Some of the best ice cream in Durham! There's lots of options (and it's very clear what is dairy free, nut free, etc.) and I appreciate the partially rotating menu. I came here with a large group and service was great and quick. The balcony is great (especially for watching concerts outside of Hi Wire). Other reviewers have mentioned that they don't do samples but the last time I was there it was limited to 2 samples (but it wasn't busy at all). A great addition to Golden Belt! (Be sure to check the portion sizes as the small is actually 2 scoops). read more

Delicious. We got the small cup with one scoop of cinnamon donut and another of sea salt chip cookie dough, both were deliciously creamy. The fun flavors also added chewy and crunchy textures. The Durham location is in this brick building with a nice lawn out front - a lot of people brought their dogs! Overall a great location to enjoy your dessert :) read more

So we made our rounds at Golden Belt this afternoon, and ice cream was the final stop! I was surprised to see so many flavor options and was pleasantly surprised to learn that I could get two different flavors in my small ice cream order. I enjoyed both flavors; chocolate peanut butter and chocolate turtle! I was impressed with the chunks of peanut butter but the chocolate turtle gets my vote-sooooo good. This is my go to place for ice cream in Durham. Two Roosters is located in a cute and developing plaza that has a lot of outdoor space to have a picnic on the grass or on large concrete steps. Two Roosters itself has a rooftop patio with tables that are shaded by umbrellas. Each month, Two Roosters introduces new, fun flavors that never fail to impress. Their ice cream is very creamy, and their incorporation of food chunks in the ice cream (for example, donut chunks in the coffee with chocolate donut flavor) makes this place very unique and extra tasty. Their single scoop is a rather large serving size, and they allow you to choose two flavors for it, making it easy to share a single with a loved one if you both are so inclined. :-) read more

Great location and good ice cream. I do think it's a bummer that you can't sample the ice cream because in my case, I ended up ordering an ice cream that I didn't really care for (the donut ice cream, which I thought just had an odd texture and flavor). In my opinion, it's not the best ice cream in Durham, but their flavors are fun and I hope they someday decide to let people sample so customers can make better decisions! read more

This ice cream shop is in a very cool location. I think this used to be an old factory or mill and there's a brewery and a pizza shop and this ice cream shop all in one location with a shared grassy area in the middle. I am dairy free and I had plenty of options honestly I feel like they give you a pretty big scoop for the prices which are decent. They have a cute small seating section downstairs, a cute small seating section upstairs and then an outdoor patio that's upstairs. All the staff was really great and friendly they required masks. Story Time It was a hot hot humid day. The kind where you are sticky and even the thought of ice cream seemed icky because you're thinking about the few melted drops, the stickiness around your mouth you can seem to wipe off. And would rather avoid it. BUT had two people with me who wanted it and I was so glad I got to enjoy it! The LOCATION was so surprising and cute. In the shade, rad, cool, chic vibe with the other shops around it. The ice cream was soooooo good. And I'm lactose intolerant! The cake come on top of the ice cream is such a unique idea. I've never had it like that before. It was so good. Yes it got a little sticky around my mouth, but I wiped it off and managed to find a restroom to wash the residue off. It is SOOO good. One of my favorite spots to grab a sweet treat in Durham. I love their flavor offerings from classic ones like vanilla, chocolate, cookies and cream to their more adventurous ones like pizza, there's something for everyone. Their ice cream is truly so delicious and the flavors are always on point. I love getting the waffle bowl, who doesn't love an edible bowl? Eating the crispy bits around the edges and then getting to the soft, icecream soaked center of the waffle bowl is my favorite part. I also enjoy that it's right next door to Hi-Wire and a pizza spot so I can grab a brew and a slice if I feel like it and people watch in the courtyard outside. Durham is blessed with some great local ice cream parlors like The Parlour and the new Rockwood Dairy Bar (not to mention rolled ice cream places and Latinx places). You can add Two Roosters to the list. I applaud them for opening during a pandemic. You can't go in and sit, but they will greet you at the entrance, take your order, and call our your name when ready. They have some regular flavors and some rotating seasonal ones and experiments. So far we've tried a pound cake ice cream, blackberry hibiscus ice cream (my wife's favorite), and coffee bourbon. Pricewise, they are in between the two local places mentioned -- at least for pints. They are directly across from Hi Wire Brewery (although if you're not familiar with the area, it may take you a while to get to the back of the Golden Belt campus). I will give all three of these places my business. read more

We were so excited to find that Two Roosters had opened in the Goldenbelt! With it being walking distance from our house and their new location opening right after I had shoulder surgery I can say we have been frequent fliers. We love all their wonderful special flavors and even though I'd previously disliked vegan ice cream we decided to give their pineapple upside down cake a try recently and it's AMAZING! More than that though it's their fantastic customer service that keeps us coming back. For example recently they put a handwritten thank you note in with our order of a couple pints and it was such a lovely touch. If you're in the area stop by, grab a cone, head across the courtyard and get a beer! You won't regret it! read more

