Two Rivers Cafe is a Basalt institution...the kind where locals return again and again and the waitress not only knows your name but also knows what your regular order is. I don't live in Basalt anymore but no visit is complete without a visit to Two Rivers. Their Huevos Rancheros is so good I won't order it anywhere else. Just make sure you order it with a big glass of pure Basalt spring water (the town's water supply is fed by a mountain spring) to cool you down. My dad always gets a short stack and my mom gets the French toast. Note: they don't take credit cards so bring cash... their is an atm across the street at the bank. read more

Service was pretty good. Flirty waitress made it fun. The omelette wasn't bad. But not accepting credit cards in today's community is just foolish. And then having to pay a charge to useTHEIR atm is ridiculous. Too many other great places to eat in this valley to waste my time and spend my money there. read more

Great meal! I went for a quick breakfast at 10:40 on a Saturday and there were plenty of tables (bluebird ski day). Ordered the Benedict special and the waitress happily accommodated my request for bacon instead of ham, and extra grits instead of English muffin. Thé hollandaise was nice and lemony, and eggs perfectly cooked for dipping bacon. Service was excellent with both waitresses offering me more water etc. Food came out super quick! We were staying at Basalt Mountain Inn which is also an excellent hotel and is just 1 minute walk from Two Rivers Cafe. This place is excellent and a must try for Breakfast. We traveled in the off season in October 2015 like we always do and I was very pleased with their food and service. This is a cafe owned by a local family and is a perfect place to dine before you leave for the day. You can also be in no hurry to pack up at the hotel because its a one minute walk you can go eat and then come back and pack and leave. We had the Huevos Rancheros, Tea, Orange Juice, Classic American Breakfast. The food was very wonderful. The Heaves Rancheros is a must try! I do think that they should give less potatoes on it, it might be to filling for a breakfast meal. I skipped some potatoes and asked for extra sour cream and got one extra over easy egg. They did not charge for the sour cream...it annoys me when places charge for sour cream. The HALF PORTION is more than enough and i have a big appetite. The orange juice and tea were also good and the pancakes were great as well. The cafe is home style cookin and there were local veterans hanging out there as well. The waitress was very nice made conversation with us and was wonderful. The locals are very very nice people here. As an 8th vacation to Colorado i will tell you *Learn how to drive like a maniac in Denver 75 miles is average even in the city. they are crazy.. *Stay in Basalt, its 30 minute drive from Aspen, you will find MUCH cheaper hotels and restaurants here with great service and help support this small community. *Go to Colorado in October, its off season, cheaper, you will see nature and meet locals not FUR and BOOTS *Please dont think you can leave Denver and drive to Aspen and come back the same day. it doable but not recommended, stay the night and leave the next day. same applies to Telluride DEFINITELY APPLIES TO TELLURIDE. *Don't be adventures and speed anywhere, especially at night. Just got back from avoiding 8 bucks at 3am drive down from Telluride. *Always take headache medicine with you, you will need it. *Please don't walk your dogs on high altitudes thinking they are not having breathing problems. its hard on the animals to adjust just like you don't push them it can cause serious health problems. read more

Disappointed! (1) they don't accept credit card, only cash or check, how inconvenient (2) food took so long. I would understand IF they were short staff, but I went in and they had more staff inside the restaurant. (3) we requested for sauce and didn't come so I had to ask again (4) didn't refill our water (5)worst of all the waitres hinted for a tip! I thought tip was given voluntarily based on great service!!?? How do you expect to give tip for a lousy service!? So... just to shut her up I went back in and check my wallet for more notes and gave her a tip. Only good was the food. read more

