In LES where it seems to be a tailoring hub, there are several options for getting your alterations done. Having tried many of these spots my conclusion is that they are pretty similar, and depends on what you are looking for and who you end up being comfortable with. Having arrived late to NYC, I found out several of the shops closed early on Sunday. Felix was the only one open and since I had a limited need of just getting my trousers hemmed decided to chance it. The places is tiny and looks crammed with orders. There is a very small fitting room, where you barely can fit in, but worked for me. Though it was past his closing time, the tailor offered to stay back as I only needed hemming which he completed in 15 minutes for three pants. So I've been coming here for about a year for simple hems which they do consistently decent. Only reason for the 2nd star. Today I finally had a pair of jeans that needed more than just a simple hem, it ripped down the middle. The man said yeah he can fix it. He ended up taking almost 2 hours after saying 1 but that's fine. The results? Check the picture I posted. I'd much rather throw away my 200 dollar pair of jeans than wear it again. This is the type of work I expect MYSELF to be able to do with some string and a needle. DON'T COME HERE if you need MORE than a SIMPLE HEM. Very upset and disappointed. Not only did they ruin my jeans(which I'm sure a more skilled tailor could have fixed PROPERLY) I paid him for the half assed patch job. If anybody knows a good/decent tailor please let me know! Only went here because of all the positive reviews but my experience was far from that. Their changing room is a tiny box that doesn't even have a light in it, there are clothes everywhere (they don't have a good organization system), and the service was bad... told me it would be a few days but they didn't even start on it when I came in a week later. read more

He's good with basic pants or jeans tailoring but terrible with any type of women's clothing alternations. They should call him "The Hacker" or "The Butcher" they way he screwed up my blouses! And he's good for giving you the run-around for weeks on in and the last few times I was there my clothes were never ready on time. And that old, musty, cluttered, filthy shop (including that 5 foot tall toliet in the back) needs to be demolished! And Felix is too fresh and he'll flirt with you if he thinks you're cute. :-( read more

Amazing work and fast turnaround. I was looking to hem my pants in short notice and Felix Tailor Shop was able to get them done in a day for only $10! Although they forgot to fix my pants before I went to pick up, I only had to wait for 15 minutes and it came out really well. I'm reluctant to rate Felix because he has been my secret for the better part of a decade, and I fear the day he gets too busy for me. I think other people feel the same but it's criminal that he only has one review so here goes: I have worked with French and Italian bespoke ateliers, patternmakers for Fortune 500 fashion labels, and award winning designers. So when I bring Felix a job, it's often more than a simple hem. And I usually know exactly how it should be done, so I can be extremely demanding. In short, I am the biggest pain in the ass ever as a customer. But Felix always gets it done. Quick, cheap, and most importantly, THE RIGHT WAY. For those who don't see a tailor often, there are plenty of areas where they can (and do) skimp to save time or money. That's the difference between a suit from H&M and a suit from Savile Row. It's the difference between the seamstress at the dry cleaner and Felix. Felix always does it the way that requires more skill, more effort. He'll do everything from avant garde to trad, just be specific and even better bring pictures if you're bad at articulating. Dont' be afraid to ask questions if you're not sure! Normal turnaround is a day or two, but there have been a few times where he saved me in a pinch. Once I had to attend an event for Elle magazine, and literally 30 minutes before it began I showed up at Felix's door with a garbage bag of a suit. He did his thing, and for the rest of the night, most of my conversations revolved around inquiries about the "custom suit" I was wearing. The moral here - you can be a lazy, miserly, procrastinator and none will be the wiser so long as you know this man. read more

I needed a last minute alteration for my wedding dress and I brought my dress to Felix on a recommendation. He hemmed the length up a bit and tightened the sides. I'm so happy with his work! My dress fits perfectly now! He also hemmed a pair of pants and this was all done in a day at a very fair price. The shop is a little out of the way for me to get to, however it was worth the trip because of the professional service and outstanding attention to detail. This is my new spot for tailoring. DO NOT GO THERE. I brought in a pair of suit pants that had a tiny hole on the pocket from where a thread had run. I asked the person up front if they could fix it. He said yes. I came back and they had ruined the pants: they used a different color thread and had a huge patch on. Then when I asked how they had screwed up the pants so bad, they kept saying oh, we only do hems, we can't alter things. If true, then you should only go there to fix a hem, and they shouldn't tell you they can fix things. I've never written a review before this; just do not go there. read more

I've been going to Felix for over 25 years for simple hems, this time he cut with a scissor a brand you pair of wool pants by the leg, not him , his worker, probably by accident. But then goes into denial claiming that I brought it to him this way. Why in the world would someone buy a ripped pair of wool pants and bring it to a tailor to have the pants hemmed? When he measures you for the length, and makes his chalk mark, it would be very obvious if that were the case. He refused to take any responsibility and still paid him for destroying my pants. Pay attention to the negative reviews. I brought in a pleated skirt and double/triple checked w Felix that he could hem it and sustain the hem. He charged me "extra" to do so. When I went to pick it up, the skirt was ruined - not only did he mess up the pleat but he also lopsidedly tailored it. He got defensive and told me I'd have to take it to a drycleaner to fix the pleat - first time I ever heard that. I only went to him because my usual tailor was backed up and when I took the skirt elsewhere they told me all a tailor has to do is cut the skirt from the top to maintain the pleat. I should have known better and been more patient. The skirt is vintage and can't be replaced. I'm now running around trying to find another tailor or drycleaner willing to try and fix his mistake. Save your money - there are so many other tailors in the vicinity, don't go here and take any chances. read more

Note that he has moved to his new address on Allen St. 2 blocks from his previous address...the old bldg. waas demolished. Felix is just TERRIFIC. He is extremely competent, fast, pleasant, and reasonably priced. I honestly don't think you could find a better tailor but you could find one much more expensive...he is well, well worth the trip down to the Lower East Side. its unfortunate to write this. Wanted to try a place that would stay open later than the other places in the area. Dropped off 3 pairs of pants, was told they'd be ready Wed. Too busy to pick up then and I showed up later in the week on Friday, giving them 2 extra days. Only to find my pants still on the counter untouched when i came on Memorial day weekend friday, crunched for time to get out of town. Waited 40 mins to get 2 of the pants repaired as i waited. Left 3rd pair of jeans so they could take their time and i could come back and get following week. Showed up today and they couldnt find my jeans for about 20 mins of looking through untagged, unorganized bags of clothes. Finally found my jeans and guess what. Nothing had been done to them. Was asked to return next day. Said no. How about 1.5 hours later. I said no. watched them do the repair and waited 25 more mins. its reallly too bad I had to write this, bc its my first ever bad review of anyplace. Be forewarned. read more

Came in to alter a bridesmaids dress. I've been to other places in the city where the cost to tailor is practically the same as the dress itself, so I decided to try out a place that looked a little more affordable since I wasn't doing anything major. First problem: Was told that I would receive a call a few days before my flight to try it on, so if we need to make any changes, we had time to do so. The day came and went, didn't get a call. Called him the next morning, and he said it wasn't done yet and to come and pick it up the day I was leaving. I tell him my flight is in the afternoon, so I'm coming in the morning. I get there at around noon, and STILL NOT DONE. I come back an hour and a half before my flight, no time to try it on. Second problem: I put it on after I land, and it's unwearable. The straps were taken up more than they should have - so high that the bodice of the dress is sitting on my rib cage instead of my waist, so I can't even zip it. Obviously it wasn't sitting like this when we tacked it up at the original fitting. Clearly he threw something together last minute without a care in the world, and now, I'm left with a butchered dress having to scramble to find a new one the morning of the wedding.
