I have never had such a bad experience at an Ulta! I drove 4 hours to come visit Charlotte and decided to stop by to buy cologne for my husband. We were WAITING for over 30 minutes for help. When we would get help they would just pull out the tester and leave. Went in the store hoping to leave with something to gift my husband, but walked out with nothing since no one wanted to help us out. All employees were either too busy on their phones or would walk past us. So unprofessional. read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had at Ulta. I waited in line to checkout for 15 minutes with 2 checkers until one of them decided to casually stroll away to put away products. When she returned 5 minutes later and then loitered around the other checker instead of helping the long line of waiting customers, I put my products down and told her I couldn't continue to wait and that they needed to have more than one checker working. She gave me a dirty look and said, "that's what happens when you shop on the weekends." I was appalled and will never return to this ulta. Attention all POC!! This store is not for us! I started going to ulta after being mistreated immensely within sephora stores, however now i'm being treated even worse in ulta. I was followed and hovered over by all the women working there today. Primarily by two older caucasian women. I believe they pulled employees out of the break room to watch me as well considering the amount of people insisting that I "needed help". It's unfortunate that I need to go to specific stores for good hair care, and now I am being treated as if I shouldn't even be in those stores. I have been here several times. The store is located in a shared shopping center there's plenty of parking available. It's in a great location they have hired several people it seems every time I come the store is fully staffed however the line to check out is existentially long. They were literally have one person checking people out yet there are 8 to 10 sales people on the floor doing nothing but socializing. The staff who have spoken to me or assisted me in finding products have been friendly. The store is well lit and organized. It is clean, but frequently smells like somebody has bathed the front area in perfume. It may be helpful if they have one sales associate stand at the front to assist people in the perfume section. Maybe they can provide pieces of paper that they can spray the perfume on. be sure to check the website to ensure your items are in stock that you desire before coming or purchase online. The 40 plus reviews for this location all kinda line up with my experience. The store has a lot of great makeup and hair products and even an in store salon, But there's a culture of rudeness found at this location that cannot be excused. I don't know if it's taught but it's definitely tolerated by the management to have that many bad reviews. An uppity elite attitude with a distinct rude air about it is what I experienced today. Maybe I don't fit the rich enough look .... I don't know but I was certainly treated with arrogant service experience when I apparently interrupted two employees standing around speaking to each other. I obviously inconvenienced the one employee who had to stop and pretend to care about helping me. Once she quickly looked for the fragrance I asked about - she dismissed my request with a quick reply of "we don't carry that " and moved on. I've been to this location a few times and I've really liked it. I liked it so much I decided to apply for a job there. This was back in January that I applied. I called the store multiple times to check the status of my application, and each time I was directed to a different person. I finally went in person to speak to the hiring manager because I REALLY wanna work at Ulta. I was told to at they would pull my application and call me back. That was in February. Now every time I call the store I get an automated message and never get to speak to a real person. Also when I went to the store in person, it seemed unorganized and there were a lot of empty shelves. Not sure what's going on with the staff at this location, but they seem a bit unorganized. I generally love Ulta, and I buy a lot of products from them (online). This location, though, needs some help with its customer service skills. I checked out and the very young cashier offered me the credit card and I said yes. What do I need? They (with another young cashier) hesitated and told me that I need to purchase other items so I can use the 20% off on my first order. The first cashier told me she couldn't help me unless I purchase more items. Instead of checking, she handed me the receipt and told me that if I want to apply I need to buy more items (for the 3er time). They did not have a clue on how to offer a credit card. I asked them both, then if I qualify I need to wait for the physical card, right? Oh yes, they said. So then why do I need to buy more items? She never offered me to redeem my points. I requested samples, they told me they had only one... The next cashier just wasn't very friendly. I had intended to buy a few things, but the attitude from the employees was unwelcoming and I left. Followed around INTENSELY by a 5'2, 70-ish yr old white woman with a short, blondish bob the entire time I was in store (7844 Rea Rd). She asked once if she could help, I said no thank you so I was followed up until I got the register. I'm almost disgusted that I still spent $363. There were times this woman was about 6 steps away from me watching me as plenty of ppl walked in who probably could've actually used assistance. I can't help but feel it was possible racial profiling but I want to see the best in people. I do understand that stealing is a problem in stores. I literally go in stores with no purse (just a wallet) for this reason... trying to put people at ease but that wasn't enough I suppose. Worse experience ever. I desperately needed a hair cut and my usual stylist at another salon moved to California in February. I haven't been to anyone since. Finally today I had enough and walked into Ulta without an appointment. Michael was available immediately and I think I just won the hair lottery. He was polite, kind, and incredibly talented. Brow bar! I'm not a regular Ulta shopper, but when in Charlotte last week, I agreed to run some errands with my BFF Sloan. She was on the hunt for Essie Smokin' Hot nail polish and was optimistic they'd have it in stock. No such luck, which was a bummer for her. But, I was pleasantly surprised to see the brow bar and it came in extremely handy as I was in need of a little waxing. The girl did a great job and i had to wait only a few minutes. When she told me she accepted a management role-I was very happy she was moving up in her company. With her promotion, also came a change in location. I'm talking about the ever humble, very confident and super talented Taylor Teeter. Taylor does a great job at cutting hair-she styles both women's and men's hair. Once she gets an idea of what you want, she is there to make sure you are happy, look great and makes each appointment personal. Even with her level of expertise, she is always learning ways to improve her craft. She is a genuine person, who will make you feel at home and delivers great service every time. They have almost everything I was looking for when it came to colognes. I went to smell a few that I had on my list to sample. They let you do your thing without a salesperson being too annoying. They have some good deals and every once in a while, a good freebee based on spend amount. I like that there are enough things for men here. you can find things for men's shaving, lotions and other grooming needs. I bought something for my daughter for Christmas and paid a decent price. Love that all the staff were taking all the precautions to make everyone walking in the store safe. I got my first ever hair cut at Ulta. I met Ms. Ana, she is a hairstylist at Ulta. She made sure everything was sanitized before and after it is used. Even the hir brush and the comb. she listened to me what i want, how I wanted my hair to be done. I have curly and fizzy hair which are very hard to style and manage. Ms. Ana just changed my look with her amazing cutting and styling skills. I am so so so happy with the style she did. Went in after work on Monday to grab some nail polish. As I walked in, I was not greeted by either of the 3 employees that were by the door. Whatever. As I walked through the aisles to find the nail polish I was looking for (which was a task being that the nail polishes aren't in one designated area but spread about) I kept getting stared at from the employees. Now, I've been in this situation before. I've been a Black Woman for 25 years now. I get how prejudice this World can be. However! The only color Ulta Beauty employees should be concerned about is Green $$$. Anyway, I found the nail polish I wanted and continued to walk around to see if maybe something else jumped out at me. I got to the OPI nail polish display and a 'manicurist' was in the section with me. She saw me looking for something and did not ask me if I needed assistance; however, she did make sure to block me from grabbing any colors by ignoring my presence and not sliding to the side. Again, this isn't my first experience with this. As I walked toward the register to pay for my polish, I passed by 4 employees who all looked at me and not one asked me if I found what I was looking for. I got to the register and the young lady who rung me up was actually pleasant. She complimented my nail polish choice as well as the lipstick I was wearing and even told me about their rewards program and signed me up. I wish I knew her name because she is probably the only reason why I would revisit that location. After the Covid Quarantine I needed my hair cut badly I went to a place in South Carolina and they did a horrible jobs. I waited about 6 weeks and made an appointment at Ulta Beauty on Rae Rd I generally go to the Matthews, NC location but they were booked up.....so I made an appointment at the Rae Rd location. I was told that Sarah was a master stylist and was amazing at working with fine thin hair. I explain what I wanted showing her a picture. I pointed out that I needed my right side way longer. Sarah cut my hair totally opposite of what I told her. I now have the same length on both sides. My hair is now super short and I look like a dyke with a very boy looking hair cut. When I confronted her about her not keeping my right side long she replied, "It'll grow back, at least it's not stringy and looks healthier...you needed to start over." Each day I get more and more angry about it. It's my hair and I decide what look I want not Sarah. I will never go to that Salon again! I'll stick with the Matthew's location. read more

