Is it the best Thai food in the world, no, is it a good filling meal in a nice environment with good prices and a nice happy hour? Yes. I've tried much from the menu at Udom Thai and the food in general is rather mediocre. The main mistake I've done more than once is ordering food from them. The last 5 times in a row they never had my order right ( giving me meat instead of vegetables -when being a vegetarian- etc.). They always messed up things with the order every once in a while but after 3 times in row I said I will never eat and order there again. I forgot about it...ordered again and same thing happened. Excellent food & service..thrilled I found this THAI GEM right in my neighborhood..just moved to Prospect Heights, Brooklyn from California & my family & I couldn't be HAPPIER! Places like UDOM Thai makes this feel like home even more! Now about the YUMMY food..I had the Rama Queen (peanut sauce) dish w/ Chicken & my 8 year old daughter had the Pad See Ew noodle dish..we were both head over heels in LOVE & had to stop ourselves from eating it ALL since the portions were rather large, especially for the reasonable prices! Also, we were thrilled to find they have Coconut rice (NOT sticky rice) as a side order..we were SOLD after seeing that since most Thai restaurants don't offer this option outside of it being a dessert sticky rice option. Ohhh & the Curry puff & Shrimp w/ Chicken Dumplings were nothing short of AMAZING! The food at Udom was disappointing. The good news is that their green papaya salad was alright. The dressing veered on the sweet side, but there was nice acid and fish sauce to balance it out. I would have preferred more chilies in the salad, however. The bad news is that their pad thai was one of the blandest dishes I've ever had the misfortune to eat, even though I ordered "spicy." The noodles were the palest shade of pink with hardly any sauce or flavor. I had asked for chicken and the chicken slices were overcooked and smelled old. They dumped a heap of bean sprouts on top of the dish, which did not help with the bland flavor. However, if you hate cilantro, go to Udom, because there was nary a cilantro leaf to be found on my pad thai. The spring rolls were ok, but there was a faint trace of a chemical taste to them. They were probably old or purchased in bulk. The spring roll sauce also had a weird after taste to them. I wouldn't be surprised if the sauce was a store bought one. The coconut pudding was a disaster. It was covered in oil and the pudding was greasy. I did not taste anything other than the oil. I just can't see myself going back to Udom and my search for a decent Thai place continues. read more

I hate to give such a bad review of this place because we used to love it two months ago. We decided to order delivery from here last night and it was unfortunately very disappointing. It not only was delivered late but when we opened the bag everything was open and spilled. I called the restaurant and the woman explained how she cannot initiate a refund. She then said she would send us only one additional dish when both mine and my friends food were spilled and in the bottom of the bag. Bad. Ordered delivery of pad thai with chicken and a whole fried fish with chili sauce. The pad thai had zero flavor, no sweetness, no tang, no fish sauce, no nothing. The fried fish, when delivered, comes dry and the sauce comes on the side. The fish had almost no meat on it, and was essentially a charred pile of bones and fish head with breading on it. The sauce was a sweet and syrupy glop, hardly appetizing when served in a styrofoam container. Udom is also not cheap. I believe this crappy meal ran over $30 after tax and tip. Avoid. read more

Have only gotten delivery from here, and as other reviewers have mentioned, this place is a long-awaited addition to the neighborhood! The menu is surprisingly extensive, with some very traditional thai dishes including green papaya and green mango salad. Tom Yum Soup - no skimping here! full-flavored broth, not too salty, chock full of chicken (or shrimp or tofu), bell peppers and thinly sliced onions. Pad Thai - delicate flavors as it should be, not too greasy. almost not greasy enough, as the noodles stick together a bit. Curry - all good. a lot of depth, and again, well stocked. comes with a side of rice. Fancy Pad Thai Duck - hahaha....finally caved and HAD to splurge and get this. i mean...."fancy" pad thai?! well, the menu described crispy duck, but i actually found it to be deep fried to death and dry hell. also, served with glass noodles rather than the traditional flat pad thai noodles. curiosity satisfied. Spicy Basil Noodle (Drunken Noodle) - impressive savoriness on the noodles, and they don't kid when calling this dish "Spicy". this is my jam! we order from here so much that they know our phone number and we have become pals with our delivery guy (who is oh so nice!). we usually take in when the weather is crappy and we're craving consistent thai food. i stick with my usual veggie dumplings (which i swear down are made with pork--i've called numerous times to confirm it's tofu--being vegan and all!), veggie spring rolls and rama queen. my boyfriend loves the tom kar soup and pad thai. as for delivery...right now their record is 8 minutes. a little scary to get food that fast but we have decided their so speedy because they're just waiting for us to call!! read more

