Quick stop while waiting for our time at the Picasso museum. Tinto de Vernaos were light, refreshing and sparkly. We shared some patatas bravas and they were large crispy potato chunks slathered with the spicy red and cooling white garlic aioli sauces...really nice! Next time, we'll stay for a larger selection of tapas!

Pintxos are tapas prepared the Basque way and are an expression of 'miniature cuisine'. The Basques call their tapas pintxos, (pronounced peench-os) from the Spanish word pinchar, meaning 'to prick'. Banderillas,or long toothpicks, which get their name from the darts in a bullfight, hold it all together, and you normally pay per pick. WE were on a 'pintxos hunt', and we not only started, but stopped at Txirimiri. Txirimiri was located down the street from our hotel, located in the El Born neighborhood. Literally brick and mortar, this old-style cafe was warm and woody. Our first visit was in the early afternoon. The family was just coming in with the kids for an early lunch. We were welcomed and served immediately. The best part: Queensryche, Quiet Riot, AC/DC...this is our kind of place! Quick breakfast: Tortilla de patatas bravas: These tortillas are not like flour or corn tortillas we have learned to know from Mexico and the southwest. This delicious recipe is a spanish omelette with patatas bravas (potatoes in cayenne sauce). Amazing. Side of pa amb tomàquet (bread with tomato). Yum. Return visit, same day, pintxos time! We were recognized, seated, welcomed famously. The bartender treated us like family. He chatted with us about the restaurant, their love of American rock music, family, and about us. By night's end, they were streaming Mr. P's rock band across the bar! We of course ordered another tortilla de patatas bravas. But the star of the show was the pintxos! Glorious skewered snacks lined the top and bottom of the bar. There was no "service side". The bartender told us to "get back [there] and get the food"! Txistorritas, Navarra spicy sausage. Pernil (ham) croquettes. Pebrots farcits (peppers stuffed with squid and ink). Quail eggs. Cheeses. Potato. Peppers. Anchovies. I could not get enough of this place! Mr. P also took a keen liking to the cervesa de la casa, San Miguel. We left there family. We got lots of hugs and double-cheeked kisses. We will be back to visit our new family every time we are in Barcelona. We thank them for accepting us, and keeping us filled up - the heart AND the stomach.

    Too early for pintxos

We got there too early for the pintxos service, but when leaving we saw the huge pintxos being set out. No wonder this place is popular. Instead, we had 2 spanish beers and a ham & cheese sandwich and txistorra sandwich made with those great crusty rolls that you see all over Barcelona. Cost only 12 €. Cheap!! Totally recommend because it is not one of those ripoff tourist joints advertising "tapas" and then serving something that looks more like chicken McNuggets. This is serious pintxo-ville. On the edge of the Gothic Quarter and La Ribera.on Carrer de la Princesa between Jaume I metro stop and Picasso museum. Also, on the way to Ciutadella Park to see Cascada Monumental and Arc de Triomf.

This little hole in the wall was a gem! It had a huge menu but we didn't order from it. Instead we ordered from the huge selection of pintxos (tapas on top of bread with a toothpick) sitting on top of the bar! The pintxos had different variations of cured meats, cheeses, anchovies, spreads, olives, and peppers and were absolutely delicious! We tried every single one with beer and left absolutely stuffed. Our favorites included one with a mountain of cured meats on it and one with a delicious green spread. The bill only came to about $40. If looking for a fun food experience, I definitely recommend coming here, ordering a beer at the bar, and just grabbing whatever pintxos look good to you. At the end, they calculate your tab by counting the number of toothpicks on your plate.

I love a traditional little joint and this one certainly fits the bill! So traditional that it relies on counting sticks to know how much you've eaten. Trusting system which is great! Good food. Lots of choices. But mostly similar thing.

Some of the tastiest pintxos in Barcelona, but we were hungry and accidentally ordered more cooked stuff from the menu, which were quite big. Left very full. Every dish was well executed and very tasty. And local wines were very cheap.

Txirimiri offers a selection of maybe 15 different types of tapas on their serve yourself tapas bar. Upon grabbing a table or sitting at the bar, we ordered a bottle of cava - which was served in a champagne bucket - nice touch! There are plates at the end of the tapas bar - just grab one and pick what you want from the selection. The price is calculated by the number of toothpicks you have left at the end of your visit. Yummy food, laidback attitude.

More a neighborhood bar than a tourist stop two blocks from Picasso Museum.

The easiest way to convey our attitude towards Txirimiri is to reveal that a trip to BCN for us is not complete unless we have at least one meal here. Often times we have more. Txirimiri is not fine dining. It is good honest blue collar eats that satisfy. They feature Basque regional food seldom found outside of País Vasco. The prices are reasonable for Barcelona and the service (this place gets super busy) is excellent no matter how harried the staff may be. If we are in Barcelona, you can find us here. We will be back

From the value menu. Burger and drink €5.50. Menu doesn't state what kind of burger but it does taste good and juicy.

