Coordination could be smoother. I ordered a large order of boxes for pick up at 6:30pm. I called 800# same day to check if I can pick up sooner. I was told it was ready but when I arrived at site, they had a hard time locating my order. I gave them my confirmation and finally was able to pull up my order but nothing was pulled and was not ready. Another 15 min to pull my entire order. Otherwise, staff was accommodating and helpful. Horrible service. Employees totally unprofessional, kissing, holding hands, even bringing dogs into the establishment and then touching everything without sanitizing. Guests in the store without masks. We wanted outside for service for 15 minutes before acknowledging us after we advised them we were there before the other customers who advanced us in line. I told them both. They just said sorry. I advised them we were waiting for service. 1 employee girl with colored hair didn't care. Walked off with her dog and girlfriend holding hands. The other girl apologized. Gave us an employee discount, rented us a Decent Truck, and made it known that it was not ok what she did and said. The workers are very unprofessional. I went here with my husband and 3 year old daughter. One worker asked the other for the time and when he told him the time he screamed across the store, "FUCK MAN." And stormed out. My husband tried to make light of the awkward situation and joke about how he hates his job. I could only imagine how uncomfortable I would feel if I came to Merced U Haul by myself/with our toddler. If I could negative stars I would. Never using this service again for rentals or propane. They have horrific customer service. After putting over $40 of gas in the truck when I should have only had to put $15 (the gas gauge was defective and did not move up until it showed "full") I was told there was nothing they can do for any type of reimbursement for putting more gas. A little confusing since THEY are the ones with the defective gas gauge.....and my girlfriend fell out of the truck while stepping down, and Terrell Teal the "supervisor" on site expressed no concern whatsoever. I have rented from this place 5 times in the last 2 years. Since the two brothers left this place has gone hill. They tried to charge me for gas until i showed him the picture of the gas tank. Ooops, sorry sir. next, O.k. theres a 2nd day charge because you were late. WHAT?? No body told me that i had to return it at a certain time. So that took another 30 minutes to talk him to take that fraudulent charge. With all he extra charges the bill went from estimated $150 to $400 to with an hour of fighting with it drop to $300. I Rented a Cargo Truck from Merced MLK U-Haul. I wanted a 1-DAY, return to MLK rental. U-Haul entered it as a 1-WAY, non-return rental which would be more expensive. When I returned the vehicle within the 24 hour time frame, U-Haul MLK refused to except the vehicle and told me that after I arrived that I had to return it to either Atwater or another Merced U-haul which little did I know would activate the extra 1-way charges. I returned it to Atwater the next day - both Atwater and Merced U-Haul indicated that there would NOT be "extra day charge". Regardless of their "full disclosure" and the fact that U-Haul created the problem, II received a second day charge. The technique used to keep you from figuring out the issue is: They tell you that the original charge on your credit card will be adjusted when the bill is finalized and only the "actual" charges will hit your card. It was not. After viewing the extra charges, I called both Corporate U-Haul and the Merced U-Haul District Offices, Both offices told me I would receive a call from Mr. Tate, the local District Manager which II haven't received in over a month. Twice they promised that I would get a call and they have failed twice at this time. In the interim, visited U-Haul at MLK where after explaining the circumstance to the U-Haul agent, he explained to me that "U-Haul is doing you a favor" and stood firm on his conviction. No one was going to change his view. So, 1). No return call, 2). No resolution 3). No Cash back. The difference was approximately $95.00 and frankly, it's not worth the money to have to suffer talking to these people again. - EVER. I would pay another $95 to avoid talking to these people. I thought about calling the local District Manager again, but after my treatment by U-Haul, my opinion is; The only quality as a District Manager he exhibits are the words "DISTRICT MANAGER" on his ID Card. This is in no way to discredit the character of the local staff but I had reserved Uboxes online for an out of state move and when I arrived at the Merced location to pick one up, they said they haven't seen uboxes for over 6 months even though my online reservation said they would be there for me. The manager said that corporate keeps sending them customers with reservations for Uboxes but they never have them. It is deceptive and I believe criminal behavior to confirm a reservation for something as important as a move knowing full well they would not be able to fulfill such a promise. The corporate office obviously knows that they can't meet the demand but instead of stating such, they let customers go on the false assumption that the reserved equipment will be there. They obviously have to respect for their customers or their needs. Because of the mass exodus out of the decaying state of Kalifornia they take advantage of people by over booking. This must violate some interstate commerce law I would think. STAY CLEAR OF UHAUL IF YOU POSSIBLY CAN. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. This was the worst experience I have ever had with a company. I am still feeling very screwed over and upset over it. I will NEVER EVER EVER use U-Haul again. This happened on September 27th 2017. On September 2nd, I reserved a U-Haul in Merced, CA to be driven and dropped off in San Diego, CA on September 27th. When I got to the U-Haul off MLK Jr Way, they were just opening. I have him pull up my reservation which I placed under my fiance's name because he would be the one driving. We do our inspection and mark all the areas on the cargo van that needed to be marked. The man working (I didn't catch his name), then begins to talk to us about what we reserved. A van for 400 miles and 11 hours. I kindly asked him if I could extend the time to 24 hours, just in case we didn't make it to San Diego before the U-Haul's closed there. He said no problem, and changed it to 24 hour rental. He then told us that we needed a local address on file. I said, well I don't live here. We flew in last night to bring some furniture back home to San Diego, can I give you my Aunt's address? He said that was fine, they just needed a local address. I was quoted online about $100 to rent the U-Haul and we ended up paying around $190 because we added a lock, and changed the hours that we needed the van. No big deal, that is understandable. We leave and drive to SD. Turns out I was right and we didn't make it in time to