Teddy after getting groomed
Joanna P.

Daniel, the owner is one of the nicest and kindest people that always welcomes us with a smile. I have a labradoodle that is 2 years old. He has been suffering from ear infection since he was a puppy. We were at the Vets every 8 weeks. Since I started bringing my dog to UC Barkley, my dog hasn't had one ear infection. It has been over 6 months now that he has been getting groomed there. Daniel always listens to how I want my dog groomed . He does an amazing job and he's super fast too! My dogs leaves happy and I do too! I am so happy to have found this place.

Never bringing my dogs here again Unfortunately, I didn't see the other Pomeranian review from 3 months ago to show me that this place has no idea what to do with long haired dogs. All they do here is shave dogs apparently. I have two pomskys and they are basically mini huskies with very full coats. Brought my dogs here for a trim and now all of their hair is gone. When I came to pick them up the guy said he'd never actually seen a pomsky before and then he brought out my shaved pups. I don't think this is an excuse for shaving their entire coat. I literally felt sick to my stomach when I saw them. And it's not even a consistent cut. It's uneven and some long hairs still around their ears. I had seen other pics of fluffy dogs on here before and they looked cute so I thought they knew what they were doing but they absolutely do not. An expensive lesson learned, but won't be making the same mistake again.

Dnaiel and his staff did an absolute fabulous job on our Luna. We were very nervous since it was his first grooming at a place. Luna is a 3 year old Mini Golden Doodle who needed a good shaping since it became too difficult to do it ourselves. Daniel and the lady that was there (forgot her name...sorry!) treated Luna just like his own and we look forward to Luna's next grooming and boarding. We highly recommend this shop and we believe you will be highly satisfied with the price and the exceptional service and care of your pet! Keep up the amazing job! Thank you!!

My mom found UCbarkley maybe 2 years ago or so and we are ALWAYS happy with their service. The owner, Daniel, is considerate on how I like my Coco groomed. Gone to others and they always leave her too long. He makes sure our babies are up to date on their vaccines so they can have play time instead of being in a kennel after they're done with their appointment. She always has a big smile on her face after coming back. They take cash only but it keeps the fees low. Would recommend over and over again! Thank you UC Barkley!

My girl had her first day of grooming school with the amazing Daniel!! Thank you so much for the best service and cutest cut ever!! She was so happy with her spa treatment. Daniel and his wife make the best team! I have no idea what they did but her fur is softer than it's ever been and she smells amazing! This was her first time with other pups as she is fully vaccinated and they updated me to let me know how she did. Will def be back for future and all cuts and grooming!

I brought my dog, Pepper, to get a bath and brush. Most places charge 60-80 bucks for a 30 pound dog. At that price point, I'd rather do it myself. We paid 35 bucks, which was totally worth it. They threw in a trim around the eyes for free. If they keep it at this price point, I'll definitely keep going. We went to lunch and came back with a clean fluffy dog. The owners are a cute husband/wife couple (I assume) and they are very friendly. They gave an eta of 30 minutes. We had lunch plans so we asked if we could pick her up in 2 hours. They called us back at the hour mark. We were still at lunch and they happily held onto her. Apparently, they also took some pictures of her too! Highly recommended!

Goldendoodle grooming

We have taken our goldendoodle to UC Barkley for grooming twice. Both grooming sessions have resulted in great haircuts. In past haircuts, our goldendoodle's face comes out a bit off, but Daniel trims our dog's face nice and clean. I like how clean our dog looks after he is groomed here. We have taken our dog to a few other grooming salons, but we are going to continue coming here.

He cut off her beautiful neck/chest hair. You don't do this on this type of hair.

I can't even.. I don't think this person had any idea what to do with a golden retriever? If they'd just been upfront about that, I wouldn't be leaving this review. We even gave him direction / told him we don't even really "cut" her hair so much as trim it up so that it's not scraggly. He must have cut off 9+ inches around her chest/neck, where she has (had) beautiful showdog hair. He shaped it short like you would on a curly hair dog like a poodle or something. The result on a wavy long-hair dog is a lumpy mess. The tail is also half gone, which is also something you just shouldn't do. It will take almost a year to grow her tail back. We've taken her to numerous groomers over the years but never had a problem like this. This might be a nice place to take your bichon frise or poodle. Don't take your golden retriever. Leaving 2 stars instead of 1 just because they were nice.

