SLOW, SLOW, SLOW. I use their self-storage and the only good thing about them is the location. Everything else SUCKS. Chronically understaffed, unprofessional behavior, no sense of urgency. The manager looks to be in his very young 20s and only staffs 2 people for the entire operation, including rentals, storage, payments, etc. I have yet to visit this store and spend less than 20 minutes WAITING for help. First I called the number to this place and I guess it was routed to a call center and wanted to get a truck because it showed available on the day I wanted it and went to the store to double check and the guy at the counter told me I was only on a ghost list and wasn't guaranteed a truck for my day since they were booked up for that day. Ridiculous! I was told by the lady on the phone that they have it and was told i could pick it up here and was told way different when I showed up in person! I'm furious! Will try and make this quick and to the point. We took our truck there for a hitch and wiring harness a couple weeks ago. We ordered the service online. Online, it ONLY asks what service you want and we detailed exactly that - a hitch and wiring harness. It does NOT ask what hitch or wiring harness we want. We take the truck down and, after much round and round on which parts to use between the gal inside and the guy who is suppose to do the job, because my husband and I have no idea, we pay and leave. Pick up the truck, didn't bother to check the lights (yes, our bad) and go boating a couple weeks later. We checked the brake and blinkers before we left and they worked but didn't notice the running lights weren't working because it was super bright outside. We called U-haul to take it BACK in to have it fixed and fixed RIGHT, and set up an appointment online for this morning. Get there this morning and they (owner) knows NOTHING about the appointment or the issue, and is somewhat short with us, as if we were trying to pull something. We did not have the receipt - probably in the glove box of my husband's truck but hubby pulled up on his phone the transaction from his bank. Interestingly enough, it was different than what U-Haul showed because their paperwork was a mess. But before we headed in to talk to the "owner", we talked to a guy outside who tells us he is the "hitch guy" and the ONLY certified hitch guy they have. He's been "certified" for a couple of months but he wasn't the one who did this job. So does that mean they have uncertified people doing a job that requires a certification?? I am giving them 2 stars because they DID fix it but the vibe we got this morning was NOT a good one and they tried to charge my husband the difference between the wrong harness they installed and the one they SHOULD have installed. I understand we didn't have the receipt but they had SOMETHING in their system, just not the correct information, apparently. Just aggravated because customer service is a huge thing for me and when an establishment falls short, I have to call them out on it. read more

I have spent 3 hours trying to get the GM to call me back concerning a piece of equipment I was not given. I spent nearly $200 dollars in there buying boxes & tape and when I went in yesterday .. I was not given the bar that goes with the wardrobe box. The folks who work the front counter seem okay, but out of 3 messages left for the GM .. NOT ONE WAS RETURNED. We pack the truck tomorrow and now I don't have the bar needed to gather our clothes! C'mon man! Do better at returning customers phone call. Especially after they spent a ton money in there. AND answer your phone until you actually close. I tried calling back, several times, within a half an hour before closing and it went to the answering service each time. This sucks! I scheduled a hitch install online for this facility for Wednesday December 13th. Alejandro calls me the day before my appointment to tell me that he will have to order my parts and will take 4 to 6 days. What? I made my appointment a week ago! If they had ordered the part when I made my appointment it would have been there on time. I then rescheduled for Monday December 18th. He also says it will take 3 hours for instalIation when it clearly says 1 hour on the website. He says I can get it done at another place and he will refund me but not sure when refund will go back onto my account depending on the bank. I said that I can just wait for it. On my appointment day I get there 10 min before my appointment time. I have to wait in line specifically for the manager so when he is finally available he had to check to see if my part had come in. He told me it would be 3 to 4 hours for the installation and saw that I had already prepaid everything online already. After all that it was already a about 10am. I left to wait. I was hungry so I walked my kids to eat across the street since the waiting area was just 2 chairs in the hallway. We took the bus to Bass Pro for the kids to have something to do. I finally get a call and v/m at 2:18pm that my car is ready. We head back on the bus when we get there I am told that it took long because it wouldn't align. Then he tells me that I have to pay more because the website didn't charge me the tax. I was not happy. We're going on a trip to visit family in a few days and everything is tightly budgeted. I tell him this and he says there's nothing he can do that they didn't charge the full amount and he can charge the credit card on file. What can I do? I had to pay it since he already did the work, right? It left me feeling swindled. It wasn't much but it is. I wish that I had read the reviews for this place before I scheduled here. Have your work done someplace else. Never coming back here again. Feel very disappointed that this happened. read more

