I'm having a hard time with all the 5-star reviews for this place (which is solely why we chose it). The salad was great, the wedding cake dessert was amazing, but the in between was mediocre at best. My steak was tough (even though cooked medium rare) and both my potatoes and my companion's were undercooked and still slightly crunchy. I'm fine paying $$$$ for food that is worth it. After all, you're not only paying for quality food but also trained personnel to cook and serve it. Our old favorite steakhouse was Prime 1000 but unfortunately it went bye bye. We'll give this place another go and hopefully I can update my review to something better. read more

This place has a weird vibe; not sure what they are going for. Have eaten here four or five times since we live very close. The salad is gross. The steaks are good - but I think Fleming's are much better. It is probably because the overall dining experience at Flemings is better along with the sides. The sides at Twisted tree are very poorly executed.. asparagus hard, cold blah.. Brussel sprouts, hard and blah.. and the salad is clearly a way for them to not deal with making a real salad. The bread is also awful. So if you want to pay $50 for a steak only then it is okay. read more

We went to Twisted Tree last night for the first time. It was a terrific dining experience from start to finish. It has a very casual and friendly (almost industrial) look and feel to it. As for the food, the onion ring starters, the salad with fantastic house-made dressings, the very tender steaks, the great sides, and the house-made wedding cake, every course was really delicious! Service was very friendly, attentive, and just spot on. It's a unique place in that you are in this nice, but very casual setting, then get this absolutely fantastic food and service! Amazing, amazing, amazing food. Lobster bisque could be eaten by the gallon, huge complimentary entree salad, and literally fork tender filet mignon. I honestly cut my filet with my fork just to see if I could. It was perfection. My only knocks would be price point and overall atmosphere. This critique basically boils down to fine dining prices in a casual/non-fine dining decor and table setting. Course to course: Onion rings: These were good/every day to me. Highlight of the dish is the spicy sauce. Crab rangoon: Better than "typical" rangoons that are considerably lighter than expected (in the best way possible). Sweet and sour sauce also a highlight. Lobster bisque: Yes. If you eat one thing, eat this. Sweet notes of butternut squash and carmelized butter with large chunks of lobster. Chicken involtini: Tasty, unique dish with perfectly prepared risotto. 12 oz Filet Mignon: Crispy seared, fork tender goodness. May well be the best steak I've eaten. Grand batter dipped lobster tail: Light, sweet, and tender are the adjectives here. Cherry chocolate bread pudding: More of a pound cake than a typical bread pudding, but tasty none the less. We paired with the vanilla, house made ice cream, which was in a fierce battle with the bisque for my favorite part of the meal. Wedding cake: Angel food cake esque layers with light buttercream. We paired with the butter pecan, house made ice cream, which was also delicious, but not beyond the stratosphere like the vanilla. Overall: I enjoyed the meal immensely and will certainly return. I will likely stick to the menu version of filet and lobster (6oz and petite respectively), but will make sure I start my night with the bisque and end with the vanilla ice cream. read more

My wife and I visited this restaurant on our first night in Missouri after several Google searches indicated this was the highest reviewed steakhouse in the area - now we know why. After locating the restaurant (it was a bit tricky - located at the far end of the Holiday Inn parking lot) and utilizing the complimentary valet parking service, we were pleasantly greeted inside by the hostess. Despite a full house, we were seated within 5 minutes. We were seated by a man who seemed to be the son of the owner. He was very informative about the ages of the steaks and let us know that our waitress and her assistant would be right over. Sure enough, we were greeted by both rather quickly to get our drink and appetizer orders. I had a St Louis sour - excellent if you like Makers Mark. We also had the fried lobster bites; we thought for the $20 price tag that only receiving 6 pieces of rather small pieces of lobster over a bed of fried shoestring potatoes was a bit steep - we thought the appropriate serving would have been at least 8 pieces for the price. Despite this, my wife and I both enjoyed the lobster bites and the small touch of a butter holder with a lit candle underneath to keep it warm. We ordered the 18 oz Kansas City Strip, cooked medium. Each entre came with a family style (bowl) of salad, one side, and fresh bread - all included in the listed price of the steak. We chose a caesar salad and au gratin potatoes. The salad was excellent and the bread was a french baguette served warm in a brown bag with soft whipped butter (also excellent). The steak arrived with a bit of a display where the server placed the steak on a plate (from a pan that seemed to be heated by a flame). The server poured fresh au juis on the plate with the steak before serving it. The potatoes were served in a cast iron pan and resembled the look of lasagna. The steak was cooked to a medium as requested and was very flavorful; the potatoes were flavorful, as well, but we didn't get to enjoy them as much as we were fairly full. Overall, the experience lived up to our expectations. We feel we landed at one of (if not the) best steakhouse in the area, and would definitely return on our next visit to Missouri - especially to try the wedding cake dessert that we failed to save room for! read more

