Build your own - A cheeseburger with melted cheese on a beef patty is placed on a black tray, alongside a sandwich with a bun and a side salad with lettuce and tomato. French fries are spread around the burger, and the tray is on a wooden table. The image captures a casual dining presentation with typical American fast-food items.

First time here and overall a solid experience. This is counter-service style. You walk in, order off the menu or board, pay, grab a sign with a celebrity on it (we had T-Pain), then seat yourself while you wait for your name to be called. There wasn't much interaction with the staff beyond taking our order, which is fine for this type of setup. There's plenty of indoor seating, a nice outdoor area, and bar-style seating as well. One of the fun touches is the pickle station with barrels of sliced pickles ranging from dill to spicy, plus a variety of sauces like chipotle, honey mustard, and barbecue. The drink dispensers are themed too, with sweet and unsweet tea featuring Iced T, and a watermelon iced tea with Harry Styles. The fries were hand-cut and very good, easily my favorite part of the meal. I did a build-your-own burger with lettuce and tomato. I missed two important things on the menu my first time ordering: they offer wagyu, buffalo, and game meats, and burgers are cooked medium-well unless you request otherwise. Because of that, my burger was tougher than I prefer, which was on me. I will say the burger didn't seem very seasoned, but I'm not writing this place off. I'll definitely be back, mainly for the fries and to try a buffalo burger cooked medium.

Ordered a burger with light mustard, pickles, lettuce and fries, just to get no fries, a tomato, no mustard, a thin piece of soggy lettuce.

ordered a burger w/ light mustard pickles lettuce, fries & got no mustard, no fries, a tomato & one thin soggy lettuce

Even though we arrived just over an hour before closing, we still expected our food to be hot, or at least warm. The onion rings were cold, and when we asked for fresh ones, she brought us a plate of greasy cold ones again. The buger was Luke warm, so we just gave up. We also noted that management has failed to ensure proper cleaning of the basic tables. The condiment bottles were caked with Goop, as was the salt shaker. We should have taken our chances next door even though they were closing sooner. It appeared that a bunch of kids were running the place, so what else can consumers expect. Not much. The place has potential, but management needs to do better job of managing the staff.

Really?!?!??

No one here ,... just came for a beer and enjoy the pretty day. Every table outside was dirty and littered with crap- birds everywhere Do better this is disgusting!!!!

Twisted Root Burgers Today I tried TRB for the third time. I love the place, the vibe, and the music. The service is fast, and the personnel is always kind and smiling. The burgers could be better. I have tried the Vegabond, The Happy Pilgrim, and the Millionaire. The best you will get from these three is the name, which is very creative. That's it. The patty is dry and has no flavor. However, since I really like the vibe, I will give this place another chance to try its exotic meats.

A really cool and fun spot with very good burgers and good overall service. We were just passing through Abilene during a road trip, and wanted a quick (and hopefully yummy) dinner. Twisted Root Burger did not disappoint! The restaurant is clearly pretty new, spacious, bright, and fun. They have a variety of burgers and other sandwiches to choose from, along with some salads. The service was friendly and quick, although there was a bit of a wait for the food to be ready. That is understandable though, since they make everything to order and the place was a little busy. Still, we didn't mind waiting since the place was fun and they have a free pickle bar with a variety of flavors. They give you a buzzer so you know when your food is ready, and each features the name and photo of a celebrity. This makes for a bit of fun while you're waiting for your food, since the announcer has a little fun with some of the names, even getting patrons to "sing along" with some of them. I had the Big Tex burger, and it was very good with a nice blend of flavors and textures. The fries were pretty good too. My wife had a salad with chicken breast, which was also good. In addition to standard ketchup and mustard they have three "specialty" sauces at the table. The Root Beer BBQ Sauce tasted similar to A-1 Steak Sauce to me. The Ancho Chipotle Ketchup was as expected and good. The Horseradish Dijon Mustard tasted to me exactly like the spicy mustard common in Chinese restaurants. Overall we had a very good experience here. The food was good and the ambiance was fun. There is outside dining available, and a nice little pond area to wander around in back. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the mood for a good burger.

A large, illuminated sign with marquee-style light bulbs spells out "Twisted Root Burger Co." on a blue interior wall. The sign is mounted above a framed picture of a building and is part of the restaurant's decor. The lighting and design suggest a casual dining environment focused on burgers.

The burgers here are spectacular! We ended up trying so many and wish we could spend another two hours savoring more. Lots of great beer on tap too. Service and ambiance were superb Bon appétit!

