For a few reasons - - ITCHY SCALP FROM PRODUCT Some folks may like an Aveda salon and their products, but, the clean 'ammonia free' products they claim to use, need to sit on your head for TWICE as long (not good!) and my scalp was ITCHY for dayssss after my appointment! The color did NOT hold or stay vibrant and faded pretty fast. HUGE PRICE INCREASES The prices here seem to fluctuate quite a bit every couple of months. When I questioned it, I was given the brush off. It went from 150 to 165 to 180 and now 200 for the SAME SERVICE within a few year period...? Im sorry, WHAT. NEW BOGUS FEE - is now added on to ALL services. As a "service fee"...beware of this! They add it on without your knowledge. FRONT DESK GIRLS UNFRIENDLY i've noticed a gradual downhill service with the people that check you in. Not friendly. Did not like when I questioned the consistent price increases. Just plain rude. HALF EMPTY SALON Another note to point out- every time I would come here the salon would have literally 5-6 people in it. With chairs set for 30 clients... more than half empty is not a good look. When I first started going to Element 5, I was very happy with my experience. I was working with Brittney Rubac, who was extremely friendly and gave me flawless haircuts for the first six months. After that, however, the quality of my cuts declined significantly, and I experienced a number of recurring issues. Here are a few of the reasons for my negative review: 1) After the first few visits, Brittney inexplicably stopped shampooing my hair. I do prefer dry cuts, but it's still customary to wash and shampoo the client's hair at the end before blow-drying and styling it. A few times I even reminded her by asking, "Are you going to wash/shampoo my hair?" Unless I reminded her, she simply wouldn't do it. I eventually got tired of having to ask every time and just let it go because it wasn't worth making a big deal out of. 2) Brittney started rushing through my haircuts to the point where they were basically done in 20-30 minutes. I came in late one Thursday evening, and I was literally out of the chair in 20 minutes. When she brought me to the front desk, the receptionist said, "Wow, 20 minutes--that's a new record." Brittney just laughed and said, "I was in the zone!" That really didn't sit well with me because when you're charging top dollar for a haircut (and getting tipped 25%), the last thing you want to hear is someone joking about how quickly they got you out the door. It felt like Brittney's focus had clearly shifted from giving quality cuts to getting through appointments as quickly as possible. I know that she has a long commute home, but spending 20 mins on someone's cut is absurd. 3) Over time, Brittney just genuinely seemed to stop caring about the quality of my haircuts and instead made excuses for shoddy work. Her go-to excuse was that the humidity was affecting how my hair was laying or styling. Once that excuse no longer worked during the winter, she switched to telling me that "your hair is changing." I'm sorry, but my hair did not suddenly change after 6 months, it was the quality of my haircuts that changed. 4) After months of subpar cuts, Brittney gave me another haircut that I wasn't happy with, and I let her know how I felt. Her response was to immediately call the owner and ask that I no longer be serviced at the salon. I'm disappointed that not only did I receive poor haircuts for well over six months, but when I finally expressed my frustration, the solution was simply to stop serving me as a client. I never raised my voice at Brittney, or used foul language, or did anything that could be conceived as inappropriate - I just simply expressed dissatisfaction which Brittney did not want to deal with. Honestly speaking, I don't think Brittney is a bad hairstylist, but I do genuinely think she lacks the experience and attention to detail needed for men's haircuts. The owner even mentioned that men's cuts aren't something Brittney does frequently and that she only sees a handful of male clients per week. if you're looking for a quality men's cut, please avoid Brittney Rubac and this salon. read more

Beware, very bad business practice. The service was a shampoo blow dry & style, I paid additional for the "style" because she curled my daughter's hair, this was common and I was perfectly fine with doing this. They charged my card, I didn't realize they did not give my daughter the receipt, so she went back in to retrieve the receipt. I noticed the total was off from what we normally pay. They added a fee that I was not made aware of and was never previously charged this fee. No apology, I was told it's a "new policy" and it's a fee for using the products. How is anyone supposed to know that when you request for a shampoo blow dry & style, you need to pay additional for the shampoo, conditioner & styling products? You would think that in a service that is called a "Shampoo Blow dry & Style that this would be included. It's unfortunate, I liked our service provider, Brianna but the customer service or lack of customer service is the reason I decided to cancel the remaining appointments. The girl that canceled my appointments did smile while doing so and was happy to cancel them for me. Very disappointing. read more

Got a haircut here two months ago and I've hated my hair since. The stylist, Reid, was very nice but gave me a very disappointing cut. She cut off close to 3 inches when I told her I was growing my hair out. She also gave me the most boring straight edge cut that has been so difficult to style. I should've known something was off because she had me faced away from the mirror the entire cut, which I thought was so odd. Typically, I leave a salon feeling better about myself but left this place ready to cry. I was also charged $25 more than what my friend pays for this stylist, but I should've confirmed her price on the phone. The staff are pleasant, the salon is clean, and Reid was very nice--hence the two stars. But I should not have been so hasty and should have just waited for an appointment with my regular stylist at Fresh Salon. Do not recommend and will not return. read more