UC Barkley always does an amazing job with our fur baby. Wink can be a handful but they love her anyway and we love them. Thank you Daniel.

OC Paw House

It pains me deeply to write this review, but I believe our experience needs to be shared with other…read moredog owners who may be considering leaving their pets with a dog daycare or boarding provider. It has been exactly one month since we lost our beloved French Bulldog, Louie, to heat stroke after leaving him with OC Paw House in Tustin, California. We dropped Louie off at approximately 9:05 a.m. for what was supposed to be a four-hour half-day visit. The purpose was simply to see how well he interacted with the other dogs before we considered boarding him there for a week later in September. I believed I had done my due diligence as a responsible pet owner. The business had more than 100 five-star reviews, and I could not find even a single review below five stars. They also had many photos of french bulldogs on their social media. That gave me a great deal of confidence in leaving Louie in their care. Unfortunately, what happened that morning is something our family will live with forever. At 11:33 a.m., I received a photo and text showing Louie with several other dogs. In the photo, what appeared to be Louie's vomit was clearly visible near his front paws. When I later examined the photo more carefully, I noticed that it had been taken at approximately 10:18 a.m. That timeline is extremely important. Wendy, the owner, later told me that Louie was having difficulty with the heat while at an unshaded dog park on an approximately 81-degree day. She said that after about 5-10 minutes, they decided to take him back to the house. The house is approximately an eight-minute drive from the dog park. Yet I did not receive a phone call telling me that Louie was in serious distress until approximately 11:45 a.m. I was then told that he was not breathing. That leaves me with a question I still cannot get past: What happened between approximately 10:18 a.m., when Louie was apparently already showing signs of distress, and the time I was finally contacted? As Louie's owner, it is devastating to think that he may have been struggling for an extended period of time without receiving the urgent intervention he needed. In my opinion, what happened demonstrates a serious lack of training, judgment, and emergency preparedness. This is especially troubling because Wendy told me that she owns or has owned a French Bulldog and understands that Frenchies do not tolerate heat well. Brachycephalic breeds such as French Bulldogs are widely known to be particularly vulnerable to overheating. Afterward, I obtained a report from OC Animal Care. Based on my reading of that report, I learned information about the business and its licensing status that I did not know when I entrusted Louie to their care. The report also contains statements regarding overnight boarding and the individuals who provide dog-walking services that, in my view, do not match my understanding of how the business was represented or operated. I encourage anyone considering this business--or any dog daycare or boarding provider--to verify its licensing, insurance, training, emergency procedures, supervision practices, and experience caring for your specific breed. Do not rely solely on online reviews. I wish I had known to ask more questions. Louie was not just our dog. He was part of our family, and losing him this way has been heartbreaking. I am writing this review because I cannot change what happened to Louie, but perhaps sharing our experience will cause another dog owner to ask the questions I wish I had asked--and potentially prevent another family from experiencing the loss that ours has endured.

