First time here and overall a solid experience. This is counter-service style. You walk in, order off the menu or board, pay, grab a sign with a celebrity on it (we had T-Pain), then seat yourself while you wait for your name to be called. There wasn't much interaction with the staff beyond taking our order, which is fine for this type of setup. There's plenty of indoor seating, a nice outdoor area, and bar-style seating as well. One of the fun touches is the pickle station with barrels of sliced pickles ranging from dill to spicy, plus a variety of sauces like chipotle, honey mustard, and barbecue. The drink dispensers are themed too, with sweet and unsweet tea featuring Iced T, and a watermelon iced tea with Harry Styles. The fries were hand-cut and very good, easily my favorite part of the meal. I did a build-your-own burger with lettuce and tomato. I missed two important things on the menu my first time ordering: they offer wagyu, buffalo, and game meats, and burgers are cooked medium-well unless you request otherwise. Because of that, my burger was tougher than I prefer, which was on me. I will say the burger didn't seem very seasoned, but I'm not writing this place off. Burger was good but the overall experience was horrible. Sat on the patio overlooking the lake. The music was so inappropriate saying f words and disguising things. Very inappropriate for a restaurant where kids are eating. Ordered the fried carrots which were good but the sauce cup literally has 1/8" of sauce in it. When I went inside to complain about it they made me buy ranch. Said management makes them do that. My wife ordered the big fat Greek salad which when it finally came out it was missing 1/2 of the ingredients that are advertised. The onion rings were cold, and when we asked for fresh ones, she brought us a plate of greasy cold ones again. The buger was Luke warm, so we just gave up. We also noted that management has failed to ensure proper cleaning of the basic tables. The condiment bottles were caked with Goop, as was the salt shaker. A really cool and fun spot with very good burgers and good overall service. We were just passing through Abilene during a road trip, and wanted a quick (and hopefully yummy) dinner. Twisted Root Burger did not disappoint! The restaurant is clearly pretty new, spacious, bright, and fun. They have a variety of burgers and other sandwiches to choose from, along with some salads. The service was friendly and quick, although there was a bit of a wait for the food to be ready. That is understandable though, since they make everything to order and the place was a little busy. Still, we didn't mind waiting since the place was fun and they have a free pickle bar with a variety of flavors. They give you a buzzer so you know when your food is ready, and each features the name and photo of a celebrity. This makes for a bit of fun while you're waiting for your food, since the announcer has a little fun with some of the names, even getting patrons to "sing along" with some of them. I had the Big Tex burger, and it was very good with a nice blend of flavors and textures. The fries were pretty good too. My wife had a salad with chicken breast, which was also good. In addition to standard ketchup and mustard they have three "specialty" sauces at the table. The Root Beer BBQ Sauce tasted similar to A-1 Steak Sauce to me. The Ancho Chipotle Ketchup was as expected and good. The Horseradish Dijon Mustard tasted to me exactly like the spicy mustard common in Chinese restaurants. Overall we had a very good experience here. The food was good and the ambiance was fun. There is outside dining available, and a nice little pond area to wander around in back. Welp, we won't be back to Twisted Root. We ordered a chicken sandwich & a caesar salad. Ordered at 8 pm and didn't get our food till 8:50. While I understand a long wait if it's busy but there were maybe 25% of their tables taken. Their attitudes sucked and even people after us got their food so that was super frustrating. We kept getting the "10 more minutes" anytime we asked about when it would be out but almost a whole dang hour for a place that we aren't even being served or waited on. Our first time at this Twisted Root but it was just as good as the DFW locations! Not cheap burgers considering they don't come with fries or a drink but they were decent size and perfectly cooked! 