colored here and I'm absolutely going back. Michele gave me the perfect shade of red with subtle but fun highlights, and got the cut just right! She took her time to do it right, gave good advice, and listened to what I wanted. If I had a question she answered it easily and nicely. I have been a customer of Elva for over 18 years. We have had a couple of different hair colors and perms. Needless to say hairstyle changes as well She never let me down with the different choices we made over the years. Having gray and thinning hair she does her magic every Friday. The hair Works is a clean friendly shop with very reasonable prices that fit senior citizens pocketbook. I got my hair cut a couple of weeks ago by Elva. I was getting over 12 inches cut off, so I was nervous. She did an amazing job! Not only was I asking for a drastically different cut, but my hair is thick and wavy. Elva listened to what I wanted and then spent an entire hour cutting my hair.
