The service was really great, the server was super knowledgeable of the saki menu and helped me pick out my drink. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The food came out quickly and the vibes were really great.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a small space but there is a lot going on and the flow is nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Everything was tasty and the wontons were our favorite. The hamachi crudo was fresh but it was very basil forward. The only dish I wasn't crazy about was the Mentaiko Mazemen - it had very little flavor for the variety of ingredients, so it somehow ended up tasting just like buttered noodles. Everything else was flavor packed though.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Ukiyo is a Japanese restaurant with a ramen bar and is a very hip urban Japanese spot in Savannah.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The lights dimly lit and the main entrance includes a massive fully stocked bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There's a great selections of Japanese Whiskey, Sake and cocktails. We had a reservation and when we entered it was a bit confusing with people all over the place in the entrance not sure whether waiting to speak to the hostess or just casually waiting to be called for their table. After getting sorted we spoke to the hostess and then were shortly seated. The waiter came and took our drink orders right away. We got 2 cokes and a Whiskey Sour with Japanese Whiskey. After waiting about 15 min the waiter came back to take our food order, however we still had not gotten our drinks. We asked and said they were coming swiftly. Finally after 10 minutes later our drink orders came in. The cokes were flat but the Whiskey Sour was really good. I can't remember the waiters name but honestly she came by maybe 4 times the whole night and did not have the best attitude. The best thing about Ukiyo hands down was the food. Everything from the Ramen to the wagyu bao buns, just Wow. The wagyu was so crispy and just melted in your mouth. The ramen had amazing flavor profiles and was perfectly spiced. We also ordered the Chicken Karaage and this was so tender with the citrus mayo. This was also pretty big so were easily filled with all these dishes. The food and cocktails were amazing but the service really did disappoint from the delays and infrequent interactions.

I have mixed feelings about our visit to Ukiyo. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could give half stars. A large party came in before my group of 2, so we had to wait awhile before we were even acknowledged. Thankfully we were seated fairly quickly after that, but overall we found service quite slow. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is tastefully decorated, but I found it dark and the music was quite loud.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was not overly busy (late lunch on a Saturday) but the music made it hard to hear the server.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ukiyo is marketed as an izakaya which are typically inexpensive and unpretentious. However, I feel like this place is going for a more upscale vibe than what you would find in Japan.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I found the prices high for what we received, and our dishes were hit or miss. I was disappointed that the halibut soba wasn't available, but my party ordered a variety of other options to try. We had: Wagyu buns Charred edamame Chicken karaage Gyoza Tonkotsu ramen Tempura bread pudding The wagyu was well seasoned but extremely chewy. The chicken karaage wasn't as crunchy as we would have preferred and was rather bland. The ramen was ok - the best part was the broth. The gyoza was pretty good, but the overall winners were the edamame and tempura bread pudding. Our bill was over $100 and neither of us left full. I think I will go back in order to try the halibut, but I wasn't overly impressed by this visit.

We had a mixed experience at Ukiyo in Savannah. While the food itself was good, the service really took away from what could have been a great meal. We waited an extremely long time for both our drinks and food, and it was hard not to notice that our waitress spent nearly three hours chatting with another table and socializing with coworkers instead of checking on us. That said, the food was definitely a highlight. We ordered the ramen, kimchi rice, wagyu bao buns, and a sushi roll, and everything we tried was flavorful and well prepared. If the service were more attentive and timely, this place could easily be a standout. Hopefully this was just an off night, because the food has a lot of potential.

If you want to eat where the locals are, this is a place for you. We tried the sashimi platter, tonkatsu ramen, wagyu beef & yuzu sorbet. All were amazing. Wagyu was perfectly cooked, the sashimi was delicious and fresh. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is also beautiful- the burned wood from Japan is beautiful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was also great. Definitely recommend!

