I stop weekly to purchase multiple bouquets for my mother. She loves sunflowers and as long as she waters them, they will last for a few weeks. They are some of the largest sunflowers, nothing like you find in the stores. They sell beautiful roses and assorted arrangements as well. During the various holidays, they have holiday arrangements and they are so vibrant and festive. Sometimes they will have fresh produce such as watermelon or other locally sourced fruit, but not often. If they do, buy it, try it because it's fresh and flavorful. They accept cash and Venmo! There is a cash box to leave your money in case an employee isn't working directly at the stand to take your payment.

In addition to the picking, the event has a small festive vibe with local vendors, live music, and food trucks. Whether you're grabbing a cold drink, shopping handmade goods, or just enjoying the music under the beautiful trees, there is something for everyone. The whole setting is incredibly photogenic too, especially in the afternoon light. This venue is both family- and dog-friendly. Admission is only $5 and includes parking, making it a very affordable outing. They sell lavender by the bundle, so you can take home as much (or as little) as you'd like. Just a heads-up: the farm is on a windy/country road, and cell reception is limited, so it's best to plan ahead and download directions before you go. Also, wear good walking shoes and bring sunscreen, it gets warm out there! There are tons of bees, so 'bee' respectful of them. What makes this place extra special is the story behind it. Keep in mind that De Luz Road is a super winding curvy road. Go slow and take a motion sickness pill if you're sensitive! We came during their 3rd annual Lavender Festival. They had olive oil, honey, small vendors and few food trucks with live music. Parking: -Free -Plan to get there early for parking to park inside the small lot. -If you arrive later and see cars parked on the side of the road, just follow suit and park behind them. Chances are, the lot inside is already full. -Once cars are parked on the road, this narrow road becomes a one way road and one car can fit at a time. If you drive towards the entrance, someone may be exiting but then one of you will have to yield. Tips: -Go early for parking (read above) -Bring hat, water, sun screen, sunglasses -Plenty of grass area to bring blankets and chairs -Lots of shade in the grass from trees or under the dining tent with tables. -Besides the lavender farm, there are other garden areas with lovely flowers and random swings and hammocks. -U-pick is $25 for 2 bunches. They give you scissors and a basket. -Bees are attracted to lavender. It's what gives that lavender scent. There are A LOT of bees. -Wear close toed shoes unless you don't mind the dirt or getting stab from the dry leaves and mulch. -Don't get confused with Farm address versus store address in downtown Fallbrook on S Main Ave. When you walk in, you are greeted and asked if you want to pick lavender. Then you are given a basket with scissors. You pay after you pick at another location. I love that the event is free with plenty of food options. Although I got prime parking, I wish they had a person to direct the one way traffic. As I was exiting, a vehicle was driving up towards the entrance. We both had no where to pull over to pass. The strawberries and tomatoes were delectably sweet and sour. - The farm is big enough to enjoy. No long lines. Pay everything including the parking fee at the end. Cons - Driving there, you may notice a couple CLOSED (on Sundays) signs. Turns out that's for the same-address Nursery. The U-Pick Farm's still open. I was about to turn back. lol - Only one porta potty. So if you're desperate and it's occupied... don't think about doing a fertilizing favor. - The sink by the porta potty is small and button-activated, so that's two flaws: 1) you need to touch the frequent-contact button as you wash your hands, which keeps your hand dirty, and 2) your knuckles rub against the dirty sink basin. - You can buy some of these cheaper at the local grocery store. So if you think about it, you come to the farm to pay MORE to do the work FOR them. It's funny. But yes, you're paying for the fun, the fruits' freshness, and the experience. - Kind of a long drive. Expect total 1-2 hr commute. You may want to bring an ice box. Neutral - Watermelon was refreshing, but the red/white ratio was not as big as I'd like. - The fruits are smaller than at the grocery store, but that's likely because they're natural and non-GMO. That is, the store's fruits are often bigger cuz they're genetically modified. - Most of the fruit/veg rows are labeled, but a few weren't, or weren't clearly labeled. - Too bad the corn wasn't in season.

There aren't enough spots, which makes the whole process even more stressful when you're trying to coordinate with a school group and young kids.

No shade so be sure to bring a hat and water. Small food truck offering drink and snacks. Small sundries shop as well. I didn't see any restroom facilities and it's not a major exit off the freeway so come prepared.
