Beware of unauthorized fees and rude management! Check your contract! When I returned my rental, I was hit with a surprise $10 charge ($5 for a dolly, $5 for furniture padding) because the plastic tags on the pre-staged equipment in the truck were broken. Neither of these items--nor any fees for breaking a seal--were anywhere in my signed rental contract. When I brought this up, the location manager was incredibly rude, dismissive, and refused to help, claiming it was just "company policy." However, internal policy does not override a signed legal contract. Thankfully, the corporate live chat team was very kind, helpful, and professional. They escalated the issue immediately and opened formal dispute. Because the fees were completely uncontracted, they issued a refund for those uncontracted charges. If the local manager tries to bully you into paying for items missing from your paperwork, bypass them completely and demand a corporate dispute file number through Uhaul Live Chat online. They purposely take the phone off the hook and do not answer the phone they sent it to central reservations who can do nothing about your uBox that's at their facility. Staff could care less. I've had product stored there for four years and call once every 6 to 8 months and this happens every time. My unit arrived early, which as great however pictures had not yet been submitted for destination. Since I was traveling, I inquired about using Google maps. They advised "google maps can't be trusted". The dialogue went back and forth, with my advising that the delivery for the following day should be scheduled and I'd post pictures that evening. The conversation rated a (-5) in regards to service, professionalism and helpfulness. 04.25. At the scheduled time of delivery, I received a text that the unit was overweight and the delivery was cancelled. Yet another phone call back to the Anchorage dispatch where I was advised that I could rent a truck and tow the box to my residence - no other solutions. I presented the idea of removing items to bring the unit into weight and was advised that would be fine but the unit wouldn't be delivered that day and storage fee would incur. My detail is mild compared to the conversation. The dispatch center in Anchorage had zero customer service skills or concept of the impacts to a customer. The boundary location - amazing! Today our house was condemned due to the earthquake. A red notice is taped to the outside. Luckily we have a new place to go and U-Haul to help us move! This location is in a weird location on Boundary. Boundary is a curvy road that can be accessed from either Turpin or Boniface. I checked out the truck inside. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I checked the truck in through the website. It is a little involved but totally worth it if you want to turn it in after hours. The check in process does require a smart phone and several pictures. So do plan for that. It's not just and easy, "drop the keys off" kind of thing. Lots of great add ons and packaging materials inside the building. They also offer a free month of storage in their indoor storage facility with any rental purchase. It's nice in there! read more

