I had been here before and had a good cut, a bad cut, and a few indifferent cuts, not preparing me for a nightmare cut. I had asked the operator to cut my bangs and trim my layers, but she took much, much more.
Usually, I need to go home and wash my hair and let it dry to see what the cut looks like. When I walked out after the last cut, I knew something was very wrong. My hair did not bounce or even move the way it usually did. When I saw my hair in the car mirror, it looked terrible. I had a little fluff on the top of my head and what was left of my hair hung down to my shoulders in a thin straight uneven fringe, my ears sticking out. The hair that was left on the top two inches of my head curled up unpleasantly and every gray hair I possessed sprayed out (I had just taken five years to grow out my hair to its natural color where the gray was just an interesting highlight). She had taken almost three-quarters of my hair. I cried for two weeks.
I contacted the owner and went back in a few days later for a makeover cut. There was no apology and no refund and she glossed over what had happened. The only explanation I received is that the person had cut it from the wrong angle. She wasn't able to do anything except trim a few bits here and there to try to even it up as there was just too little hair left and nothing left to shape.
A few weeks later, I went to another stylist at another salon. She assumed, when I walked in, that I had naturally thin hair and I must have let a friend cut it. She was horrified when she found out this cut was deliberate. She found that my fine hair 1) had been (severely) thinned, 2) had been cut upside-down, backwards, and against the curl, 3) was left uneven in both length and volume, and 4) a huge divot was cut on the back of my hair where I had a cowlick.
My hair grows at the rate of less than a quarter of an inch a month, about 3/8" every two months, so it will take at least five years before I again see the hair that had been hacked off in less than fifteen minutes. It will take almost six months just to grown out the divot.
I am very angry and feel victimized. The owner left me with a huge mess that I am literally paying for. I now pay more money for a cut with a stylist that understands fine curly hair. Before, my hair could look good with even a cheap cut as it would fluff out and look great, but there just isn't any hair left. I am buying expensive silica supplements, hoping it will hasten hair growth, and coloring my hair, which I did not want to do, in order to cover up the gray that is so unattractively displayed. I still cry when I look in the mirror. read more
