I had a nightmarish experience at another bike shop where my custom Surly Pacer build w/ Ultegra was put together. I've been bringing my Surly to UC Cyclery to get all of these issues sorted out. Brought in my rear wheel for a broken spoke nipple. I called ahead of time, spoke to Abe, and he assured me that they'd be able to make an exception and fix it in a 2 hour time window. I came to the shop, and Abe came over to the service department to fill them in. I really felt like I was treated with respect. Jon fixed my wheel, and sure enough it was done in 2 hours. The wheel has been great since. Also, Jon was very good in communicating to me the condition of the wheel and things he found while he was fixing it, and procedures he used to fix the problem. I really like being filled in with details rather than just "OK it's done". A week later I brought in my bike for what was a problem in that the bike never shifted precisely from when it was new. I spoke to Bob (I think he's the service manager). Very communicative and professional guy. He filled me in on all of the details as to why shifting might me lousy - the incorrect shifter cables (thanks to the other bike shop that put my bike together), incorrect chain, and incorrect routing of cables on the handlebar. They gave me an estimate that the bike would be completed by 4:00 next day, but I got the phone call at 11:00. I'm very happy that they fixed my bike on time, and the work they did made a huge difference in shifting precision. These guys were extremely communicative in describing the problem and procedure to fix the problem. The only negative experience I had was that a water bottle cage took 2 weeks to order, when they promised it would take 1 week. Not a huge deal, just a minor annoyance. This bike shop also supports a local bike club, SDBC. I'm happy that I found a bike shop that cares about my bike as much as I do. If you have an expensive race bike and need things to be perfect on your bike, I'd recommend UC Cyclery. read more

I recently bought a women's Specialized bike from UC Cyclery. Edwin was my sales person and he was very knowledgable about the Specialized brand and also the Trek women's bicycle I was looking at. He did a head to head comparison, looking at the components on each bicycle and also comparing price. No hard sell- but friendly, patient, and knowledgable. The service I have received since purchasing my bike from UC Cyclery has been excellent. They even adjusted my bike rack to make it easier for me to mount and remove it off my car. The biggest selling point was the Lifetime Free Tune Ups. I think I would have been just as happy with the Trek bike but the service at Specialized can't be beat. I love my new road bike and have even joined the SDBC Saturday ride that leaves from the parking lot at UC Cyclery. I know that the staff at UC Cyclery will take great care of me and my bike each time I go in and I unreservedly recommend them to friends. read more

I bought a very expensive bike here, but it it turned out to be a very faulty piece of crapola. I brought it back three times for repairs, and the mechanic did a fabulous job and was very experienced. The fourth time the bike malfunctioned, I had had enough. I asked if I could return it. The staff said they want me to be happy, and offered to replace the shifters, cables, and entire drivetrain, and I said, thanks, but I would be happy if I could return it. They said okay and were happy to give me a full refund. Awesome staff. I just picked the wrong bike. This is a great bike shop. Buy a bike here and they will take care of you no matter what. read more

I bought a Stumpjumper back in Dec 12 and all the goodies to go with it. Edwin helped me from the get go and knew everything regarding all the bikes. I brought the bike in for its first tune up and the tech took it out for a test run and didn't like the way my forks were rebounding. He called up Fox and got me a new set of forks no charge. I never would have known anything was wrong! I've since bought an S-Works Stumpjumper which Edwin again helped me out with. Great place to buy a bike or go for repairs. I was in town for a conference and had an afternoon spare as I was catching the red eye to NY. The concierge at the Estanica La Jolla recommended I try these guys as i wanted a road bike not a hybrid. Hands down, i received some of the friendliest , most courteous and professional service I have experienced. Id forgotten my ID, but Dave the owner just waived that requirement and off I went for a 45 mile ride along the coast. I'm new to the area and needed to get my bike fixed. One of my friends who is a rider recommended this place to me since he comes here regularly. When I walked in I was surprised with how neat and organized the store was. I've been to several bike stores and they are usually a mess. The employees seemed very professional and welcoming. Dave was the one who helped me out and he answered all the questions I had and gave me helpful tips. I bought my fourth carbon fiber bike about 4 months ago and have been in and out of U C Cyclery since then. I have a good feel for my new favorite bike shop! Edwin sold me the the Expert SL4 after understanding what I need from a bike. Every time I see him he recognizes me and follows up on my satisfaction. The mechanic shop consistently seems busy. The mechanic I work with Allister, is organized and competent and always has my bike ready before I expect. Bob, who works behind the counter is very helpful. He has most of the products himself already, so he passes on his first hand knowledge to you. read more

I do not agree those who wrote bad reviews. As you know, these kinds of review systems are sneaky Yelp's strategy. Good reviews are filtered out and never show up. Only bad reviews are reflected to the public users. That results the Owner needs to pay for Yelp and can manage its reviews. So, I do not believe the reviews here in Yelp's, a m-f-er company. This review might be filtered as well. Just think with your common sense, How many customers who do not write good review are in the public!!! I really love the UC Cyclery. The staff, are knowledgeable and nice. I often drop by just to buy gels and ask them questions. Although, I bought a (relatively) cheap bike from them, they still spent a ton of time with me, as I mulled my decision over many visits. I have had work done on bike from them as well. Every time the work has been high quality. Many bike shops in SD seem snobbish, and will only pay attention to you if you are dropping serious $$$, but UC Cyclery does not have that annoying attitude. Edwin was a huge help. The shop didn't sell some of the bikes I wanted to check out before pulling the trigger and he got online to figure out which components they came with. He had me ride half a dozen bikes with the same components as the competing brands. I didn't like any of them quite as much as those on the 2012 Specialized Tricross I had gravitated to. UCC is seriously as good as it gets. Their patient employees are eager to help and are extremely accomodating. I just had a spill on my bike, bending the handlings and messing up the gears. It was about there closing time around 8, but UCC stayed open for me and fixed my bike that same night. I have never had a bad experience. I always feel welcome and learn more about bikes every time I go. I'm super thankful to have this bike shop so close! read more
