They open first week of October, I've been here 3 times in the fall in the past years not conservatively. Almost everything is pretty much the same. It's family owned very nice people. Great experience each time. Bring water and maybe a hat or go early. Plenty of persimmons so don't worry about them selling out. They have other fruits too but not abundant like persimmons. Bar 2 Ranch is my go to for persimmon picking. The staffs are very friendly, make sure you bring cash with you, no credit/debit transactions. They have a bucket, clippers and a wagon for you to use but it's limited. Make sure you get there early, they open at 8AM and have fun picking the persimmons. There are plenty of persimmon trees as well to choose from, most of the trees had fruits on it when I went. Their persimmons are THE BEST, it is sweet and crunchy. A place for U-pick fanatics like myself. If you love picking your own fruits and you like persimmon this is yours place in Pauma Valley, CA They charge $1.25lbs for Fuyu persimmon, which is a good price. This is a private mom & pops farm and they provide buckets and clippers as well. If you rather not pick your own fruits they have fruits stand with already picked fruits you can purchased. Their fruit stand consist of lime, naval oranges, persimmon, grapefruits, the hard to find blanca sapote. Which if you've never had it, you must let it sit on the counter until it's ripe and soften to eat. They're sweet and custardy and I've never found them in supermarkets. You must go early October- early November. By mid November their persimmons are already picked cleaned or too high up to pick. We do love walking the farm and taking photos. The family also have dogs and they are dogs friendly. They even offered my dog, Peanut a dog treat but we kept our dog in the car most of the time. They do allow dogs on leashes and you must pick up after your dogs. On one side of the farm they also have jujube and another type of persimmon. Must ask before picking these. Fresh fruit is always the best! Especially when you are able to pick your own. First time ever picking persimmons, it was so much fun. They provide everything you need, buckets, wagons and cutters. You can even hop on their tractor and make it a ride. Best of all the fruit is soo good and cost half of what you pay at the store. Recommend making a morning of it. My whole family had so much fun and we got competitive on who can get the funkiest looking persimmon. Remember to wear some dirty shoes because you will get your shoes dirty. Look out for gopher holes too. Hey they need to eat too! Hahaha.. What I love is, it is a family ran farm and they don't utilize pesticides. We were told that they don't spray and we can eat the fruit off the tree. And yes! We sure did! The only complaint was the bathroom, just thankful that there was bathrooms available. I have visited the Bar 2 ranch to pick persimmons and pomegranates each year for the past 5 years. The farm is located at a reasonable distance from San Diego and makes for a nice day trip. One can pick the fruit or purchase items that have already been picked. You can call to check when the fruits are ripe for picking. The prices are very reasonable. Pick you own persimmons for $.50/lb!! Who can argue with that. We picked 60 lbs. our first time there. Admittedly the Fuyu persimmons were smaller than the fruit on our two trees at home, but there were a lot to be picked without the aid of a ladder. They supply you with buckets and clippers. We brought our own gloves and in the future will bring our own sharpened clippers. A long pole with a hook or clippers would also be useful for reaching the high hanging fruit. It was a long drive from Scripps Ranch, but made for a nice day with family and friends. We got there at 10:30 on a Tuesday morning which was perfect. Not too hot or crowded. read more

It's cheap and fun! I took the fam here and we all had fun. They have a tractor that takes you to the other side where the pickings are. Only thing I would recommend is for this place to accept card payments. Nobody really likes to carry cash anymore. But, its a ranch so what can I say? It's the old school way. We go here every year to pick persimmons between Oct and Nov. It used to be $0.50 per pound and is now $1 per pound which is cheaper than the stores. They have clippers and buckets for you, but we bring our own clippers and ladder. Even with my husband being 6'4", some of the best fruit is too high for us to reach. Call ahead because the available just depends on the season and the current weather. We usually go during veterans weekend and for three years, they always had a lot. This year (2022) when we went, they were all picked though. We were still able to buy the ones already picked though, for the same price. read more

Definitely a hidden San Diego Gem! Highly recommend going if you enjoy picking fruit and enjoy persimmons! The owner/farmer is very responsive to calls. Each time I called within the business hours, someone quickly picked up. It seems like a family run business. The turn off from the road is a little hidden, but it's the first right turn after the massive "Bar2Ranch" sign. The parking situation is ok. There aren't a ton of parking spots but people aren't here that long so turnover is rapid. There is more parking on the left of the stand. They have a truck that drives U-pickers to different parts of the persimmon fields. You can also walk behind the stand and pick the trees behind it. You go up to the stand, grab an empty Home Depot bucket, a pair of clippers found in a cardboard box by the cash register, and head to the trees. They dont have ladders for everyone. We saw one in the field in the back, but you really don't need one since the trees branches were heavily laden with fruit and the branches bowed down. The trees are also short so people of all heights will have a good time. There were a ton of families with young children picking on a Sunday morning. Great family activity! Once you're done picking, you bring your buckets to the cash register and scale, return your clippers, and the farmer/employee tumbles your fruit into a plastic bag and weighs it. This year (2017) the persimmons were $0.70/lb. 1lb is about 2-3 persimmons I think. This is a fantastic price compared to grocery stores around San diego. If you over picked and don't want to keep all the persimmons, you can just keep the amount you want. If you don't want to pick at all and just buy persimmons, they have a pre-picked stand section as well. You can also pick pomegranates here! I also think they have other trees available for picking throughout the year based on seasonality. Overall, a great experience and I plan on coming back next year. The season here (Pauma Valley) seemed to start at the beginning of October and ends mid November. Call to confirm though. read more

Eh, skip this place. We arrived only about two weekend after permission season and all the trees were already picked over. They were selling green unripe permission...really! No thanks! Made the trip out to the Bar 2 this weekend to pick up some fresh off the tree persimmons. We walked through the entire grove and I would say most of the trees were fairly picked over, with the exception of a few on the very end, which had some very nice fruit to pick. The people are very nice, and this is a super low key place. Just grab a bucked or two or three, and start picking. I think it was less than a dollar per pound, and you can discard anything that doesn't look good right at the check out. The drive from RB was not bad at all, just cruise the 15 to the 76, and look for the very subtle sign for Bar 2 (as soon as you see the sign, slow down and prepare to turn into a very easily missed driveway). All in all, not a bad outing to kill a few hours, and score some nice persimmons :) Oh and if you like to gamble, you'll roll right past the Pala Casino twice during this trip, so you could make a whole adventure out of it if you like ! read more

Only 1.5 hrs from irvine. Quaint place with nice workers. We picked 3 buckets of persimmons- about 20 dollars a bucket (89 cents a pound). You can also pick pomegranates. They will give you buckets and shears and a wagon to pull along. They also have a fruit stand with the yummiest oranges. Pack a lunch and eat at the benches (no tables). They have portable bathrooms and a sink (bring sanitizer). Wear proper closed toe shoes. Sunscreen and plenty of water. Two McDonald's on the way to grab iced coffee. We went today. A great place to pick up some persimmons and so cheap, $10 a buckets. They also have pomegranates.

I've been coming here for the past two years to pick persimmons. The trees are low and they keep it well pruned. The fruit is clean and not like the ones we get in LA with all of the soot and fruit flies. Although their hours are until 5pm, they don't chase you out if you arrive late or if you linger in the orchard. They supply clippers and buckets, and even have a tractor to take you to farther parts of the orchard and they don't forget about and pick you up. Very considerate. There are avocados for sale and they offer the ones that are bigger than softballs with pits the size of a golfball. The avocados are definitely an added plus and cannot be found in the stores in LA. read more