2 of us split the Lots-A-Shroom burger and I wasn't too hungry so I got a kids burger + lettuce and tomato (only a little smaller than the regular ones but cheaper and comes with fries)! We ate an the patio which is super nice (depending on the weather) and everyone was very nice and kept the place very clean! What a sorry excuse for what used to be a great experience and a waste of money at Twisted Root Burger Co. in Abilene, Texas. First and foremost, it's unacceptable that the burger I was served tasted and looked like it had been sitting under the heat lamp for a week. This restaurant, that prides itself on its burgers should never serve a stale, unappetizing dish. Additionally, the fact that the fries were nothing more than bits and pieces shows a lack of attention t o detail in the kitchen. To make matters worse, it was ridiculous they were out of most beer options. It's understandable that a restaurant may run out of a particular beer from time to time, but to be out of most options simply shows a lack of attention to detail by the management. In addition, the lack of condiments on the table shows laziness by the staff. A restaurant should always have basic condiments readily available for their guests. This shows a lack of preparation and attention to detail on the part of the manager and staff. If that wasn't enough, the flavored pickles looked like they had been played in by children and at the very least, simply unappetizing. This restaurant, who used to take pride in the appearance of all of their dishes, including the garnishments, has taken a dive. Finally, the order attendant and bartender looked at me like I was a nuisance. It's the responsibility of the restaurant staff to make their guest feel welcome and valued. Overall, this Twisted Root Burger Co. was far from satisfactory. It's clear that the restaurant has a lot of work to do in order to improve the quality of their food and service. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone based on this experience. I should have turned around and went to Fuzzy's Tacos next door when what used to be a waiting in line experience, was fairly empty. My dad took me here, so I hope he never sees this, because I'm about to sound super ungrateful! I will never go back to this place, even if someone else is paying, again. When we went to sit, every table was dirty, but only like two were occupied. We had to choose the least dirty table and wipe it off the best we could. It took a while for our food, but it wasn't extremely long. While waiting we got our mayonnaise packets, and pickles. The pickles are in these huge barrels and warm. The whole restaurant was actually uncomfortably warm. I noticed my dad's chips were very dark, but I didn't say anything. There is a "warning" that your burger will be slightly pink in the middle, which is fine with me. Mine did not have any pink, and was pretty well done, but I wasn't going to make a fuss about that. What set everything off was my daughter commented that her chicken sandwich was extremely salty. I told her, it was probably just the seasoning. When she was pouring her ranch on the sandwich ( they forgot to add it in the kitchen, so they gave her a little container) I noticed the chicken was very, very dark. I took it up to the counter and asked them if that was the standard way they cooked the chicken, he said yes, we have to get it to certain temperature. I said, I understand that, but it was taken way too far, or they have very dirty oil, because the dark chips and dark chicken were unacceptable in my opinion. I used to be a fry cook, and if I would have sent something that dark down the line, it would have been thrown back down at me. Anyways, he did offer to remake it, but I said what's the point if it's going to be the same. My dad wouldn't tell me how much it cost, but I'm sure it was too much for the low quality food it was. My burger wasn't horrible, but it was far from great. My dad says his was ok, and I asked if his chips tasted over cooked and he said yes. Took a client to eat there today. First time we met in person. Never been and heard the burgers were good. Sat outside to enjoy the water atmosphere. Just as we started to eat, a fat six inch rat came up to our table. He was very friendly. My client reported it to the manager who replied "oh yes we have several- they come from the water." The fat rat was actually living underneath the outdoor trashcan that was overflowing with trash and dirty dishes. I'll call inspector on Monday. For just opening, this place was great! Got the treat-yo-self fries and the western burger paired with the perfect marg and Michelob ultra. It was delish. This place is so close to being excellent. We both got the "Gosh Jam It" burger. The goat cheese and chipotle sauce were great, the tomato-Onion jam was perfect though a little more of it would have been better. On a fresh soft brioche bun, then there was the burger itself. I was so disappointed it was so dry that it was almost grainy. Both of ours were! It's a strange contradiction to have the most amazing toppings and buns with such a blah burger. Just opened this past Monday (9/12/22) after being delayed a year or so due to COVID setbacks. We have been several times to locations throughout the DFW area. We have always been pleased with what we have ordered, even so far to say that it is one of our favorite burger joints when we travel. We have anxiously been awaiting the opening of "our own." We we're invited to a special VIP event held for ACU and ACS employees. Atmosphere: The space is quite large with ample amounts of seating. There is seating at the bar, inside, and a large seating area outside. I should mention that it is located in the Allen Ridge Center which has become and amazing place for meeting friends and enjoying the outside areas. The outdoor eating area just about as large as the inside area and since it is facing East, it is shaded from the hot afternoon sun. The entire area is also well covered. 