The first was rescheduled to a different location in Manteca and the second was rescheduled to a location all the way in Modesto. Extremely inconvenient and costly. MY FIRST EVER YELP REVIEW BECAUSE THEY ARE THAT BAD!! We needed to rent a car trailer... sounds simple...not at this place! We reserved the trailer, gave the necessary information and pre paid over the phone! I arrived and there was one customer ahead of me so I waited at least 15 minutes while the one and only inside cashier/ employee helped them. Then he escorted them outside and showed them how to operate the moving truck for another 10 minutes while I continued to wait. When he returned I asked where the other employees were and he says he is the only one (there are 3 or 4 computer stations). Now he wants to look at my truck...Whats the license # he asks? Its new and doesn't have one yet (pretty obvious). He says there is a problem and you hitch is too low...No it's not...Yes it Is...NO IT'S NOT...I can't let you take this trailer...What is your minimum height requirement and lets get a tape measure. He doesn't know the minimum requirement...Shocker! so he agrees to hook up the trailer and try it out (it was fine and didn't rub the ground one time even leaving the steep driveway there). So we go back to the office for another 10-12 minutes for signatures and a handful off ridiculous questions like "what color is the car you are going to be towing?" Now there are 2 other customers behind me getting irritated and nobody there cares! Finally outside to get the trailer hooked up. I waited at my truck (as directed) for another 10 minutes but nobody came to help so I drive around back and a guy is waiting there next to my trailer. I ask why he didn't come and get me and he says "oh I guess I could of done that" Another 10 minutes for a simple trailer hook up and I'm finally off! So we go home and load the car and notice a questionable tire on the trailer. Its after hours so we hope for the best. We leave around 5:00 am for L.A. and get about 60 miles down the highway and it happens, a BLOWOUT! because U-Haul doesn't inspect their vehicles or trailers. (At least they were concerned about the color of the car i was towing!!). FYI... It took 2 hours for U-Haul road service to get there to change the tire. EMPLOYEES WERE ARGUMENTATIVE, CONDESCENDING, and BOARDER LINE RUDE so steer clear of this place because I would bet $ this type or stuff happens daily! read more

If I was able to select no stars I absolutely would... that is just how horrible their customer service is. I made reservation just about a week in advance prior to scheduled pick-up. U-Haul text me the day before to let me know they do not have the truck I request, as well as the same truck they sent me confirmation confirming pick up location just days ago. When I called to express my concerns, all they can say is "sorry". Well... Sorry don't help... The so call District Manager that wasted my time by getting on the phone was useless.. His poor professional approach clearly proves not everyone is cut out for the title they hold. So very sad for the customers, U-Haul, without a doubt is in need of a revamp in how to treat and execute customer service. When I asked the question, "how do you take care of your customers when you all clearly make mistakes". All I can get is a dry "I'm sorry". They made absolutely no effort to try and correct their mistake... so disappointing. All I can say is "buyer beware"... have a plan B if you decide to go with U-Haul. they are not reliable and the poor customer service is just the icing on the cake. read more

If I could give ZERO stars I would. I rented a box from them in September. My box was stolen. I subsequently went through utter HELL. They ended up charging me for a stolen box that I was never even able to use and that I had purchased insurance for. I even made a police report and went through the uhaul insurance claim process which at the end of the conversation they said wait, you had an empty box that was stolen? You don't need a claim, you have insurance, they should just refund you the money. Hours spent on the phone with customer service. Never able to actually speak to anyone at the location. I was told repeatedly by customer service that the only way to get the charges reversed was to talk to the location directly. And also that they had left messages with the manager to reverse my charges and that someone would give me a call back. So one day I decided to go in, to my surprise there WAS NO ONE WAITING. They point blank have no care to pick up their phone. HORRIBLE. I finally had to file a claim to get my money back. Customer service is absolutely horrible. I had my box stolen and I was directed to every freaking person in the Uhaul system because no one knew what