PART 1: This review is first about the specific location and then goes on to discuss issues about the U-Haul Company. I rented a 6'x12' Van Trailer (as it is listed on my contract) back in May 2019. I was moving from Eagle River (as suburb of Anchorage), AK to Tunbridge, VT which is over 4400 miles. Fisrt when I called about a week out to confirm my reservation and availability of equipment I was assured that the equipment would be ready and that they would have enough time to clean and change out the tires on it. Again, the equipment I was renting was a 6'x12' trailer. Nest, when I went to this U-Haul location (5700 Boundary Ave. Anchorage, AK. 99504) there were no places to park except for the handicap spot, and of course I didn't park there. I just assumed they had a bunch of customers there so I parked where I could (which was out in the truck lot). When I went inside there were no customers, and it was then that I realized that the employees took all the available parking spots. I feel that is not professional and definitely doesn't show me as the customer that I matter and that you want my business. When I went to pick up the equipment on the 2May2019 they initially sent me out to the wrong location in the lot and did not walk out there with me to even check that it was ready to go. So I ended up walking back to get the manager who then walked out with me and it was obvious he was not sure where the trailer was located in the lot. Once we found it he assured me that it was ready to go and I took him at his word (FYI don't ever do that). I still did a quick walk around and didn't see and issues or damage that wasn't already logged. As I stated above, my trip was from Anchorage, AK to Tunbridge, VT was over 4400 miles so it goes without saying that I expected U-Haul to have at least looked at the tires, and changed out or replaced them if needed. In actuality, the tires on the trailer weren't fit to drive across town. Over the next nine days, we experienced three separate incidents involving issues with the tires - all of which lead to delays and out-of-pocket expenses, and one of which could have been a fatal accident. While driving through a heavy snowstorm in the Canadian Rockies of British Columbia on Day 2, we had a blowout on the passenger side of the U-Haul trailer. Thankfully the accident occurred near a "brake check" pull over area, where we were able to safely stop the vehicle and inspect the damage. Luckily, we had cell service (which was very spotty in the mountains in Canada), so we called U-Haul Roadside Assistance (UHRSA). They first wasted 30 minutes trying to identify our location via GPS, instead of accepting my description of the highway name and mile marker, or our distance from the next town. When they failed to identify our location, the UHRSA representative then asked how far away we were from the US border, which was at least two days' drive back the way we had come. After wasting nearly an hour on the phone with them, while the weather got worse, the snow accumulated outside, the sun set and temperatures started to plummet, we gave up on UHRSA and took matters into our own hands. Thankfully I had AAA; within an hour of contacting them, they sent a flatbed tow, loaded the trailer, and got us safely in to the next town, Fort Nelson, BC. When we arrived to town, the tow company informed us that there was a 24-hour tire repair shop in town that A had shown no urgency to help us during our first encounter with them, we had to pay for a new tire out of pocket - costing us almost $300. The same day that we had and replaced the first flat tire on the trailer, we also noticed that the remaining three tires were bald (i.e. exceptionally worn) and showed signs of dry rot. We contacted the manager of the Anchorage U-Haul location; his advice was to keep any receipts for out-of-pocket expenses incurred because of the trailer, and U-Haul would compensate us when the trip was complete. However, two days later the trailer developed another flat tire, this time on the front-passenger side. It must have been a slow leak, as it was not present when we checked into our hotel on 5May, but present when we checked out on the morning of 6May. From our previous experience with UHRSA, we gather that their customer service is neither knowledgeable nor timely in Canada; therefore, we paid for the flat tire to be patched so we could get on the road for the day (again out of pocket). That day we passed through Edmonton, Alberta, which had a U-Haul location. I called them as soon as we got on the road for the day, and told them we would need the remaining three bald tires replaced. They directed us to make the request through UHRSA, which we did; UHRSA told us that they had scheduled us an appointment at Kal Tire in Edmonton. Will be continued, look for PART 2. read more

The storage is a great one but if you are moving and they reccomend a mover by the name of Josh please turn it down. Josh is a crackhead that will destroy you stuff and xome up with thw wildest lies like the heat in your house made tthe furniture chip. And he over charges on the move. Also, he is not in the habit of finishing the job, so my advice is don't use him. read more

Employees stole from my mothers unit that was only occupied for a grand total of 7 days. The manager at this store had his employees bring the items back as we called APD. A employee named Cheyenne brought back some of my deceased fathers items but the remains of my father, grandmother and grandfather were not. The manager then told APD that there is an additional storage unit were the items may be (employees stashing stolen goods?) As of today we are still working with APD and waiting, incident report was filed with U-Haul 2/25/2021. Moral, do NOT rent here. read more

I have never had an issue with UHAUL previously anywhere I have lived. I ordered and paid for a hitch for my car in Feb, made an appointment for March. The appointment is canceled because the hitch is not in stock. But they keep my money and another few weeks go by nothing. I call UHAUL and you cant talk to the shop you call some main number and my credit card is refunded, but they have the hitch.. hmm.. should have been a red flag. I make another appointment, show up and the assistant manager that was nice enough said they dont have a hitch installer. So hour lost from work, ok, made another appointment. I take my car back for the 2nd time and they can't find my appointment, but they have already charged my credit card.. hmmm. They have the hitch but not the wiring, hmm I made an in person appointment with assistant manager. OK just put the hitch on. I leave the car so they can manage their day however they like. NOPE I get a call a few hours later the hitch doesnt fit... WHAT, like how is that even possible? I drive a newer car that has a hitch option from the dealer. I have now given them my make model year both online and in the store. Is there not something that says which parts to buy to assemble something? The hitch installer tells me I must have some "special" car that it doesnt work on. I call the dealer they laughed and said nope its not "special" , frames are frames. Back to UHAUL I go. The guys are nice but know nothing about hitches. The manager will not come out talk to me to refund my credit card that she charged the day before. Unbelievable. So I waited a few days to see if I had a credit on my card, nope. Dispute filed. Worthless. read more

Completely incompetent. I was promised to have a hitch installed in 3 hours max and it took over 6 hours. They never answer their phone and don't return messages or call when the company directs them too. I'll never go back. This means I'll spend twice as much to get the job done next time, just to avoid this place. read more
