Enterprise came to the rescue when my car was in the shop at a Geico Auto Repair Xpress shop, Arizona Collision Specialists in Scottsdale. Dismayed at the situation I was in, my spirits had been lifted somewhat by the nice folks at the repair place. Little did I know how amazing this guy Taylor would make the rest of my day. It can be an overwhelming thing to stand in front of someone with your wallet. I also had a box of crap from the trunk of my car. "Yes, please. I'd like a car. I wasn't expecting to need one today." "Whaaat? You don't want to take my AAA card for payment?" [Headshake from me] With a sense of humor Taylor not only processed my paperwork, he did it efficiently. I felt confident that I'd receive the money held on my debit card once the car was returned. (My awesome insurance policy covers car rentals. So glad I have that!) Taylor was clear in his communication and lovely to interact with. Our walk thru of the car was quick. I did not feel like I'd have anything to worry about when it was returned. Every ding I pointed out was duly noted. The only negative thing about renting my car from Enterprise is actually quite funny. This gal is old school. Taylor started the car for me. I asked where the gas tank was, the lights, how to start the wiper blades and move the seat. Off I went. When I arrived at Sprouts I didn't think twice and pulled the keys out. ....or so I thought. After completing my shopping I sat befuddled in the car. I'm from New York. I've only owned two old used cars in high school, plus one beater of car I kept at my parent's house. So I'm sweating it out in the parking lot because this dumb girl did NOT KNOW HOW TO START THE CAR. Apparently you just stick the lock/unlock fob in. In defeat I called Enterprise and they walked me thru it. (No, you don't use the valet key. D'oh!) Keys are so passé. So anyway. Thanks Enterprise! Taylor made me smile. Thanks for helping me out!

What was not so amazing was when I was called in mid-September by Enterprise that I owed over $300 for having the rental for "10 days"! It took me 2 months to settle this ordeal. I called many times and was blatantly lied to that the refund was being taken care of at the moment we were speaking on the phone. I finally went in person 10/27/14, exactly 3 months to the day that my rental car had been returned to them, and got my $220 refund. If needed, I will take my car back to AZ collision, but will rent a car from elsewhere. Disgusted by the poor service; how many times does one need to call to get a refund on what's rightfully theirs?!? And then they didn't even offer any sort of compensation for the hassle I had gone through. This is not the way to build any kind of loyalty.

After calling around to a few different places, I was surprised at how good Ryder's truck prices were. I made a reservation over the phone with a girl at the Tempe location for a one way move and a drop off at their Phoenix location. She was so friendly and explained how their rental process works. Ryder charges by the day. $54 some odd dollars, plus mandatory insurance, and about .29 cents a mile. She quoted me about $100, and that was great! My final bill was $106 and some change. They have a variety of trucks to choose from! They have 16 and 24 foot box trucks, metro vans and quite a few other larger vehicles as well. I reserved a 16 foot truck, and went to pick it up on Friday, and it was huge! Truck was in great shape, and it even came with an automatic lift! I was impressed! (take THAT stupid U haul! you and your stupid ramps can go to hell! lol) We got to the rental location right at 6:30 am when they opened. They had a 16 foot truck, but told us that it had no air conditioning and was going to be an hour before it was ready because the headlight had to be replaced. They offered us a 24 foot truck for the same price, but that was wwwaaaayyyyy to big for me! They also said that if we didn't want to wait the hour, we could go to Glendale and get the 16 foot truck from them, but I said no, it would take more time to drive and get back, so Austin waited for it to be ready. I asked for a slight discount and they took a few dollars off the bill for the inconvienience. It literally took 1 hour to the minute! We both were impressed that their time quote was right on, so high 5 to them. Plus, they gave us options which was nice of them as well. Being that its not that hot outside right now, we decided to take the truck with no AC so it was no big deal to us. The guy behind the counter was wonderful. He was professional, treated us with respect, and seemed to know what he was doing. The rental process only took a few minutes, I signed some paperwork and I was on my way. The truck itself was clean, full of gas, and had an automatic power lift gate on the back. This makes loading so much easier! If you need to do a move in town, please, forget Uhaul and come here. The ONLY downside to ryder truck is that they don't rent moving dollys! I deducted a star for this, as its important to have for heavy items. If they did dolly rental, they would have received the extra star.