This is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The food was amazing, and the atmosphere was classy, yet comfortable. Our server Madelyn was the absolute best. She was attentive and very sweet. She even read my reservation comments that it was my boyfriend's birthday, and had a cake with sparklers delivered to our table. We had such a great experience and can't wait to come back (we'll try not to eat so much next time;-) Thank you Twisted Tree for a great experience. I made a special trip for the great onion rings and deep fried lobster tail. Those 2 things were great. Their caramelized brussels sprouts were simply brussels sprout leaves that appeared to be boiled. Atmosphere was nice. Waiter was luke warm at best. Had very little personality. This is the second time my husband and I have been to Twisted Tree and we loved it just as much as the first. We went for a date night the first time and sat in the bar and had about the friendliest bartender we've ever had. We decided to try a bunch of the appetizers and all of them were exceptional. The Twisted Shrimp had amazing flavor and not too spicy at all and the oysters were huge. The gooey butter chocolate cake was like a mix between an uncooked brownie (yum!) and gooey butter cake. Truly rich and unbelievably delicious. We took the kids tonight and sat in the restaurant and the service was again very attentive. The staff were at our table all night but not obtrusive. Everyone was very nice. The manager came by twice. We had dinners and my husband said it was the best steak he's had in a long while. The kids loved their dinners too. Great dining experience. Second time visiting Twisted Tree. Once again was amazed by the food. Onion rings are the best. The garden salad was so good. I want the recipes for the house dressing and those croutons. Had fried lobster and 12 oz filet. Both were excellent. Ordered dessert as it was my birthday. Apple cobbler with ice cream was delicious. Homemade ice cream, 3 scoops, was way too big to eat it all. Can't wait to go back. Must try it for lunch. read more

Quite possibly my new favorite place. Went here with my wife for our anniversary. We started with the crab Rangoon and onion rings. Crab Rangoon were some of the best I ever had. The onion rings were very good but onion rings. Next was the salad. Salads with entrees are "family style" aka all you can eat. Make sure you don't. You will want to, but you need to save room for the entree, which will be hard because this is a good salad. Home made white vinaigrette and a home made French are the choices of drawings (both served with salad so use them both...worth it). Now my wife and I split the 24 oz ribeye. Wow. As tender as a filet mignon but so much more flavor. There is no marinade or steak sauce as the steak doesn't need it. Just table service of the steak with warm au jus. read more

Do not let the Holiday Inn fool you! This is not the hotel restaurant! Come on around to the door, give the valet (evenings) your keys and delight in the sure knowledge that you will be dining well. We hadn't finished dining before we were scheming on reasons to make that hour drive again! Thanks to Andy and an attentive Busser, we were well cared for throughout the experience. The Cesar Salad, served family style was cold, crisp, garlicy and addictive. A studied blend of creamy dressing, sharp parmesan and romaine with house made, melt-in-your-mouth croutons. Agreed, we could come back for just the salad. The individual serving sides: White cheddar au gratin potatoes, seasoned corn and steamed broccoli were well seasoned with flavors that naturally paired with the beef. A bit of a miss on the Brussel Sprouts which although nicely chopped were a one-note char. Of course, the reason to go to a Steakhouse is the meat and here's where Twisted Tree shines with perfectly cooked, flavorful and tender aged beef. In case you were wondering how long your cut has been aged, check the chalk board on the wall. Do save room for desert. You can't go wrong with either the (big) wedding cake or chocolate gooey butter cake served with a rich, deeply vanilla ice cream. Tea drinkers take heart. The full-bodied ice tea is brewed on site. Hot tea selections are from Mighty Leaf will water served in a mug and small pot at a mid-range temperature. We've had some mighty fine steak dinners across the country, Twisted Tree finally puts St. Louis on the top-ten map. read more

What a lovely steak house. Everything is super fresh and made from scratch. They have a cart to deliver the steaks, keeping them at the perfect temperature. Then the jus gathers in a pool, for the server to ladle onto your plate. Even our kids' chicken tenders were unusually delicious. read more

This was our first visit to the Twisted Tree. We loved it all - the salad, steaks, lobster, shrimp, the side dishes, and the Wedding Cake desert. I read from the previous Yelp reviewers to make a reservation. I did and I would repeat that recommendation to others. We are definitely returning to the restaurant when we are in town. So good! This is strictly regard the wedding cake dessert. I'd read so many reviews about how wonderful it was, I decided to stop by and grab one to go. Well, for a $10.00 ($11.00 with tax) piece of cake with ice cream, I must say I was very disappointed. Granted it was a generous portion and three full layers of white cake with a lot of icing, but the cake itself was really dry and the icing was just an okay buttercream. I expected much better and I should have expected better from a $10 piece of cake. Very sad. read more

Everything about our experience at Twisted Tree exceeded all expectations! Seven of us got together for a birthday celebration. All of us enjoyed every minute of our visit. In anticipation of the entrees, we skipped appetizers. Best ever Caesar salad served family style with a fresh garden salad for those not wanting the Caesar. Both were delicious. The steaks, pork chop, prime rib and French fried lobster and all of the side dishes were all excellent. There is an extensive and reasonably priced wine list. Dessert was outstanding! The birthday girl shared a complimentary large piece of wedding cake served with house made ice cream. We also ordered raspberry and cherry cheesecake. All definitely work the calories.
