Before even walking into the facility, I spoke with Tonya who was extremely helpful with getting us acquainted to the process of renting a unit. I've never rented a storage unit so I was clueless on what to expect or needed in the first place. Upon arrival, Tonya gave us a tour of the facility and the unit we wanted to rent. From the office to the units themselves, everything was so clean and well cared for. There's cameras all over the place so you can feel secure about your belongings. Plus, each renter gets a personalized pin so they know who's coming in and out. Tonya was amazing and really made my family and I feel welcomed and confident with our decision to rent here. It didn't take long for us to sign the contract. We also had a great offer through an online promotion by the company and after the promotion we would qualify for a 10% military discount! I highly recommend this facility!

The District manage Adel told me "all we have to do is give you 30 days notice and we can adjust the price for demand" She felt a 55 percent increase in my rent was fair game, and every 30 days she can do what she likes. We will be leaving as soon as we can arrange it!!! I was told by the property manager on site that "yeah, I saw them do that to a lot of people. They get them in and then raise the rent immediately." The most dishonest business I have ever dealt with!!!

We did a local move within Abilene and went through the U-Haul website to hire some movers. That went pretty smooth. Went to pick up U-Haul's largest truck the night before. While doing the walk around, I'm noticing fluid from the front end. The young guy who's filling out the paperwork says it's fine and that "the power steering pump blew out so they 'just' replaced it." Except that the smell is distinctly antifreeze. You don't mistake that for PS pump fluid. No worries, it's local. Finish up paper work, time to hit the road. Sometimes you get a really nice truck, this wasn't one of those times. Pretty nasty inside but hey, we're not checking into a 5-star hotel. Immediately on the road, there's significant play in the steering. Like I'm in some 1950s movie and it's driving scene where the steering wheel goes back and forth an 1/4 of a turn each way before it actually moves the wheels. It's dark, the road is unfamiliar, it's a giant, nasty truck that is leaking fluid and the steering barely allows you to stay centered in your lane. Yeah. . . this is nice. That's about the size of it for the local store. Some of the employees look like they're in over their head. One you guy had a lot of mental snap (knew what he was doing), but just had too much going on around him. When I got back to the house for the night, I called the U-Haul 800 number about the condition of the truck. They were sympathetic to the problem and did get a tow truck out to pick up the truck. We did have to go pick up another which put us in a jamb because they were about to close. But we got another truck and yee-haw. All-in-all, just okay. The whole "power steering pump" story was pretty odd and unnecessary. The local store on Clack is huge with lots of trucks, yet it's got a low-end, out of control feel to it. The Nat'l side seemed fairly willing to get things done, that was good. Lest you think about going to the competition in town, don't. It's only worse in Abilene.

My sewage line wasn't draining properly so I got bid from them. They used a camera (sophisticated) to explore the sewage line, which was about 60 ft from the fence line/alley. Guy said that it was old clay pipe that needed to be replaced for $7000. And they would have to replace it all the way to the city main, which would make Abilene the only city that allows anyone to work on their city mains. So just to check on what the city had which I figured was upgraded to pvc (it was) I dug down to the sewer line at the edge of the property. So I started digging down to the sewer line a couple of other places just to verify what the plumber claimed. It ended up only being clay about 10 ft on my property from the city's line. So if the guy had been honest and not tried to grossly exaggerated or pad the estimate he would have said replace the 10 feet of clay because he couldn't have missed it with the camera that he ran from the trap next to my house down toward the fence line. This is probably a common way that unscrupulous plumbers line their pockets. It took a day to dig up that 10 ft of clay and replace w pvc. Cost $89 for supplies. What a profit margin. The sad thing or maybe part of the scam was the fish (Christian) symbol on his truck.

I had a carpenter ant problem, and the first tech was great although he showed up pretty early. He was a very friendly and professional former member of the military. He seemed knowledgeable and told me to give the chemicals time to work but to call back if I still had ants. The price I was charged was somewhat higher than I was quoted but I was told they guarantee their work and would come back as many times as it took to take care of the problem. A few weeks go by and I call to let them know I still have the ants- they never left although I did find some dead ones for a few days. I was to,d they would come back to treat again. They called to cancel the initial appointment as my tech had a death in the family. I expressed sympathy and told them no problem. I rescheduled and then they called on the new day to change the time. I agreed to work with them and they sent a different tech out. He was courteous and went quickly about his work. Told me to give things time to take effect but let them know if I still have ants. A few weeks go by and I call to report that the ants are still not gone. I was told I would be charged again in full because my "warranty" had run out. I tried to explain that they never got rid of the ants but was told there was no way around having to pay another couple hundred bucks. My understanding of warranties is that you buy something and the warranty guarantees it for a set amount of time. I was under the impression that they would get rid of the ants and guarantee me they would stay gone for 3 months or whatever. I didn't get what I paid for to begin with so not comprehending why my warranty would be out. I'm thankful Lawrence Hall didn't declare the warranty on my truck expired before I got the truck! Two stars because they were courteous but I didn't get what I paid for and will now need to find a pest control company that can actually get rid of carpenter ants.