I would say this is the best ice cream all around in durham. The strawberry honey flavor is very very good. The scoops are massive and the waffle cones are very tasty. I love the vibe of the two rooster in Durham because you can see people enjoying themselves at Hi-wire, J lights, and two roosters. I really enjoyed my two roosters ice cream. They had unique flavors that were super smooth and didn't taste as fake and overly sweet as other ice creams. It was a little more icy and less creamy than I may have liked. The Parlour is still my favorite in Durham but this is a née exciting addition. They have a few set of staple flavors and than a good set of seasonal flavors that rotate. They have a vegan flavor as well. Currently in covid they don't have the inside open. They have the flavors posted on the window and one group at a time can go in and order. There was only one person working on the Sunday night I went so it took a little time to get our ice cream since there were a few groups there but that was no problem for us. There is a lot of outdoor seating around this area and it is across from Hi-Wire brewery so you can bring the ice cream over and enjoy it at the brewery. They also have a rooftop patio which looks super fun and is very unique for an ice cream spot. They have kids scoop, a single scoop which is kind of deceiving because you can get two flavors in a single so it's not exactly two scoops, and a double. They also have milkshakes. The single was perfect for me and i tried the sea salt chocolate chip cookie dough which was a little too flavorless for me but the cookie dough chunks were good and I also had the coffee bourbon which was really tasty. read more

Ice cream for the win!! With this location right in the same space as Hi Wire brewing, you can grab your beer, grab your ice cream, and if a food truck happens to be there too, you have yourself a one stop shop!! And this ice cream will not disappoint. Cookies and Cream is one of my fav flavors here but their Coffee Bourbon is also pretty darn tasty too. Very creamy, thick ice cream, and it just tastes so fresh. This location makes shapes I believe, but I was first introduced to Two Roosters at the Durham Bulls stadium location where they made these incredible cookie ice cream sandwiches! I am still waiting for this location to make those cookie sandwiches and then this spot will be perfect! Not super cheap ice cream, but in my opinion the price is worth it. It is a small little shop and with COVID they will meet you at the door really for your order so be prepared to take it to go to eat in the open space at Golden Belt or out to your car. But yay for ice cream even in the winter!! read more

I love love love two roosters! Made with real ingredients (no cut corners!) And delightful new flavorings every season. They routinely have a monthly or seasonal theme where they collaborate with local businesses to bring unique crafty flavors. I especially loved their october non-dairy pumpkin pie flavor! And yesss they always have two or so non-dairy options along with the tried and true staple flavors. So so good. This local place warms my heart and cools my taste buds. Keep up the great work! Went here over the weekend for the first time and LOVED it. Our ice cream server was so nice and friendly, answering all my questions about the store's location and the other shops. Our family of six got child sized cups which ended up being plenty given how rich the ice cream was. I opted for the non-dairy raspberry brownie and was not disappointed! It's made with oat milk and was delicious. We can also highly recommend the Nutella flavor and the Brookie 2.0 (both of which are seasonal). Go try them today before they change the menu! read more

Two roosters is the best! They have the most delicious flavors & monthly rotating flavors that always make us visit at least twice a week. My last visit was the best and I wanted to thank the two employees who made it happen (I'm sorry I didn't catch your names!). My friends & I went last week, but we couldn't decide between a few flavors. After going back & forth for a while & asking the employees their options, they gave us all 3 flavors for the price of what we were hoping to get. Totally wasn't necessary, but I haven't stopped raving about them or their customer service since. They also opened their seating inside and upstairs which overlooks hi-wire and the surrounding area! It was nice to sit out there before the cooler weather came in. Basically, 10/10 recommend! Looking forward to going back this week! :) read more

Great flavors and was in an awesome spot to take the kids while hanging out at hi-wire. They have a small selection of flavors. I got a coffee bourbon flavored ice cream, the kids got chocolate and vanilla. The flavor is, taste wise, fantastic. The consistency is a little off, it's very icy and not super creamy. The kids scoop was $4. A little on the upper end price wise. Overall for flavor and service 4 stars, consistency and price cost the one star. read more

The name a little hard to catch, but it's a small greenish building immediately beside La Vaquita on Chapel Hill Road (with the giant cow on the roof). The outdoor area is quite nice, with a fenced outdoor area having swings and other seating/ space for families. We were greeted quite warmly when we arrived. They had maybe ~15 flavors of ice cream or similar (will return to that in a second) as well as other sweets like baklava. But this is not your ordinary ice cream shop-- the flavors were unusual. Cucumber, date, and others caught my eye, but I didn't try those. Unlike one Yelp reviewer's comment, when we went, there was both a regular pistachio as well as a vegan pistachio option. I got something different-- I tried the falooda... a Persian inspired ice-cream-like dish with rose syrup and small cooked noodles. The texture is slightly like an italian ice, but the flavor was great. However, there's more-- on a table off to the side, there were separate lemon and cherry flavors that we were invited to try adding to the falooda. Let me tell you-- either addition turned a good dish into a heavenly dish! Sooooo good. Try it, but only if you're open to "this isn't just ice cream". There were also some wafer cookies to the side we were invited to have with our respective dishes. Seating inside was stools at benches facing a thin window bar-- outside is nicer if you have a big group and/ or if weather is nice, but it was fine. I did stop by the restroom briefly, and it was clean, too. Overall, definitely plan to come back to this eastern-inspired ice cream shop, and I encourage others to give it a try too!

No matter what store front you walk into, the smell of freshly baked waffle cones will hit your nose instantly. Signature trademark of Jeni's (to me). I love that you can get a cone, waffle bowl, or just a triangle sample of a waffle in your bowl! The flavors are always changing, from season to season, with a few main ones always in the store. The ice cream is smooth and velvety- while several have an added texture, depending on what's mixed in (cake, brownie, caramel, etc). The store always has a line, but it moves fast!! Some of my absolute favorite flavors include the gooey butter cake, salted caramel, and double dough. They offer both dairy-free and gluten-free ice cream. Customer service is friendly, and they don't mind at all if you sample a bunch of different flavors! Love that you can buy pints here to go (and that I'm seeing them in retail stores like Publix now)!