this is my second thai restaurant in brooklyn after spending six weeks gorging on all sorts of curry and rice and papaya salad in thailand. it wasn't that bad. in fact it was pretty good. having dinner by myself, i ordered the papaya salad--i asked for it spicy, it's not listed that way on the menu--and a chicken penang curry. while the rice was a bit lacking in portion size, the rest of the meal delivered. the penang curry was sweet and spicy, but not too hot. it was just right. the papaya salad delivered as well. sweet and spicy--are you catching what i like about thai food?--and the vegetables were crunchy and the salad well made. service was nice, taking about ten minutes...they beat me from a 2 block bike ride. amazing. plus, the servers are thai or have been well trained in the thai language...at least the thai language i know--hello, thank you, and goodbye. read more

We've ordered four things from Udom -- spicy basil noodle, crispy duck salad, cucumber salad and tuk-tuk roll -- and were very impressed with the quality of the food. Don't expect mind-blowing Thai food -- but it's heads above any other Thai in Park Slope or environs. Loved the tuk-tuk roll, which combines roti, curry, and a burrito into one dish. So, I gave this place another shot during a post-Sandy Thai craving. Went with a group of friends (4 in total) and fortunately we were in a very good mood. If you want to avoid details of this experience, the service was beyond horrible. Now the details... We arrived when the place was almost full and a couple waitresses running around. We noticed a table of 4 left and we didn't want that to get taken so we kept a close-eye on it. After a while we decided to just bus it ourselves because nobody even glanced at the dirty table. We ordered beers at the bar and cleared off the tables ourselves. After we finished, a waitress ran over to us and gave us our menus. We told her it wasn't a problem (even though she didn't apologize in the slightest). Our group continued to talk and have a good time until I realized the sun was going down and we still hadn't ordered yet. I looked around and the waitress was wiping down 3 clear tables and fixing chairs. Clearly not noticing that we have been sitting around. I told our table to gather our menus and at least look like we want to eat, giving the lady the benefit of the doubt that she didn't want to interrupt. Still more time passed and nothing. So I went to the bar, got a pen and had everyone write their order on a napkin, including another round since we had dry bottles for a while, and gave it to the waitress who looked confused. While waiting for our food, after we got our other round, we wanted some water, but since the waitress wasn't around, we had to go up to the bar and order a round of waters. The food came and it was great! Everything was really good and we were all satisfied. That is actually why they get 2 stars instead of 1. We get our bill without any consideration of dessert, so I didn't get a chance to tell them that I had a $25 gift certificate (I redeem on my phone during dinner) before giving us the bill. I told them that I had the deal and I went up to the manager with the waitress. The manager took the phone, annoyed, and muttered to the waitress that this was the last gift certificate she will accept. The original bill was $105, the final bill was $105 plus a mandatory 20% tip, minus the $25. We weren't planning on tipping any more than 10% percent because there were only 2 other tables by the time we bussed our own table. But whatever. We asked about our happy hour beers and they told us that it didn't apply to us because of the GC. It was a blatant lie because we didn't get the happy hour price even before I told them about the GC. We never argued or were mean because we still were in a good mood. Just slightly irritated. But we were full. That will be my last visit there and I hope management will FINALLY learn how to hire quality workers or do something different because based on my experiences, Udom doesn't deserve any walk-in business. read more

