    BBQ pork bao bun

Ugly Dumpling was a random fine we found on our way out of Parsippany, NY on the way home to Syracuse, NY. Boy was it a happy find. The shop is nothing much on the outside, as part of an outlet mall-situation. The inside, however, is very trendy! The coolest part, in my opinion, is the large glass window 'lab' where you can watch the dumplings being made. Having made dumplings before, I know it's difficult, so it is mesmerizing to watch them work! The Ugly Dumpling sampler is a great way to go, however we opted to go a different route- choosing instead to try different items across the menu! We started with the spicy dumplings, which were absolutely fantastic. The perfect bite, a great sauce, and the ratio of dumpling wrapper to filling was just right. We then moved on to the bbq pork bao bun, and I had to order MORE to go. It was SOOOOO FLUFFY! I couldn't believe the cloud we were eating. My friend had a ramen bowl that she said was delightful. Our waiter was amazing. He checked on us often, had suggestions, and was a great all over. I would absolutely go back to this place!

We ordered pick up on a Saturday night and the wait wasn't bad at all. We were promised the food within 25 minutes and they came through with the order on time! Unfortunately, there's no online portal to order the pick up so we had to do it over the phone, but the woman we spoke to was very nice and patient. The restaurant was packed. Every table was taken and there was a wait outside with about 15 to 20 people, hoping for a table. I ordered the Pork, Shrimp & Spinach Dumplings and Shrimp Stir-Fried Noodles. The dumplings we of decent size and very tasty. The green color definitely stands out. The noodles were a little thicker than you typically get when you order lo mein. The bowl was also a decent size but the shrimp were small. The container held the moisture well and the dish wasn't spicy, which gets a thumbs up from me. I wish I could give this place a 4.5 stars. The experience was very good.

Really really happy with my experience here, definitely coming back ASAP! Service was very attentive and quick. Multiple staff members checked on us continuously throughout our experience. Ambiance is laid back -- you can really dress up or down, whatever you want. There's lots of seats, table booth or bar! We walked in with no rez on a Thursday and were seated immediately, and done in about an hour. The food is insane! I got vegan dumplings, and had some garlicky green beans and edamame and they were all fantastic. I want to try the vegan wontons next. My family raved about the pork fried rice and orange chicken. They won't stop talking about it! The price too was so cheap but the quality was amazing -- for 6 people it was around 150 in the end. Insane!

Have seen the ads while driving on Rt 10 in Morris plains @ ugly dumplings n thought we'd try it. It is in the strip mall w Kohl's next to it. Plenty of parking. Lovely restaurant great ambiance. Must warm you they won't seat till all ur party has arrived. So many great choices on the menu n hard to decide. We settled on the ugly dumpling sampler - 6 dumplings w different flavors. They all were good. We had the kun pao chicken n Mongolian beef. The beef was so flavorful. Enjoyed it. The kun pao checked was tasty too, Will be back again to try the d Items we missed . Tx you for a great lunch.

Stopped by Ugly Dumpling in Morris Plains and ended up with about a 2-hour wait, which was definitely the biggest downside of the night. It was pretty packed, so clearly the place is popular, but be prepared if you're planning to go during peak times. We started with the spicy chicken wontons, which unfortunately weren't spicy at all. The flavor itself was fine, but the dish didn't really live up to its name if you're expecting any real heat. The highlight was the Ugly Dumpling Sampler. It's a fun way to try a variety of dumplings without committing to just one type. Each one had a different color and style, which made the presentation really cool and added to the experience. Service was also a plus. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and helped guide us through the options, which made ordering much easier given how many dumplings they offer. Overall, some hits and some misses. The sampler and service stood out, but the long wait and lack of spice in the wontons kept the experience from being great.

My friend is a goodie and like to try new places. This outpost of the small ugly dumpling chain is undertaking a "soft" opening but heated to try it. To our surprise, the services was good (Hugh was great) and the food was also a surprise. My friend has pork buns and gave them 8 out of 10, comparing them to his favorites in Chinatown. We both had a fantastic dish, sesame noodles. This was a generous serving, At $9 a bargain and a dish that will bring me back. I'm rating 4 stars because of the soft opening but a 5 star may in their future. Stay tuned!

