I've had both their Shane pie and their Aussie pie (both at $8 a pop!). The pies have a puff pastry top, making it very crispy and flaky. The bottom is a simple butter crust. It works very well together. Their Shane pie was my favourite - beef short rib, veggies, red wine au-jus, mashed potatoes. Great flavour and very tender beef. The Aussie pie consists of beef chunks and gravy. The beef chunks reminded me of a dry beef shank. It was a little bit tough, but still not bad. The gravy was nice, but didn't really wow me.

* The Definition of Torpedo *…read more Urban Dictionary has multiple definitions or "Torpedo": - To betray, backstab, diss, or punk someone with the intent of causing harm to their reputation. - When objects or people look beautiful from far away, but dangerous or ugly up close. - A long turd. The menu sounded promising (although overpriced for a food truck) with some nice classic sandwiches on offer. I ordered the "mumia" ($12) - which I have to assume is a play on Mumia Abu-Jamal who is from Philadelphia, home of the cheesesteak? Anyhoo... The description was very cheesesteak like with sirloin beef, pepperjack cheese, sauteed onions and peppers. The addition of garlic aioli moved away from the classic as did the usage of pepperjack instead of provolone. When I unwrapped the sandwich, I was torpedoed with an excessive amount of a watery oily substance dripping all over the place. It got all over everything - not in a good way. Biting into the sandwich was the next torpedoing. The bread was stale. I don't mean day old. I mean stale. Next torpedo: the beef was chewy, gristly, and very oily. The peppers were the best part - but they too were overly oily. Basically each bite gave you a mouthful of stale bread, a piece of oily gristle flavoured by an oily pepper and a drippy oily substance (perhaps a broken aioli?). I couldn't eat the bread. Tried picking off the meat and veggies to eat, but gave up as they were too awful on their own. In other words, I feel torpedoed that this food truck is a torpedo that serves torpedos!

There was a small line when I approached the truck initially but their service was quick giving customers their sandwich within about 2-4 minutes of order, not entirely sure what the standard is for food trucks but for me that's good. The lady up front taking the orders was very friendly and was happy to help answer our questions. They only offered a few options but what I had to try was the jerk chicken sandwich as I had stopped a girl just minutes before and attempted to waft hers. Again service was fairly quick and I receive my sandwich within a few minutes. I don't think the picture I've posted will do it any justice but this baby was a beauty. The bun tasted quite fresh and almost melted in my mouth, the chicken and enough spice and flavour and the rest was just bomb. As far as I know they are only available at the farmers markets, and the lineups are usually quite long in the summer at Trout Lake but you can luck out at the winter market at Nat Bailey stadium (like I did today), and only a few people were in line ahead of us. Turns out Wakwak Burger serves up Japanese-style street burgers, and it was such a fun, affordable treat. The Food: I went with their popular Teriyaki Cheeseburger. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that it gets super sauce-heavy and a bit messy to eat on the go, but taste-wise, it was worth every napkin. So we decided to get takeout from their truck at the Broadway tech centre. I had their toasted sandwich combo. It comes with a sandwich made with homemade focaccia, croKets (potato croquettes), salad, and your choice of sauce for the croKets. We got the garlic sauce and the wasabi sauce. They were both creamy and very similar to a mayo, but vegan! I liked the garlic one more. The wasabi taste wasn't very present, so it just tasted like mayo. The croKets are SO GOOD. Honestly I would go back just to eat those. They're perfectly crisp with all the little edges. The sandwich combo was actually quite large. I couldn't finish everything and had to save some croKets for later. My brother said the cauli-burger was very BBQ sauce forward, but tasty. He enjoyed the vegan bacon as well. We also got the hazelnut chocolate mousse cake. Definitely reminded me of a ferrero rocher. I like the added texture with the nuts and it also isn't too sweet! Overall, the food is flavourful, filling, and reasonably priced. I would definitely get this again. Their menu is small, but they do it well.