Came here for a quick bite to eat with hubs, it was empty so we decided to dine in.Ordered our food,drinks were at happy hour prices so we got 2 beers for $5 (no Heineken ).10 mikes later our food came out the female at the bar was also our waiter she was really sweet . I ordered drunken noodles with shrimp and hubs ordered udom Thai basil shrimp ! The shrimp in my drunken noodles was really bland i took three bites and was full I was so turned off by the flavor. Hubs added alot of hot sauce to his for flavor .Anyhow he got an order to go while waiting we decided to get the check . total was 52.12 paid 60.00 cash and a guy returned the change , we left a 4.88 tip ! he picked up the basket and asked was the food OK? im like it was just okay , why? he responded you must leave a minimum of 15% tip or else you have to talk with my boss , me.. excuse me ? im like how about no tip? I've eaten here a few times and I am surprised by some of the 2 & 3 star reviews. Nonetheless after having ordered take out a few times after pilates class I brought my husband for dinner one night for a change of pace and he was very impressed with the food. The owner/managers are very kind and knowledgeable in describing how the food is prepared. I like the set up and the hokey lighting. I found everything to be fresh and delightful. Some of my favorites are the spring rolls and calamari as starters. For a main course I enjoy the beef dish with ginger, also the fried rice and their soups. I've been here a couple times and this visit will be the last. There's little to be said about the food and even less about the service other than bad and slow but I'll go into detail. I remember the first time my bf and I stumbled on this place the service was absolutely terrible. Extremely slow and inattentive with maybe three other tables in the whole place. There was a party of about 5 that left about 20 minutes after we had arrived, they had kids so their table was a mess when they left, none of the wait staff came to bus it for about a good 25/30 minutes after the party left, instead they elected to talk with each other in the back. When the food finally came it was just one of the entrees I had to wait and extra 15 minutes before my food came out. I felt bad that my bf had to sit there and watch his food get cold before I got mine. This was the first time we ate here, why we venture back is beyond me. Their Massaman curry was ok, slightly burnt with the nuts but overall doable for the price. This last visit was starting off to be the same waiting game. It was the afternoon maybe 3pm and there was about two other tables, one guy at the bar dinning in I assume and one chick at the bar waiting for her pick up. Not busy at all. So when Ed and I sit down, I'm expecting a receptive staff member or maybe even the bartender to bring us out some menus and possible water to start us off. We sat and waited and only until the table next to us waves at the bartender to order is when I get the opportunity to just ask for the basics of dining in, this took about seven to ten minutes. He was then super apologetic as if he had no clue that the table literally five steps from the bar and fully visible hadn't be greeted, when he was looking in our direction the whole time. We get our waters and menus promptly after that. The service wasn't nearly as bad as it had been the first time, though I wish it started from the beginning. The food though, ugh, terrible. The app was the Samoa Triangles and they left a weird after taste to me, they were kinda greasy too. I don't know what it was about them but I just couldn't stomach them, my boyfriend didn't have any qualms about it though. My main entree was the Pad Thai and it was just off. There were these foreign black specs all over the place and it was too big to be black pepper and I've never really seen this in any Pad Thai I've ever had before, I'm pretty sure it was from the pan and I told the waitress. She brought it to the back and came back and informed me that it was just char from the vegetables... but the funny thing is my vegetables weren't burnt. So it's either you admitting to serving me burnt food or you are reusing an unwashed fry pan that is flaking old bits of caked on burnt particles into my food or you know it could just be bits of the pan itself in my food either way this is all unappetizing. Besides the black stuff in my food, the taste itself was off. I didn't finish and will never go back to give it another try. Had a real hankering for fish w red curry but the lady at Thai 101 on Fulton St. would not comply (and I know I've ordered it there in the past. No worries, their loss. I went to Yelp on my iPhone (yay!!!) and found this little gem. There were quite a few bad reviews, but fortunately I didn't read them until AFTER I ordered. All in all, I was quite pleased with my whole striped bass with Panang sauce. The sauce was a little thin (not quite Rice quality), but very tasty. And thin IS probably better for you. I'll be back because it's much closer to my forelorn area of Bed-Stuy than Rice (in Park Slope). My partner had the Squid in Panang. Spicier than the fish but just the way we like it! Grabbed lunch here on a Sunday, even though there were a lot of mediocre reviews a friend was craving Thai. The space is open airy, and inviting, and while it's not the best Thai I ever ate, it did the trick. Service was prompt and friendly, an the portions were generous and the food was flavorful. Considering the lack of other Thai restaurants in the area I'll be back. I must say I'm not a Thai food connoisseur, but this place hits the spot EVERY TIME. Prices aren't bad, food is about average (nothing fancy), atmosphere is nice (nothing extravagant), and the service is friendly enough.