1 Star Service: The marketing team was present for the VIP evening and were EXTREMELY friendly and knowledgeable. They answered several questions and were handing out coupons and menus while we waited in line. The line was very long, but they moved us through very quickly. We were towards the middle/end of the line and still did not have any trouble finding a table. Food took considerably longer to get than it did getting through the line, but that was completely understandable with the sheer volume of people going through, not to mention that all of the employees are new and still learning the system. After you have ordered you are given a buzzer with either a famous person or fictional character pictured on it. This is your identity for the evening as they call out your order. For many of the characters they will throw in a little humor when they call your name. We were Dolly Parton ( I was honored) and when they called us they said, "Dolly Parton, your order is ready. You have some VERY big.......burgers." 2 Stars Food: So on to the real meat of it. (I'm here all week) Twisted Root starts with a 1/2 pound patty. I feel this is the perfect amount for making a big burger that can hold plenty of add-ons while still being manageable while eating. They have a variety of patties from beef, chicken, turkey (exceptionally good), chickpea (for all you bark eaters), and Wagyu, to game meats that are different for each area such as elk and bison (I even visited once in DFW and Ostrich was on the menu!) So you never have to get the same thing twice. They offer a pre-made menu of burger favorites, from the "All-American" (bacon and American cheese), the "Lots-a-Shroom" (mushrooms and Swiss), and the "Big Tex" (cheddar, quac, fried onion strings, and chipotle sauce) to items such as "Tootsie's Hot Chicken" (Nashville hot sauce, bread & butter pickles, and slaw). They also let you be the mad scientist and allow you to build your own personal burger using any of their ingredients as you see fit, so feel free to design the perfect "you" burger. They are also very well know for a few other unique items, namely their Shakes/Floats, handmade condiments, and house made huge tubs of pickles! The pickles are especially good. Dill, Bread & Butter, Ranch (which seemed especially popular), Atomic (which looked very menacing in its bright red tub brine), and Sweet Spicy were the offerings this evening. So tasty even just on their own. We ordered an "All-American", a "Lots-A-Shroom", and a "Classic." All were cooked perfectly, the cheese on each was perfectly placed as to cover the whole patty (quite a feat), and veggies were placed on the side so as not to get soggy while sitting on a melted piece of cheese. Small details that matter. None of us could find a fault in any of our dishes. We finished them off with classic hand cut French fries and one order of Cheese fries (melted cheddar on top.) it's not often I give 5 stars but this meal deserved it. Flavor was outstanding, burger size would fill up even a hungry teenage boy, and all of the sides and condiments were fresh. Couldn't ask for much more. 2 Stars Overall: So happy to have them open a space up in our town. I don't think they will be disappointed with turnouts. They are putting out extremely fresh food with a great attitude in a welcoming space. Quite the recipe for success. Highly recommend and we will be back many times over I am sure. read more

Worst margarita I've ever tasted. Ever. Basically sugar water. Undrinkable. Let the bar tender know. He offered an extra shot of tequila. Had some excuse about the limes not being juicy or something. Still tasted like sugar water. I'm not convinced that he actually gave us tequila. None of us finished them. Went back to the bar a third time to ask how the margaritas were made and taste the tequila. No effort to make new ones or speak to anyone. Could've cared less that we were unhappy with our drinks. The disgusting margaritas set the tone for the night. Burgers were lame. Over-cooked and bland. Greasy buns. Our sides of fries and onion strings were not sides. They were more like garnishes. A tiny handful and greasy as hell. Keep in mind, you order these separate from the burgers, so they should be served separately and plentiful. The pickle station was nasty. Broken lids, sticky and just plain gross. Condiments were empty on our table. It was just a mess from beginning to end. Only good thing was the location and ambiance. Pretty cool looking restaurant and bar, but that's about it. The girl at the register was pleasant. We always loved the Twisted Root in San Angelo, so this was a HUGE disappointment.