Every time I go here the makeup products I want are always out of stock not only that but the testers of products are either empty or missing. They never replace testers when empty or seem to restock often with brands that are popular and sell out quick. I don't know who manages the restocking situation but they need to be fired. My daughter grabbed a bottle of remover to at least get enough off so I could get in my car without ruining that too. I visited Ulta looking for a specific product for my poor child's unruly head of hair. I really hate that I passed my hair gene down to her. Salon Service Review I had not had a professional haircut for about five years. I would get my ends cut every now and then. I saw the review left on Micheal and decided to book an appointment for a signature hair cut and highlights. I explained to Micheal what I had in mind and he listened. He was very professional, had great input and suggestions based on what I had told him I wanted. The entire makeover process was wonderful. I wanted to cut my long hair and get some color. He gave me a great new haircut and the color of the partial highlights was perfect. I have gotten soo many compliments on my haircut. I will be back to see Micheal. I highly recommend him. read more

I wander all over the store looking for that Naked eye shadow, you know which one... Super pretty, I think it's just under $40. Searching for that, know what I want, just not where to find it. There are associates EVERYWHERE, but none of them paying attention to me. Two associates helping someone else. One walks by me (while I'm browsing clearance) but doesn't say anything. I wander around some more, obviously looking for something - and no one offers to help or even check on me. ...ULTA, I JUST WANT YOU TO HELP ME SPEND MY MONEY. I finally found the Naked eyeshadow. I do not go to Ulta for their Salon services, but I love the products they carry - all levels of quality in cosmetics, professional salon hair care products and a limited but overall good selection of fragrances. The service at the 2 stores I frequent (Stonecrest & Cotswold) is hit or miss... sometimes I experience great customer service and other times it is less than stellar. But all in all, I prefer going there than having to go to the mall for the products I want. read more

I wanted to share my honest opinion about the salon. Very over priced for what you get. I used to come here because I thought this was the cheapest option out there for color and cuts. A cut with the lowest stylist is more expensive now, and the stylist ruined my hair completely with the dye job (Attached a picture). It took 3 visits with other professionals (similar costs) to finally fix my hair. However, I returned with a friend who was looking for a specific color, and the individual with beautiful natural hair was not helpful at all. She was so busy telling her that "we don't order" and "come back on Monday" that she didn't understand that I was asking where the closest Ulta was located. She also was telling my friend how "these cost more" without asking what her budget was. Never assume...and stop the sister hate. Minus 4 stars for that.
