If you're looking for a good tailor, this is the place…read more I originally had my wedding tuxedo alterations done by the retail store where I bought it, and it was a total disaster. The pants were especially bad, the center seam was haphazardly pinched and sown together. With my wedding in two weeks, I gave these guys a call, and it was the best decision ever. Not only did they turn it around in time, I felt so taken care of. Nick and the team are truly amazing. They obsessed over the results more than I did, and wouldn't stop until it was perfect. If you want quality service and true care that is so rare these days, look no further. They rescued my tux and I'll be forever grateful. I'll be coming back for more alterations in the future. The fit, feel, and look is truly unmatched.

One of those truly inexplicable overall Yelp ratings to me. I had a couple suits tailored here,…read moreand I wouldn't ever use them again. A. Extremely expensive. Both suits required a moderate amount of work but nothing major, and I was charged about $350 total -- no specifics, more of a holistic billing approach. But the Yelp reviews were very positive (even better at the time than they are now) so I was willing to shell out. B. The work was very clearly farmed out to someone else, and was done terribly. One of the pants was taken in so far in the seat that about half my butt fit inside it. Nelson's response was to say "oh, one of my guys must have done that" and he fixed it in about ten minutes, and to his credit fixed it very well. I have no idea who that other guy was or how he could possibly have believed a human ass would have been covered by his tailoring, but he was not ready for his assignments. The other pants were cut similarly, but I was fed up and just left -- before I even noticed that the sleeves on one of the jackets were uneven. Nelson himself is probably a great tailor, as evidenced by his cleanup job, but whoever he's giving work to...well, you might as well do it yourself with nail scissors and floss. C. It took forever. I finally called after 5 weeks or so and was told that "your suits have been here forever, we left you several messages, why haven't YOU picked up your suits?" This was, of course, blatantly not true . . . especially since I then showed up, and only one of my suits was there (the other still with Tailor X, as he figured out how to eliminate more butt fabric). PSA: take your stuff elsewhere. You've been warned.

Updating my review because it feels like every time I bring clothing in, I feel like I'm be upsold,…read moreI reframe what I rather want & then the higher price is stuck into the final estimate (& I'm too hot & tired from trying on clothes to notice). :-( Update: -Previous review had $35 each for shortening a sweatshirt sleeve & similar long-sleeve tee sleeve (was originally quoted $25 for the tee & extra for rush, which I decided that I didn't need.) - $75: shortened lined spring jacket sleeves. Sleeves originally had a balloon style cuff, but I was fine with a simple no-cuff hem. (think price was kept high...) - $5: small hole in a thin knit sweater - $40: shorten long sleeves, a ribbed cotton shirt - $20: (thinking about calling for a refund) shorten cotton PJ pants. There was a double row of thread on the original hem design that Frankie mentioned. I said that I'm fine with a single regular hem...WHY I didn't pay attention when she wrote everything down & gave me the total for my 3 items! (I also brought in 2 other pairs of pants & decided that I'm going to wait, maybe return 1 of them.) Am I being charged for the short amount of time that we looked at those pants?? Wish they had a price list. - Frustrating. From other reviews, it seems like a lot of tailors in the area have been upcharging...but they all seem to have plenty of work! The Toisan aunties that hang out at the Studio are both super kind (offering snacks & asking "if you're a student...maybe distracting you so you pay $$$ upon drop-off), but then loudly gossiping when you head to use the bathroom. I don't know...the experience seems both wholesome but also like I'm being scammed/upcharged. Maybe the easiest way is measuring & pinning your clothes at home. Asking for clear pricing upfront. Don't get distracted, haggle if needed - "$20 for 2 hemmed pants?? How about I add this 3rd one for a total of $30? Try to agree on $35. LOL OMG)

They told me the suit will be ready at 12, so I picked it up at 12 and hurried home to change, that was when I found out the suit is not finished. I contacted them, and they apologized and agreed to finish the suit. After I got the suit back the second time, I guess the suit is finished, but the quality is absolutely terrible, and they would not give me partial refund for not finishing the suit on time (which was the sole reason I paid 500 dollars for this, if I didn't need it the next day, I wouldn't pay that much for sure). This place cannot deliver their promise and the quality of service is not acceptable, especially for this crazy price.

Sam is one of the best tailors in NYC. My husband and I were married in May, and he did a custom…read more3-piece suit for my husband as well as altering my two dresses. I bought 2 dresses at a sample sale at Kleinfield's, and both needed adjustments. One more so than the other. Sam took the original dress and essentially re-made into a different dress that fit my vision, which was not easy by any means. The dress didn't entirely fit as well and I was very nervous I made a mistake buying the dress. Sam is extremely detail-orientated, and wants everything for his clients to be perfect. I'm so happy we both went to him for our big day. My husbands suit fits him perfectly and the color and pattern were exactly what he was looking for as well. Thank you Sam for everything!

I brought in 3 dresses and each returned to me in worse condition than they'd started. 2 were still…read moremuch too large (he seems to be a bit lax about properly pinning garments, assuming he'll remember later, yet he doesn't). He refused to fix one, did say he'd "fix" the other strapless one (that was still so large it actually fell down). When I came back, the dress was only fitted at the top but nothing had been done to the waist like we'd originally discussed. I decided it wasn't worth letting him try a third time. As for the third dress, I asked for it to be hemmed and was charged to hem the dress itself + 1 layer of lining. When I returned, the inner lining had not been shortened enough (or possibly at all) and was bunching up and showing all along the bottom of the dress. TLDR; none of the items I took to Perry Tailoring were done properly and all items needed to be taken elsewhere to be fixed. His pricing is inexpensive, but in the end I'm paying far more than I would have to have all of the items fixed.

I came in to tailor a bridesmaid dress and initially requested a simple strap shortening, just to…read moreadjust the fit without changing the length of the dress. I specifically did not want the dress hemmed. However, Perry encouraged me to also shorten the dress. I was hesitant and even suggested we start with the straps first, then decide on hemming later if needed. He insisted that he might not have availability later to do the hem, which pressured me into agreeing. Before moving forward, I clearly stated that I still wanted the dress to touch the floor and not end up too short. Unfortunately, when I tried on the dress, it was far too short. So in the end, I paid extra for an alteration I didn't originally want, based on his recommendation, and it made the dress worse. Not only that but when I picked it up, Perry mentioned he hadn't realized the dress had three layers and tried to charge me an extra $20- which I didn't pay. I would never come back here again.

Having tried many of these spots my conclusion is that they are pretty similar, and depends on what you are looking for and who you end up being comfortable with. Having arrived late to NYC, I found out several of the shops closed early on Sunday.