return the van that night, no big deal because I extended us to 24 hours. I get up super early and gas up, drive it to the U-Haul in San Diego in City Heights. I give the man working there the paperwork. He then tells me that I cannot return the van there because I rented an "in-town" rental. It needs to be returned in Merced, CA. I begin to panic and explain to him everything that happened in Merced and that the man asked me for a local address but he didn't say why and that I can't return it there because I live in San Diego! The man in Merced knew all of this because we freaking sat there and talked to him about San Diego for like 5 minutes. Told him we flew in, and driving furniture that was given to us from my Aunt down to SD. The guy at the local SD U-Haul told me that there was nothing that he could do. I had to pay him another $224 because I drove it to SD. It should've been my price from Merced to SD. I should've paid that in Merced. Since I already paid $190, I ONLY owe him $224. I begin crying and freaking out because I DON'T HAVE AN EXTRA $224 TO SPEND ON THIS GIANT F UP THAT THE A**HOLE IN MERCED MADE. How is this my fault??? I don't know what to do?? Isn't there a way you can contact them and figure this out!? I can't afford this. These are all things I am telling and asking the man in San Diego. My car payment is due in a few days and $224 is HALF of my pay check. I don't know what to do. The guy tells me that he is "sorry, but there is nothing I can do. You owe this, or I can't take the truck." So obviously I had to pay him. I had to call my loan company and tell them I can't afford to pay my car payment for another two weeks. And that is the service that U-Haul provides. They f*ck people over and don't even try to help you or contact the source of the problem. There is just "nothing they can do". Well I am moving a HUGE AMOUNT of things from TWO HOUSES in the next few months. Guess who I won't be using?! U-Haul. I feel violated, taken advantage of, and disgusted by them. I will tell everyone I know not to use them and I will share this story. So much for decent human beings. They scammed me out of my money and I am beyond angry. I can't even talk about it in person to anybody because I just start crying. It is so screwed up. Thanks for nothing U-Haul. Two of your locations decided to not help me and screw me over. Along with the truck we had ordered a couple of utility dollies online that, unfortunately, were not in stock when we arrived. Without my saying anything or complaining at all, Michael gave me a discount and arranged to reserve the equipment at another place nearby. When the other location was unable to produce them, even though they showed as in stock online, Michael stepped up immediately and arranged to take care of the problem. This location was super cool. They were quick in and out with my initial rental. I was able to extend my rental over night and they accommodated me being pregnant and moving slow. The guy was cool when I returned it as well. The girl was having an equally rough day but she was still professional. We dropped off our truck at the Santa Fe location( which was closed ) and later got a text saying its this location. So I called a lady picked up, gave her all my info to look up because the location was switched. She said there was nothing I could do about it and I would have to call the Santa Fe location the next day. I asked if I would be charged extra for dropping off at a different location and she said she didn't know. Here it is the next day a guy from there called asking about the truck. My husband said it was dropped off at the location stated in our contract and be said that was ok and he'll make note of it. My husband called back and try to see if we would be charged extra for this incident. A lady picked up, Yolanda, and she ask the name on the account, he told her his name and was put on hold. She didn't even politely let him know that he would be put on hold. Waited for 15 minutes and still nothing. I'm guessing it's the same lady from the day before. He hung up and called back but was put on hold right away without anyone answering. So we called the location that we picked up the truck from and took about less than 5 minutes for them to explain what happened and we won't be charged for anything. Only 2 stars for the guy that called us about the truck, his politeness and efficiency. I'm giving it two stars because they were kind enough to let us pick it up late in the afternoon a day earlier than we had reserved. That's where the compliments end. We were moving stuff from Merced to San Diego so we rented a trailer one way from this location. About 2:30pm we realized the left turn blinker AND the brake lights weren't working. I called the number that we used to make the reservation and asked if we could take it back over and have someone look at it. I was told sure go over there they're open until 7 PM. Mind you we spent the whole day loading it so it's full and we are exhausted. We get over there and were told that the person that needs to look at it won't be back in until 5 PM. They ended up finding someone to come and look at it, who told us it was not the trailer it was the fuses in our truck. So since it was late Saturday afternoon, and this was not our own truck and we weren't familiar with it, we drove to the local Chevy dealership who of course was closed. We spent some time trying to find a small car repair place to help us out but everything was closed. So we drove all the way home with no brake lights or left turn blinker. When we returned home there was a message on our machine saying that the place we were scheduled to drop it off at (in our town) was full and we needed to take it to the next town over to drop it off. When we dropped it off we told the guy about the problem and he asked if they opened it up and looked at it. We said no. Turns out it was not our truck at all, but a faulty wire inside the trailer that they would've seen if they had bothered to open the door and look. read more

The guy said, "all you have left to do is verify the gas levels, mileage, and make sure all dings have a x sticker on them and you are good to go" and he walked off so we do what he says & take off...5 minutes later he calls me 2 or 3 times saying I didn't finish feeling out paperwork & I have "10 minutes to get back to the Uhaul office before he calls the police!" Why had he gave us the keys already & walked away then? Long story short, we went back & ended up being late for our hired movers. (That were charging us $49 per hour) Also not cool when you get charged about $5 per mile to have to turn around a big Uhaul & drive back across town over a employees mistake in communication! This location has the most friendly staff. The moving truck was clean and have enough gas for my one way trip. The quote was exactly the same as online. Unlike Budget which offered a great deal online but denied the quote after your confirmation. I highly recommend UHaul and don't go to Budget which is a liar. read more