was going on, how to track anything. they messed up my order and I had to physically go in to another location to make changes. I was on the phone for 24 hrs. My moving was absolutely a horrific experience and I ended up being delayed in my moved from CA to NC by two days. And guess what. Today after I have already gone through hell. I was charged YET AGAIN by the same location. And guess what? I called the location and no one picked up the phone-again directed to customer service. This is not the store if you want a long distance move. This store has awful customer service and made the already incredible awful stress of moving 100x worse. AVOID AVOID AVOID. I'm about to spend another 15 hrs on the phone. Thank you U haul of Manteca. This is my last time moving with Uhaul. Good luck when dealing with this organization. I booked a moving truck on Thursday to pick up at 11 am on Friday.when I walk in the place to get my truck they had already rented it out. So they didn't have any other trucks and could care less about their jobs. Then they tell me I need to make another reservation. So I went home and made a reservation for a pick up on Saturday they told me that they had alot of equipment and a truck would be available.then a few minutes later they call me and let me know that the truck is going to have to be pick up in the Northside of Stockton. this is a scam they charge $.99 a mile and the truck is 20 miles away. So I call their corporate office and speak with Sandy and they are not willing to do anything but have someone call me back in 3 to 5 business days.funny thing is when I drive by their yard they have two of the same trucks I was trying to rent. I would not recommend this location. I placed a reservation for a 17 foot truck. When I arrived it did not have any gas in it. The manager of this location asked me to follow him to a gas station to gas up the truck. I was not comfortable with this situation and sounded a bit off. I should not have to follow him anywhere. I asked if another truck was available and it was a 15 foot and it had gas. By the time we got everything together there it was 30 minutes later than my original appointment. I also ended up taking my vehicle instead of riding with my driver, because it did not have enough room. When I asked for the 50.00 back because they guarantee on time delivery, he told me to bad. So what if I asked you to go to the gas station. He said "haven't you gone to a gas station before?" I told him I was not comfortable with the set up and he said "Oh Well". We reserved a cargo trailer and advised the moron manager Chase we were hauling a harley davidson motorcycle and he never once recommended a motorcycle trailer . We made to Newcastle and checked on the bike and the ring it was strapped to came apart and broke causing the bike bike to fall over andcwas leaning on the right grip whichbgot broken . Well I called there jokevof a road side service who could not repair the trailer and never bothered coming out and left us stranded withma useless trailer . My husband followed me on the bike to the closest Uhaul in Roseville and they advised us the trailer is not a proper trailer for motorcycles and that the hook was rusted and worn . After 5 hours in Roseville and no help from Uhaul road service I rented another trailer this time meant for a motorcycle . I opened a claim requesting a refund because they left us stranded andcIbwas forced to rent another trailer within 4 hours of renting the worn out faulty trailer. We also requested reimbursement for the damages and repairs to our motorcycle . After 10 days they never called us and when I followed up they had already denied our request without even tslking to us . The moron manager denied the request when he is the reason this happened because he rents out garbage equipment. I have reopened the claim and once again the same moron denied the claim without taking responsibility for his garbage he allowed to be rented . I reserved my truck about 3 weeks in advanced online with no problem. Gave the size I needed, how many hours, the location, everything and even reserved it with my credit card. The day before the move, we were informed we wouldn't be receiving the truck because the person who had it wasn't returning it. My husband received a voicemail that even tho they didn't have the size we had reserved, the had something in place of it or we would be able to drive 20 miles one way and get the size truck we needed. (Remind you, they charge for gas plus .99 per mile) we were planning on using not even 10 miles on this truck. Now they're telling us were gonna have to pay for the extra 40 miles because they don't do truck transfers from store to store.I go into the store to confirm the substitute was there and I'm told they have NO truck for me and there's NOTHING they can do. I was told reserving the truck online was a waste of time because that's more of a "wait list" than anything. Then why have the option online? Over all, customer service at the 800 number was no help, the gentleman in the store didn't even try to help even when we were told they had a truck for us. BUT the sweet, sweet lady in Stockton helped us and I can't thank her enough. For such a big company you'd think they'd have things in order. read more