This is an awesome place for lunch, dinner or drinks. Great food and great prices, if not, the best prices I've seen for a tapas/burger bar so far in Barcelona. I ordered a burger with a drink from the value menu (*on during certain times), €5.50 total. Burger had an egg, caramelized onions, cabbage or lettuce (not sure), and a beef patty. Burger was tasty and very juicy. It also came with ketchup, mustard, and mayo packets if you want to add it to the burger. The beer was also tasted great. I'm not sure which one the waiter served but it was light coloured and translucent. Servers were very nice and helpful. The only thing that I wasn't sure about was the beef patty because it was a bit pink in the middle (In Canada, beef patties have to be fully cooked or else you could get sick) but maybe that's how you cook it in Spain.

    Good value menu

A roomy and friendly restaurant with a nice selection of tapas. There is a super-value €5,50 meal deal, which gets you 5 pxintos from the counter plus a drink (e.g. a glass of wine or can of soft drink). Also explore the menu as there are some great options there including the mushroom dishes. The staff a quite friendly too, and the ambience is very nice - a good blend of brick, wood and stone generates a rustic atmosphere that adds to the experience. There's free WiFi as well, so you can take advantage of any check-in offers that may be running...

Exactly what and how I want to eat all the time. Grab a plate, pick as much of whatever you want, go back for more if you want, and pay by number of sticks afterward.

I've had good tapas experiences and bad ones in Barcelona. Txirimiri was amazing!!! Seafood, red meat, vegetarian, dessert, this place has it all. It's also "buffet" style tapas priced per piece, so each person gets exactly what they want. Amazing place, reasonably priced.

    Gavin L.

Tapas galore. Omelette with potatoes were fantastic. Super authentic Catalan tapas. Very affordable too. Only 1.50€ per tapa.

The service was excellent, our server spoke English and knew so much about American pop culture. He even sang NSYNC songs to us while serving us dishes. As for the food let's get into it: - Lobster Croquettes (8/10) We've had a lot of croquettes this trip, but these were on another level, get one per person. - Paella (7.5/10) Different style of paella from other places we went. It was almost like a paella curry, which was still rich and delicious. - Squid Sandwich (10/10) This is hands down the best appetizer I've ever had. The squid was packed with flavor and the mayo sauce they used paired perfectly. Order one per person, and be prepared to order another to go. - Garlic Shrimp (8/10) Solid entree paired with sourdough bread. Dip that bread into the sauce and you'll be satisfied. - Aged Beef Steak w/ Foie Gras (9/10) This might be one of the best steak dishes I've had traveling abroad. It was cooked perfectly, and came with a potato crust on the bottom and Foie Gras on top. Definitely a must order. Overall a great experience, from the service and ambiance to the quality of the food, this is a must try when visiting Barcelona. Would I go again? Absolutely!

Cañete was booked out for 2 weeks straight, so we decided to risk it and see if we could get a spot as walk-ins; and were lucky enough to want less than 5 minutes before being sat at the "bar" in front of the open kitchen, which is honestly the best seat in the house IMHO. You get to see all the 'action' and interact with the friendly and often funny staff. Everything in the menu we tried was fantastic, but a few standouts for me were the squid sandwich (do yourself a favor and try it, even if you aren't a "squid person" the bread is fresh, and the butter garlic sauce they use should be sold in bottles at the supermarket), the lobster croquet was refreshing, and the aged beef steak with foie and truffle sauce was delicious and cooked to perfection.

Water is a very pricey item in Europe. We ordered three bottles of water at 2.30 EUR or 2.60 USD each. We did get 30% off our bill! The server was friendly, patient, polite, and very warm. I was definitely right on the mark as all restaurants I've walked by before dinner wasn't as crowded as this. And this place had a line out the door. Pan con tomate (toasted bread with tomato spread) was done sooo right here because they used crisp brioche bread and the tomato spread had a nice balanced ratio of olive oil blended into it. The patatas bravas (brave potatoes) took me back to the first time I had this in 2018. Such good crisp skin, soft fluffiness and that aioli mayo signature sauce on top - I swear I feel they make their own sauce for this dish. Grilled octopus here is special as instead of a tentacle - you get a fatty piece with multiple cuts of the octopus. Even better just as you would get multiple pieces of fatty toro in an omakase. I just loved the ease of dining in Barcelona where you share small intricate flavored plates with a glass of wine to balance these dishes. It was a nice long but roomier restaurant in the back. Very deceptive to the eyes but in a good way. You get to see the chefs cook near you that makes you appreciate the work of art put into the food. The restaurant is separated into two main areas, with an earth-tone color scheme that has a rustic, almost cave-like aesthetic. The cannelloni especially was a standout - definitely a unique dish, and the chicken was super flavorful. We opted for dessert, and got the feta whip cheesecake - this was great as well. The combination of tang and sweet was a good finisher to our meal. Service was great - everyone was friendly and our dishes were served at a good pace.