What a life-changing experience. I have lost trust in this salon altogether. Long story short, they fried and killed the integrity of my hair. I walked away crying by the end of my appointment. This has been such an emotional trauma for me. In all honesty they deserve no stars at all. When I initially set my appointment, the gal who was supposed to do my hair was a no show. Then they assigned me to "an up an coming stylist" that was personable but damaged my hair really bad to the point where my hair keeps falling off. It's brittle! She also did a horrible job at washing my hair throughout the process. The owner refunded my money but that's beside the point, you can't reverse the damage that has been done! Mixed. I had a great experience with Amelia at the Southpark location. Excellent color. With Sharon- Sr. Stylist , Vidal Sassoon trained I had a very expensive bowl cut. Was very surprised at the treatment I received when I went back for a redo within the allotted time- on a Tuesday. When I called to make that redo appointment, the receptionist checked the calendar to be sure it was within the window and she fit me in on a Tuesday, after the redo, which wasn't so great I just think Sharon didn't get my hair. When I was leaving, I was asked to pay. I was surprised because I said I thought we agreed this was a redo. And they said well no we blew out your hair to. If I knew you were charging me for a whole new cut I'd have blown it out myself. they proceeded to charge me for the appointment. I said can we meet in the middle on this because I clearly thought this was a redo I would not have made the appointment on a Tuesday. A word of caution - if someone gives you a bad haircut, the best advice is do not go back to that person for a redo. It did nothing to improve my haircut. Did it make it worse? I'm not sure but it certainly didn't fix it. . It was a waste of time. I also explained I would've done it closer to the weekend if it was a full haircut blow dry I was in for. With attitude Sharon agreed for me to pay half when I left. I just felt this wasn't right. I mean, it was clearly not a good Haircut. Someone actually laughed at me when she saw my hair like what happened to you? You look so round you have a round face anyway. When I drove away, I just thought that wasn't right. I should not have had to have paid half for a redo. My hair does not look good. It didn't look good after the first expensive cut and now I've paid again.? I just felt so bad about it. I called the owner and the owner said I guess we'll have to part ways. We're just not a good fit. I'm happy to part ways with Sharon. I'm sure she's good at cutting hair for some people, but not for me at all, and her attitude was insulting. Too bad for Amelia. She would've had a color client. read more

This salon is fairly sleek and very spacious, which I love...plus, it's good for staying many feet away from other customers. They also exercise stringent safety measures, starting with a check-in questionnaire...and of course, masks are required. Unlike the fiasco in my former salon, Planet 21, where a certain stylist used the physical ailment card to avoid wearing a mask, I haven't seen a single stylist that was walking around maskless here. Overall, I appreciate their dedication to safety...and I really like their cool-yet-cozy vibe here. My stylist, Nancy, is friendly, professional, and she does an excellent job sticking with my request! You may think that's a weird compliment, but in numerous salons I've been to over the years, following a client's request seem to be harder than you may think. I've had many occasions where I asked for 2 inches, and have gotten 6 inches cut off...or asked for cool-tone Red hair, and ended up with Orange hair. Also, she did a great job in cutting my near stick-straight hair. For many years, I've been going to several high-end salons in Charlotte, where I've paid 100-plus bucks for a simple, straight-line haircut (and I've felt ripped off once too often). So for the past several years, I've been searching for a reasonably priced salon like this for a simple haircut like mine. I got my haircut by Sharon and she left me with a lopsided haircut. Towards the end of my appointment, she mentioned she had to go outside and talk to her next client because she was "running way over." It made me feel rushed and very uncomfortable. For this reason, I didn't fully inspect my hair before leaving. As soon as I got home I noticed it was totally lopsided. The photo is exactly how she sent me home. There was like a 1.5-2" difference. I wanted to shower and wash it to see if it was just how she blew it out. By the time I was done, they were closed. I called in the morning at 10ish and talked to Amanda. Sharon wasn't there that day. Amanda assured me either she or the owner would call me back. At 3ish I still had not received a call back, so I called and spoke to Reid and she also assured me I would get a call back. Guess what? No call back. I called the next day at 3ish when I still hadn't heard from anyone and spoke to Melissa. Within 15 minutes the owner called me back and refunded me. The fact that I was sent home with lopsided hair that is also 2" shorter than I very explicitly asked for, and then I had to chase them with multiple phone calls to get a call back shows complete and total disrespect and disregard for their clients. They refunded me the cost of my haircut but I'll never go back. Horrible experience all around. A bad bad bad experience was made even worse by horrendous customer service. read more

Great hair, customer service...meh. I've gotten a copper color balance there 3 times and 2/3 times...after washing my hair several times there is dye on my pillow cases. They went to the extent of getting me in contact with their boss...then Aveeda Corp. but at the end of the day all they could offer me was a "free clear gloss" to lock in the color. Well... they also said I could drive my pillows over so they could try and get the stain out... but I live 30 minutes away so I'm not trying to dedicate hours of my time to a "maybe." So now I'm left with 1 dyed shirt, and 2 dyed pillows. A $150 service x3 but now at least $60-70 in damages. I've been getting my hair done for 8 years and this has never happened. 2 stars because my hair stylist was amazing and I don't blame her, I just blame Aveeda products and the overall way this situation was handled. read more

They brought me in at 10am for a consultation and the stylist, Rachel, was able to help me out 2 hours later. She was so understanding and took such good care of me!