Our first time at this Twisted Root but it was just as good as the DFW locations! Not cheap burgers considering they don't come with fries or a drink but they were decent size and perfectly cooked! 2 of us split the Lots-A-Shroom burger and I wasn't too hungry so I got a kids burger + lettuce and tomato (only a little smaller than the regular ones but cheaper and comes with fries)! We ate an the patio which is super nice (depending on the weather) and everyone was very nice and kept the place very clean! They have a great selection of soft drinks too and they actually give you an adult size cup and metal utensils (always appreciated)! I'm sure we'll be back in the future!

Do not pay extra for this sorry excuse for fries. - A black tray contains a serving of French fries that are partially eaten, with some fries showing signs of being fried and seasoned. There is a small amount of ketchup on the tray. The tray is placed on a wooden table, with drinks, a small bowl of pickles, and napkins visible in the background. The setting appears to be a casual dining environment.

What a sorry excuse for what used to be a great experience and a waste of money at Twisted Root Burger Co. in Abilene, Texas. First and foremost, it's unacceptable that the burger I was served tasted and looked like it had been sitting under the heat lamp for a week. This restaurant, that prides itself on its burgers should never serve a stale, unappetizing dish. Additionally, the fact that the fries were nothing more than bits and pieces shows a lack of attention t o detail in the kitchen. To make matters worse, it was ridiculous they were out of most beer options. It's understandable that a restaurant may run out of a particular beer from time to time, but to be out of most options simply shows a lack of attention to detail by the management. In addition, the lack of condiments on the table shows laziness by the staff. A restaurant should always have basic condiments readily available for their guests. This shows a lack of preparation and attention to detail on the part of the manager and staff. If that wasn't enough, the flavored pickles looked like they had been played in by children and at the very least, simply unappetizing. This restaurant, who used to take pride in the appearance of all of their dishes, including the garnishments, has taken a dive. Finally, the order attendant and bartender looked at me like I was a nuisance. It's the responsibility of the restaurant staff to make their guest feel welcome and valued. Overall, this Twisted Root Burger Co. was far from satisfactory. It's clear that the restaurant has a lot of work to do in order to improve the quality of their food and service. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone based on this experience. I should have turned around and went to Fuzzy's Tacos next door when what used to be a waiting in line experience, was fairly empty. Evidently, the word is out that this establishment is a waste of hard earned money. Skip this one folks.

Arrived here on a Saturday around 1:45 for lunch. It wasn't too crowded, lots of seating. It took the food over an hour to arrive.

They were very good on the burger. Each sliver of onion was battered and fried like an onion ring. Bacon was hanging out of the burger, which is just what I like to see. My Burger came with nasty sauce, which is apparently their famous house sauce. It's rather unique and good. When ordering the fries both my wife and I got a side of fries. I did not know that the fries were gonna be the size of a boat. One side of fries would've been good for both of us. My wife got the southern fried beauty, which is a fried chicken breast on a bun with bacon, cheese and sauce. The dining room was a little dark, I would have preferred to have more light, the vibe was mixed, an hip burger joint with intimate mood lighting???? Hey the burgers were great though. Put a candle on the table change the music from hard rock to classical violin, and voilà. Or keep it the same and put some lights in there. People working there are extremely helpful and very nice. Soda fountain to self serve, no Dr Pepper zero, but there are diet drinks. Restaurant nice and clean, bathrooms clean. Worth coming back.

I've seen more than a few places of this sort, most notably the Fuddrucker's chain in Houston. A predominantly burger menu with other options, sides, milkshakes, desserts, etc. where you order your meal at a counter, fill up your drink at a station, and sit at big wooden tables, and run your little buzzer back to pick up your food. They have a great vibe that really seems to fit the area, and it looked like there was a playground area where families could bring their kids for a good time. Prices are a bit higher than I'd like-- it cost me almost $18 for a burger, a side, and a drink-- but it was still worth a visit. The only reason that I didn't give them the full five stars is that the service was a bit slow. I was waiting surprisingly long for a burger considering how fast some other orders came out, and it took a while to track someone down to get a to go box for my leftover side.

I ordered the onion rings, the whole reason I came here, and they were made just like my favorite hotdog spot back home in NY. Our trays were picked up right away to give us more space, and someone was cleaning tables quickly after other guests finished their meals. Everything felt clean and well taken care of. I'm really glad I finally came here and I'll definitely be back.

Grumps Burgers - I ordered to-go and it was ready when I arrived. Also, I like the idea of keeping veggies to the side.
