In addition, the job came in almost 3x the quoted price AND we received zero customer support or communication from the franchise ownership when we experienced problems (read below for details). The negative vibes started when their team arrived the morning of our move with only 2 people and no packing paper, no boxes, no markers for labeling, etc. Although the pack out had been confirmed with College Hunks' scheduler and main POC (his name was Alexander - he oozes confidence but he is not accurate, effective or helpful in a negative situation) two days prior the team didn't get the memo and thought they were just there to load a truck (it was supposed to be a pack out and load job). We had completed a detailed on-site meeting/walk thru with their scheduler, Alexander, and discussed picture boxes, wardrobe boxes, etc. so it wasn't that the company had never laid eyes on the job. The lead packer, Ethan, did get on the phone when I told him the actual scope and he quickly got supplies and 2 more people to our site, which was great, but it went downhill from there. If that had been the only issue I would not be leaving this long winded negative review. When we got to our destination we unpacked box after box after box with ZERO packing paper. Most items had not been wrapped or protected at all. All they did was take drawers and shelves of items and throw them into a cardboard box and seal it up. I had many damaged and broken glass, wood and ceramic items on the other end. I will acknowledge there was 1 packer, named Ethan, that did use packing paper and attempted to label boxes (after he borrowed a marker from us and after we asked them to label). He was the packer in our line of sight most of the day so we had no idea the others were not packing correctly or labeling anything. Ethan was great and had a good attitude all day - if all of their employees behaved like Ethan it would have been a very different move. Movers should know this but when you pack a truck for a long distance move and the boxes have no packing paper or internal support (and they're only 1/2 - 3/4 full) they all start to collapse and crush down from weight above as the truck drives and bounces. This is why we had so much damage. None of our boxes were labeled and the final straw was their cheap packing tape wasn't sticking to the boxes so as the movers at the destination site picked up boxes they were falling apart and collapsing on them. Items were falling out onto the ground as they tried to move stuff inside. I reached out to Alexander several times during the pack out, and also while we were unloading, with photos and expressed our disappointment and concerns and he assured me that the franchise owner would reach out within 24-48 hours to discuss what happened. Well, it's been over 2 weeks and crickets - not a single text, call or email. So it's clear their upper management really doesn't care about customer service. They got their 3x money and with job over we don't matter to them anymore. Take this review as a beware - they look great at face value but their team is not trained, equipped or supported by upper management.

They showed up on time, didn't need a lot of direction, and were super safe, careful, well-stocked with supplies, and efficient. Almost as important, they were kind and professional with my building manager and other residents. And Anthony has some impressive driving skills! He backed a 26' truck down into a tight driveway and into the INSIDE corner of a curved slope. I've never even seen anyone do that with a smaller truck.

Leaders - The Movers from Hell…read more We recently contracted with Leaders to pack-load-move-unload our household from Cincinnati, OH to Columbus, OH. Calling the experience an unmitigated disaster is an understatement. The problem, as we understand it, began during the walk-through by the Leaders representative. Evidently, he grossly underestimated the size of our household. We even contacted Leaders twice before our move date to ask about two pieces of furniture that seemingly were not on the inventory. Both times we were assured that Leaders, being the professionals that they are, not only perform accurate estimates, but also plan for such possibilities. When packing day arrived, the crew was improperly supplied: not enough packing tape, and 20" garment boxes with 24" bars. Yep; each garment box had a 4 sharp edged bar sticking out. And, yes, every piece of furniture packed next to a garment box came off the truck with new, deep scratches. The packing was haphazard; lampshades placed in the bottom of boxes then filled with books - all destroyed, gardening tools packed with couch pillows, etc. Even worse then the crew's treatment of our possessions was their treatment of my wife. Their rude, arrogant, borderline abusive treatment was inexcusable. Leaders management, after repeated calls, finally responded to be present and oversee/prevent further abusive interactions. Towards the end of day two, a Leaders manager approached me for an additional $600. Evidently, Leaders' guaranteed, not to exceed cost contract is not a guarantee. Essentially, after 90% of our possessions were packed and loaded, we were faced with an extortion demand: pay an additional $600 or we will not pack/load the last 10% of our possessions! We paid; this was extortion; we had no choice. We insisted on a new crew to unload the truck, which did proceed more smoothly. Beyond the $1000+ in breakage and damage, the abusive treatment of my wife (I was absent on day 1), and the last minute $600 extortion, Leaders also failed to reassemble items they disassembled; which was part of the contract. The unloading crew was unable to locate the hardware; porch furniture, picture frames, and a china cabinet. We had a choice of movers. We choose poorly. Leaders was not the cheapest, nor are they a monopoly - learn from our experience and avoid this most unprofessional of moving companies.

These movers were extremely unprofessional and ACTUALLY GHOSTED ME MID-MOVE. The story: I booked this company to move my household goods from one house in Cincinnati to another about a mile away. I described the contents of my house when I booked them, but there was no follow up or pre-visit to the house either in person or facetime. When I called the day before the move, I was assured they had looked through pictures of my house online and were able to handle the job. At no time was I warned that this could be more than a one day job or that they had any question they could carry out the move in the time promised. This was important since I had booked cleaners for my house for the day after the movers so I could turn over keys the day after that. On the day of the move, it quickly became apparent that they did not have enough men or trucks to carry out the move in one day. Moreover, the movers spent the day alternately suggesting that I was to blame for having too many possessions or that the owner was responsible for habitually failing to accurately assess beforehand what manpower and trucks were needed for jobs. Regardless, the crew and owner insisted on finishing sharply at 5 pm, leaving at least half of my house still to move. The movers said they would be back next morning to move the rest. When I asked the owner if he would give me some discount on the rest of the move given that he had so underestimated what was needed to complete the job in the day promised, he angrily told me that he had no responsibility and that I should have known it would take longer--and then he hung up on me. When I showed up to my old house the next morning to meet the movers, I found out they had left valuable furniture outside overnight. And then: THEY DID NOT SHOW UP TO COMPLETE THE MOVE. . . AND THE OWNER DID NOT ANSWER ANY OF MY PHONE CALLS. By some miracle, I was able to find some movers (Clark and Sons) for that day who worked until midnight to get me moved. These guys were amazing. They did all of the things that Affordable Movers did not. They were highly professional and extremely kind to me throughout. They worked together well, assured me they were there until the move was completed, treated my furniture carefully (Affordable movers were responsible for some terrible scratches on my furniture), brought in another worker when they realized they needed more help. My experience with Affordable Movers was one of the worst that I have had with any company. They added incredible stress and trauma to a normally challenging time in anyone's life. Finally, given that I had to hire another company for a further thirteen hours, they were not very affordable at all.

His rates were fair and affordable and his work ethic, irreproachable. Rob knew the chaos of the move he was assisting with and didn't flinch at all. In fact, he and Brandon eased my stress and jumped right in and took care of everything in an organized and efficient manner. The large, antique, heavy furniture made for a terribly hard day of lifting but Rob and Brandon got the job done without complaint. They made what was one of the worst days, entirely bearable and a success. Many times over, these two men went above and beyond, never wavering from the job at hand and the personal service they had promised. By day's end, they felt like family. I could not have asked for better people or more dedicated service.
