I had a drive train "noise" that I eventually narrowed down to the cranks/bottom bracket. Made an appointment and took the bike in on a Wednesday (told the shop I couldn't pick it up till Friday or later). On Thursday afternoon they called and said the bike was ready for pick up. When I picked up my bike on Friday, Jason explained the BB needed a full overhaul and the exterior corrosion removed. It feels better and no noise! And the cost was very reasonable. read more

Out on ride and my buddy who had a very loose pedal. We just happened to be close to this shop, so stopped in figuring we just needed a wrench to tighten the pedal. Turns out the pedal had stripped the treads in the crank. I figured he might need a whole new crank, but the shop owner, Kevin, fixes it installing a helicoil for $35 in about 45 minutes! And he was super nice offering coffee and donuts and even took some time to talk cycling too! The shop itself has a wide selection of bikes, including custom fit frames. It's the only place I would take my Colnago, they know the product inside and out. Check them out for a new ride. Their selection of new and used high end bikes is mind blowing at a small fraction of the original price! Rich dudes with money to burn are addicted to the new stuff so they are constantly trading up, resulting in the killer selection and prices. If you want new, they are stacked with a great line up. I made a recent call to the shop to ask about a used part I was searching for . Whoever answered the phone said he didn't have time to search for the part but I should send them an email with my request and they would get back to me via email . I live across the street and have come in several times to get random things for my bike (light, tools, etc) and they are always extremely helpful and genuine with their advice and product suggestions. Did you know that it's easier in most cities to find enriched uranium on the black market than it is to find a great selection of high quality women's cycling shorts? That's why you gotta do your shopping at this place in La Jolla. They have amazing brands and styles like I've never seen anywhere (and you know I'm looking e'rywhere I go around the world) If you are spendy and built like a supermodel you can even wear Assos and find it here. I went for the Castelli, Giordana and Danny Shane although there was a lot more that tempted me. Also scored a new bike helmet and the owner and I both agreed one of the cheaper ones was actually the best fit. The people in this shop-owner, clerk and mechanic all have hearts of gold. It's my dream to have a Specialized Tarmac but if I lived in La Jolla , I would ride a Felt (like my bike snob/racing brother) because this would be my shop. I found my local bike shop! Highly recommend California Bicycle for their customer service, communication, and the overall in-person shopping experience. They care about their customers! I've been to a lot of bike stores around San Diego and most have forgotten what customer service is. I know times are rough with getting parts/bikes but that's no reason to be short with customers as we're all frustrated too. Most "other" bike shops have staff that need to be reminded of that but I didn't experience this when dealing with California Bicycles and their staff. Again, it's apparent that they care about their customers. I'm about 40 minutes from California Bicycles. There are a lot of bike shops half that distance from me but wouldn't think twice about making the longer commute. I've been finding it a waste of time visiting other shops and getting the support/products I need. Hope this helps someone out there find their local bike shop too. read more

Horrible service! I went in with my bike to see about getting a repair. The guy, looking annoyed, responded "well it'll be expensive!" And so I asked, "Could you give me an estimate?" And he responded "I just did" I was shocked. So I asked if I had offended him somehow and he just looked at me and said "I don't know why you'd say that" and I responded "you aren't being very friendly" and with that he told me to leave and walked away and disappeared down the stairs...I stood there aghast. I'd come here so many times before and never had someone be so awful and rude. I won't be coming here a levee again. I suggest to anyone in La Jolla find another bike shop. These guys are the best! They check all the boxes, knowledge, friendly, great inventory and brands. They get great support from their vendors too, which can be critical for post sale support. I started riding on Saturdays with these guys as I was reintroducing my son to road riding and ended up joining every Saturday. Such a fun and friendly group. I finally was able to pay them back for all the bagels my son has eaten on Saturday mornings and bought a Litespeed Gravel adventure bike! Let me walk away looking for a random place to lock my bike up for 10 mins! What kinda service is that for a bike shop! Didnt spend a dollar and would never go back. Walked in younger guy sitting on his ass, gets up cant find part for my bike. I explain i just rode 20 miles and got a flat, at 4:15pm... I ask what time the shop closes he states 6pm, I ask if i can lock my bike out side in order to catch a ride home and pick up my vehicle to get the bike. My car is 10 mins away. He walks to the front of the store and is zero help, says theres no where to lock it up for 10 mins. Lets me walk away with my bike walking down the street looking for a random place to lock my bike up. What a a dick ! What kinda bike shop does that! Jason helped me find some really great jerseys and accessories and Also served me an expresso and overall it was a wonderful experience. But when I got home and looked at the receipt I noticed and additional $15 charge it was called a non cash 2.95 percent charge. Needless to say that was disappointing and it felt shady after spending $500 in accessories.I think supporting small businesses is very important but also being transparent about charging a customer $15 for a non cash payment is important and a huge turn off! read more

I LOVE this area! Fun So Cal beach vibes. Met Kevin and Jason today. By far, one of the coolest bike shops I've come across. Super friendly, professional, and an awesome crew and beyond the BEST help I've experienced!!! Really close to the beach. Parking spaces are in front of the shop in a small shopping lot. When you see Baskin Robbins, it's just past their lot. The Baskins lot even has 15 min and 45 min parking if you can't find a spot right in front of California Bicycle. Shop is immaculate and organized well. Everything just looks so cool here. The guys were busy, but I was immediately greeted and helped. Their shop takes a lot of care in their customer service and in educating their visitors; also exceptional in the quality of their shop. It really shows from the minute you enter their bike service area in the back to the showroom floor. They really set the bar high when it comes to this sport. It reminds me why I love being a part of this industry when I meet crews like California Bicycle. Their dedication and love for the sport is infectious. Look forward to returning! read more