However upon visiting that location (on 43rd Camelback) I was completely dismayed as their staff was beyond rude, unfriendly, unaccountable, and overall unprofessional. It left a very bad impression on me; thus I contacted Customer Service to modify my pickup to another store. Luckily, the CSR I spoke with was able to complete a reservation which fit my moving needs for a 20ft truck on 26th Street & Indian School! Preemptively, I arrived one day prior to my reservation just to check in and make sure everything was all set for my moving day. It was then that a member of staff named "Jimmy" kindly greeted me and assisted with any/all concerns I had for my pickup day!!! Jimmy was friendly, most patient, gave excellent recommendations for movingly supplies and assured everything was set to go smoothly for my rental! I arrived the next day and was helped by two additional gentlemen who sufficiently checked me in for my truck rental. They were so concise and professional when informing me of all safety apparatus entailed with my rental! And to top that the 20Ft truck they supplied for my reservation was immaculate--seriously the cleanest UHaul I've ever rented! I feel so bad though because I (regretfully) didn't get to note either of their names to ensure proper credit could be received for their all of their hard work! Thank you all so much again! When I picked up the mattress bag they were having internet issues, but as I had prepaid for the bag online I don't think I should have had to wait for over 20 minutes. I also booked the truck online for mobile pickup in hopes of having a smoother process but that was not the case. There's no point to mobile pickup when I still had to go inside to talk to the employees four times. They had my truck parked in the wrong spot - it was in the back instead of the front. And then it was also blocked by another truck. And then the license plate number didn't match the mobile inspection. It took much longer for me to pick up this truck then it should have. The drop off process was also very slow. Poor service and organization at this location.

The Serpentine Belt came loose and my husband lost complete control of the moving truck. Here's some info about this belt breaking. "If a serpentine belt breaks while driving, you will instantly lose power steering, the alternator will stop charging the battery, and the water pump will cease circulating coolant, causing the engine to overheat." We waited 9HOURS, for a "roadside assistance" operator to inform my husband and I know we could leave the truck and not sit there until the tow comes. 9 HOURS. In the desert. This is on top of calls to every number we could find that is associated with budget. A budget customer service agent threatened us that if we "abandoned" the truck. Budget would no longer honor our full coverage agreement. Our truck arrived after 11:00pm to our hotel. The only call we got today was from a roadside assistance worker who asked us "When can your truck be picked up." We let them know it was still full. He asked how long it would take us to empty it. Called Budget again and was told to drive the truck to a budget. No more calls to budget. This is the location we rented from. Called this location today and the woman who answered seems like someone who hates everything about her job and couldn't help because her manager was off until Monday. In fact, the entire fleet was rented out to AMAZON! The guy behind the desk said, oh it's Black Friday today and Amazon is our #1 customer, and they needed for trucks due to Black Friday. I said, but i have a reservation and I called early this week to confirm. We have to be out of our house at 5pm tonight so the new buyers can move in. I am a customer too! how can you help me? First got a quote on line from U-Haul for a 16-foot moving truck and then tried Penske. The…read moreannoying thing with Penske's website is in order to get a quote you have to enter your e-mail and phone number (you can of course fake those). Penske turned out to be slightly less than U-Haul, but I didn't book anything at that time. Within the next few days I received two voice mails from Penske following up on my quote. Instead of booking on line I ended up calling their 800- number and the lady was kind enough to give me a discount. They had four different pick up locations in Phoenix and the most convenient pickup location turned out to be Sun Rentals, an independent Penske agent. Jay called me a couple of days before the scheduled pickup to confirm and I called him back. Jay was very professional and friendly and the truck was a almost new GMC that had a very smooth ride, but of course was a gas guzzler.