Ugly Dumpling is a must visit for dumpling lovers. The food is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Their dumplings are perfectly cooked with generous fillings, and the dipping sauces add just the right kick. My personal favorite was the Szechuan Pork Soup Dumplings -- rich, savory, and packed with flavor. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, though it does get busy during peak hours. I visited with coworkers, and everyone genuinely enjoyed everything we ordered. In addition to what's pictured, we also had the String Beans with Garlic, Cream Cheese Rangoon, and the Ugly Dumpling Sampler. We ordered a great variety of dishes to share, and every single one delivered. If you're craving delicious dumplings and a fun, shareable dining experience, this spot is definitely worth a visit.

This is definitely a welcome addition to Morris Plains! I think it's one of the first dim sum style eateries to open in the area. We're here for it! The space is large and inviting. There's an open air dining room, a bar area with seats and lots of private booths in the back. The menu is big with all of the dim sum classics like soup dumplings, pork buns, scallion pancakes and much more. You can also find a wide selection of soups, rices and noodle dishes, meat entrees, veggie sides and much more. What we tried: + Garlic beans. A MUST. So flavorful and a big hit with my kids. + Braised beef noodle soup. The soup itself was extremely flavorful, and it came with lots of noodles and meat. The actual meat was a bit hard and dry. I wish it was pulled instead of whole. + Pork soup dumplings. This is their signature item and they definitely delivered. + BBQ Pork Buns. Fluffy perfection. A little heavy on the dough, but the filling was delicious. + Chicken fried rice. This is a good kids dish since it's pretty bland, and it came with lots of large chunks of white meat chicken. We really enjoyed this meal and I'm excited to come back and try more. Only deducting a star because they are definitely dealing with some opening kinks in the service. We did not receive a few items from our order. A few we cancelled, and the rest they were able to bring out to-go. They also comped a few items from our bill which was much appreciated. These things happen when you are a new business and one of your first days is Valentine's Day AND Saturday! A few other things to note: + BYOB + Reservations are taken on the weekdays via call ahead, on a weekend you'll need to go and leave your name. + They have a very clear allergy menu. We don't take our daughter out for Asian food often since she is allergic to sesame. It was incredibly helpful to have an allergy menu, and she really enjoyed her sesame free chicken fried rice

We gave this place a try and it was pretty decent. I ordered so many different items because I wanted to try it all! I got the soup dumpling which was a first time for me having it. I also Got the pork dumpling which are steamed ( I prefer fried) and the Mongolian beef with white rice. I prefer the beef to be a bit crispy and this wasn't. It wasn't bad it just wasn't what I expected, my kids loved the Boba tea and honey lemonade. My wife got the chicken and broccoli and she liked it. The Bao buns were good too. Our waiter was really friendly and helpful with my daughter's allergy. They bring you an allergen sheet so you know exactly what's in every food item that you order, inside was very clean and modern. Definitely give it a try,

Great new place in Morris Plains! It just opened a few days ago and we loved stopping in for dinner. Our waiter was fabulous, the hostess was super friendly and the staff came over often to check in on us too. The food was delicious - ( more family style) we had all kinds of dumplings, soup dumplings, noodles, vegetables, and more. Prices were very reasonable and nice upbeat pleasant atmosphere. Also, I ***loved*** that they asked about any allergies we had and even gave me a chart to verify if it was safe for us to eat certain dishes. We will definitely be back to this great addition to the area. Thx again for a terrific night!

Last minute plans on a late Sunday and was surprised by the quality of the food. I enjoyed the appetizer and everything tasted made to order. Service was fast and the server was polite. The place is brand new and nice looking. Next time I visit I won't go forty minutes before closing because the crew usually cleans the restaurant at that time.

Finally got to check out Ugly Dumpling in Morris Plains. Went here for lunch because every time we tried going for dinner there was a long wait. The decor was nice and modern, you can even see the dumplings being made through a glass window. We ordered Ugly Bao Bun, Salt & Pepper Popcorn Chicken, Noodles with Sesame Sauce and finally the Soup Dumplings (Szechuan Pork). Walter our server was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the Szechuan Pork dumplings but the rest was mediocre. It's a nice addition to the area though.

The food was good but nothing special in my opinion. Thought the soup dumplings could use more flavor and felt it lacked in taste without the chili oil. Would go back though and try other dishes

Braised beef noodle soup (not good), soup dumplings & steamed buns (excellent)