Delicious! Everything we had was amazing! Great service! We've had the same server twice now and she was a doll, with fun earrings! Super accommodating when we wanted to move our reservation to earlier in the day. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great ambience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Very nice ambiance, and friendly waiter.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Like that their concept is to bring food as it's ready. Food is on the pricier side for sushi, but the ramen looked more reasonable. Had a seafood noodle dish - I enjoyed it, but not enough to get it again, felt the sauce was a little one dimensional. The shrimp in the dish were super tasty. All in - would come back for ramen, but probably go elsewhere for a wider variety of sushi rolls.

The food here was pretty good, however, it was shocking how expensive every dish was. The portions were small for some dishes. For two people during lunch, we spent nearly $80 on two appetizers and two entrees. We were still hungry afterwards. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. It's just too expensive for what you can get elsewhere.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Gorgeous establishment and friendly staff.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our waitress was attentive and provided excellent service. The food was incredible with the hamachi crudo being the absolute best. I'd come back just for that dish alone. We can't wait to return and try more items off the menu soon.

    Waygu brisket bao buns

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Such a cool place to stumble upon.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were blown away by the bao buns, we ordered the waygu brisket. The buns were perfect! Both of our sushi rolls were great, it was refreshing to see a sushi menu with creative rolls. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sitting at the noodle bar is a must![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This place badly wants to be higher class than it actually is, which is funny bc a true izakaya is the exact opposite of the pretentiousness it gives off. I get that it's closer to downtown, but that's exactly it, but it's across the street from hip and lowkey Starland Yard and doesn't fit into those vibes. We came in without reservations on a Sunday night around 6 and was placed at the bar bc we didn't have reservations. All good there and to their credit the place did fill out by the time we were leaving around 730. Service at the bar was prompt and friendly. Sake selection is pretty good, Japanese whiskey selection is a joke when combining selection with prices. Menu was varied enough, and props for having stuff like okonomiyaki and takoyaki (had this, good but not great). I ended up getting the tonkotsu ramen which was solidly above average and featured some really good chashu. However at $21 a bowl, wouldn't be in my top 5 in Atlanta with prices upwards of 20% less. At the end of the day this place is fine, really, but just that. I wouldn't come back on my own accord but if friends wanted to I would accommodate.

Amazing! The sushi, the gyoza, & the wagyu buns were so yummy! The service was good & [[HIGHLIGHT]]it's so pretty inside[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Wasabi martini was also incredible!

Ukiyo is fantastic. The sushi and ramen are both incredible, and the drinks are just as good. I've been twice already and each visit has been consistently amazing. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to again. Highly recommend!

The following review: Service - An employee by the name of Colin, who helped me at the register and take my order was very friendly, welcoming, and very patient with me. He was able to explain things to me on the menu while I was trying to decide on things. Food - I ordered, a bowl of rice, gyoza, chicken karaage, a tonkatsu ramen with char siu. Everything was well cooked, tasted great, the gyoza and chicken was nice hot and crispy. Ambiance - I'm not really an anime person but I appreciate the overall idea and concept. Verenice was the BEST! Give that girl a raise or a promotion! She was doing it all! From taking orders, bringing food out, and cleaning up tables! She helped us navigate the menu/ordering. She also brought out our food to the table and was so helpful during our first time here. There were lots of ramen options to choose from. You choose your broth and meat option and that tells you your price. You can add extra toppings for additional costs. Runs about less than $20 a person. They have fountain drink options as well as other Asian drinks. They have rice bowl options as well as meat on a stick. They don't have kids meal options but it's about $8 for noodles and broth. Which is a good option for kids. I ordered shoyu broth for my son. I didn't realize it would taste so salty. I understand it's a soy sauce broth. But most ramen broths I've had isn't to that degree. I asked if they could add hot water to the hot water to make it less salty. Verenice again was so helpful, she brought the ramen back out and said if I needed more water added to just ask. I will say I did not appreciate the additional comments from some of the kitchen staff. The place is decorated with lots of anime characters. They have a vending machine with goodies. A claw machine with stuffed animals and lots of Pokémon cards for sale.