August 11th The Day We Lost Louie…read more Our six-year-old French Bulldog, Louie, died from heatstroke just two and a half hours into what we were told would be a four-hour trial day at this daycare. We were told the purpose of the trial was simply to see whether Louie could get along with other dogs. We were never told that he would be taken to a dog park or participate in strenuous outdoor activity. We chose this daycare because the owner told us she owns a French Bulldog herself, and because the daycare had very good reviews. We trusted that our French Bulldog would be understood and properly cared for. What happened that day is something we will never forget. 9:00 AM -- We dropped Louie off for his four-hour trial. 9:30 AM -- Just 30 minutes later, Louie was taken to a dog park for outdoor activity without our knowledge. We had never been told that he would be taken off the daycare premises or to a dog park. The temperature that day ranged from approximately 77°F to 85°F. 10:18 AM -- According to the daycare, Louie vomited after the activity. We were not informed when it happened. 11:30 AM -- More than an hour after he vomited, we received a photo of his vomit. At the same time, we were communicating about payment and completing a reservation for his future stay. We were given no indication that Louie was experiencing a potentially life-threatening emergency. 11:45 AM -- We received a phone call telling us that Louie was not breathing. 12:00 PM -- Louie was pronounced dead from heatstroke. Our dog went into the daycare alive and healthy at 9:00 AM. By noon, he was dead. What is especially devastating is what we learned afterward. We were told that they had never seen Louie breathing so heavily before. We were also told that they had tried giving him water, but he was vomiting. For a French Bulldog, excessive panting, vomiting, and difficulty breathing in hot conditions can be serious warning signs of overheating and heatstroke. French Bulldogs are particularly vulnerable to heat because of their shortened airways and difficulty cooling themselves efficiently through panting. Yet during the critical period when Louie was apparently struggling, we received no immediate warning and no update about his condition. The owner was also not present at the daycare at the time. We later learned that she had a doctor's appointment, which contributed to a delay in communication. While the adults were dealing with schedules, appointments, and communication, Louie was suffering--and we knew nothing. This was supposed to be a simple four-hour trial to see whether Louie could socialize with other dogs. We never agreed to have him taken to a dog park in temperatures reaching 85°F. We never imagined that he would be subjected to strenuous outdoor activity in hot weather. We are devastated that Louie was placed in this situation while in someone else's care. We trusted this daycare because we believed they understood French Bulldogs. That trust was shattered in the worst possible way. Louie was in their care. We trusted them to keep him safe. We expected him to come home. He never did. Louie was not just a dog. He was part of our family, and we will never get him back.

Dave is always available for our questions and follow ups, and he sends over progress notes and photos every day from training sessions. We also would ask him about problem behavior such as counter surfing or jumping up on people to greet, and Dave would target those specific behaviors as well. We also appreciated how fast and quickly they acted on our puppy swallowing something he shouldn't have, and immediately gave him some hydrogen peroxide to get him to throw it up, which saved us from extremely expensive and likely traumatic vet visits and possible surgery. Before he was return the second time, the staff told me he had a "little accident" and asked if I wanted him bathed or just wiped down. After already waiting an extra 1.5 hours because of the cut operational hours, I said just wiped down him down and I'll bath him later. It was clearly not a little accident and wasn't even wiped down. The attendant brought him out less than a minute later. Wiping down a dirty, poop covered dog would take longer than one minute. The extent of the odor took 3 baths and he is now dealing with multiple stomach issues results in vomiting and diarrhea. He also was returned with a clearly visible scab and swelling on his nose. Trying to contact management has been extremely disappointing after a very disappointing 12 hr dog boarding visit. The asst. manager seemed to be the only one to take the time to respond and discuss these issues, but very limited to how she can remedy or alleviate some of these issues. I have been waiting for a week now on Janelle, the top Manager of both locations to reach out with fur to we discussions about the incredibly low standards, cleanliness, and overall care for our pets staying there. I found Jessica through a google search which led me to her yelp page, once I found out more about the services she offered on her site, and that she was nearby I reached out for a quote via yelp. She was very responsive, was able to fit me in within a few days, very straight forward and notified me of what to expect and arriving before the appt to complete paperwork & review the groom service. I took Lucky in this morning, was greeted immediately, checked in and after Jessica assessed Lucky's condition she notified me that he had very matted fur and what she could do/not do depending on the severity of the fur once she started with the grooming, and what to expect from the groom. I like that she thoroughly informed me of the situation, what my options were and that it would cost more due to the added work to de-matt him and the sensitivities that lucky could experience so she would have to be even more meticulous with the grooming. I picked him up in 2.5 hours and she went though how he needed to be shaven all around because of how matted his fur was, where he could experience irritation (what else to expect) and if I need to take him to the vet due to further irritation because of the condition of his skin from the matted fur. Overall I was floored by her knowledge but also very personable nature (something I have not experienced with a previous groomer). I'm so much more informed (as I had inherited lucky and am a new pet owner, so still learning). She even honored the price she had originally quoted me at which I thought was extremely generous given the nature of the groom. I can't wait to have lucky come back to be groomed and well taken care of by Jessica!