Diverse menu, a little something for everyone for breakfast. Badly in need of more staff, but for the crew they have they did an excellent job of being attentive and delivering excellent fresh food in good time, even with a large crowd. Nice little breakfast place. Although they were short handed the waitress hustled and appeared to keep everybody happy. The place was full and it looked like the manager/owner was running around filling water and coffee too. He told me the waitress was amazing and appreciated her handling things while one of the other waiters/waitresses took the morning off. This place was a firm staple for friday lunches. A great local joint w/ good greasy lunch & breakfast. Especially on Friday for the Chicken Fried Steak Special (If it weren't for this special it'd get 3 stars. The food/veggies isn't exemplary, it's just really good) Other Favorites include: The Chopped Sirloin : Essentially an open faced hamburger w/ mushrooms. Chicken in a Basket : Decent Fried Chicken The Gage : This isn't on the menu and the waiter won't know what you're talking about if you order it as such. Just ask for the Vegetarian w/ Turkey. Fresh Brewed Iced Tea! Tip: There is outdoor seating out back although it's not spectacular. Don't be affraid, just let your waitress (I'd say waiter if there was one) know you're out back. Have been eating here for 8 years. The last 3 times I've visited this establishment the service has really been a disappointment. I love friendly staff, but if you aren't efficient then you have no business in the hospitality industry. The blonde server who has been there for years is excellent, always working her butt off. The Chatty Cathy (newish) server (maybe the owners daughter or family member as she told our table) is friendly but when the restaurant is full & it's obvious they are slammed, Chatty needs to stop sitting at tables talking to customers. The last 3 times we have walked in, sat down, and waited and waited and waited to be acknowledged (we can see her standing around talking instead of moving along). When we are acknowledged by Chatty, instead of taking our order she decides to chit chat. Again, nothing wrong with friendly service (this valley lacks that) but what's the point of being at work if you can't do your job properly? The other servers look like they are sweating running around. Never Chatty tho. She always seems refreshed. The food is great and I love the old cafe feel. But sadly, my last visit did it for me. I refuse to wait 10 minutes to be acknowledged due to inefficiency, I can grab Starbucks coffee in less than 2 minutes. When 1 server lacks sense of awareness, the weight falls on the other employees and it really shows. read more

The food here was delicious. We had a breakfast burrito and an omelette. Both were great and I would have given five stars if it weren't for the frantic atmosphere and a dangerous encounter with a waitress. The restaurant was busy and the waitresses were working hard, but they were all frantically rushing through the restaurant the entire time. Two waitresses even ran into each other as they rushed from table to table. It seemed unnecessary to us and made for an uncomfortable atmosphere in the restaurant. One waitress came to deliver my hot coffee and hurriedly set it down right in front of my 8 month old baby in his high chair. Before I could move it, my son quickly grabbed at it and put his hand in the cup, burning his fingers. I was able to grab the cup away from him as he was pulling it over. The waitress didn't notice or apologize. Thankfully, our son wasn't badly burned. There really didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for the frantic nature of the restaurant and unfortunately it led to a very careless and dangerous mistake. read more

Food's not bad but not great either. Service is quick BUT our wait person held my water glass by the rim when filling it and serving us.... yuck! I always ask for a straw when I see that. She also got my order wrong and didn't ask how I wanted my eggs so I got sort of over easy -my eggs have to be thoroughly cooked! Fortunately I was able to switch with my husband. Another big no-no, one of the waitpeople was eating at the back counter in between services. I may come back but i'll try to remember the eggs thing and be responsible for asking. read more

I've been frequenting Two Rivera for 10 years or more. Coming from Houston, my family, friends, and I are used to great food (F.Y.I. Houston is only second to New Orleans!!) EVERYTHING is awesome here!! Do not come if you have a small appetite. The portions are huge and all is made from scratch. If you complain about the service, it's because you are an impatient Aspen Socialite. There is nothing wrong with it, and those ladies hustle! Grab the full order of Huevos Rancheros with green chile sauce. You will not be disappointed! Half order is available for smaller appetites. Look for specials because some are really awesome as well. This place was just OK. A lot of the locals gave it really high marks, but we found it to be just average. It's an old building, which gives it a unique feel, but it's not a "quaint" old, it's a "run-down" old. The portion sizes were enormous, and the food was pretty good for the most part. Another reason we are taking off another star though is because it's cash only. In this day and age, that's not acceptable. Especially for the price that you're charging for food! Increase the price by $.50 and start taking credit cards. Service is just OK. I could tell the servers were way overrun when we were there. They were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Nice enough, but not very friendly, and clearly stressed. My drink was forgotten, (never did arrive), and it took forever to get any service. I think we must have sat at our table for about 15 minutes before anybody came over to take a drink order. We went at about 11 in the morning on a Monday. Not awful, just not spectacular. read more

Stopped here on our way out of Snowmass. I had the huevos rancheros with beans and red sauce. It was so tasty and filling. Service was excellent and fast. It's not a fancy place but very clean and comfortable. I highly recommend this place for breakfast. read more

While the food was good, I have to give only two stars because the service was terrible. Took at least 10 minutes after ordering to get a cup of coffee, then I had to get up and pour my own refill, because the waitress was no where to be found. The other waitress saw me get my refill, and never said a word. Also, this place has been in business for over 30 years, and they must be using the original cheap silverware, which is bent and uncomfortable to use. read more
