Puna & Chris After…read more23+ years in the Military and countless storage experiences across many states, I can honestly say Puna provided the BEST customer service I've ever received. She was incredibly patient, kind, professional, and truly cared about helping my family during a stressful time. She worked with us for a long time to make sure we got the best value and deal possible, and never once made us feel rushed or unimportant. The facility is clean, secure, and excellent, but what truly makes this place special is Puna and her husband Chris. Their genuine care for people goes far beyond normal customer service. You can tell they truly have passion for helping others. If every storage facility had someone like Puna leading it, this company would be unstoppable. From my family to yours, thank you both so much. We truly appreciate you and will absolutely recommend everyone to come here and ask for Puna for the VIP treatment. I will be updating this review for every price hike that I get so everyone knows how often and how much this company raises their price. *Update (06/29/2026). They have rat issues. Found rat shit and piss in my unit on top of my stuff and on the floor. I even talked to people that was there that are on the same floor as me and they have the same issue and they even found dead rats in their unit. Check my photos of the rat shit. Signed up with them for a new customer promotional price of $174 for the first two months then after that it's $348 a month. Well I did the first two months for $174 then the third month for $348 now for the 4th month they jacked the price up to $447. That is crazy for them to do that. I do not recommend this place. That's bad business to be doing that. My other place I had before raised their prices too but compared to Securespace Self Storage. The amount Securespace Self Storage raised their prices by in a month took my old storage place took over 8 years of raising prices to get to the same amount. At least my old storage place raised their prices in small increments.

It wasn't until moving in to a new place yesterday that I realized how inconvenient everything is at this place. My new place (Public storage on Ka Uka in Waipi'o) has such easy entry and I didn't realize how awful the entry process in to the building is at this place. They only have one trolly per building so if someone else is using it you are SOL. You have to prop the door open with your shoulder or something to get in and out. Basically it's hard to get the trolly to your car or back in because of the heavy door that does not stay open. My new place has an electronic door and I loved how easy it was to get in and out of the building. My new place has carpet on the floor of my unit and this place has just concrete (I'm not complaining about that as it was fine- I'm just saying). They kept raising my rates which were not competitive. I asked them to lower them and they said someone would get back to me which they never did. I guess I thought that they would not want to lose me as a customer but I guess the wait to get in at higher rates must be long. I found the same size unit at a better place for $70 less per month. I just needed a place between town and Makaha so it was easy to find a place between work and home. Good riddens Hawaii Self Storage.

Extra space business philosophy needs to be exposed. I am a frequent user of the service at extra…read morespace - from coast to coast - I have / had units in WA, NV, CT, CA and others. 3 units at a time at WA location. My issue? Every three months - like clockwork the first rate increase hits. Then about month 5 another rate increase. So in a year you begin with one price and end up with two increases and not modest either. Mine were over $120 in one year! Extra space hides behind the "month to month" "special rates" arguments but have never said the frequency of those increases. $60 rate increase is a lot. For anyone. People think it's too much and they complain and extra space does nothing. Like they want you to move. And we do. Move to another unit - get the same price you had for three months - move again and on and on. Or move out. I have complained and will complain so there is a record of the business philosophy as extra space is definitely NOT loyal customers are great. More customers are great they think and they raise the price to get those customers - unless you store elsewhere, move every 3 months, or do not even bother and rent elsewhere. I've dealt with this years now and over 7 locations in 6 states - this being the latest - as I got my rent increase notice - right at the same time as the other locations. Hey Extra Space. Loyal long term customers are what you want - not turn over - you are losing money from us regulars. In the end you should avoid extra space unless 3 months or less. No long term storage for us military families possible. So I'm off to the next extra space to see if they are the same treatment (I know they are) Avoid it and ask about price increases frequency- maybe another storage company will guarantee your rate for 6 or more months!
