I have absolutely no sense of materials nor mechanical things. Every time I've been to the store in Arlington, I get the help I need to fix or install something, which I never thought possible, at least not with my own hands. Today I was nearly at my wit's end because I had sought help for a few months (!) to remove those awful window locks that protect landlords but suffocate tenants. For some reason, no one could find the right apparatus to remove the locks. I took photographs of the locks, the screws, the mounting -- no one I turned to for help had the right bit or wrench because removing the lock didn't require a standard bit or an IKEA-type wrench. I FINALLY found out, thanks to Ace's Vicente, that the screws I wanted to remove required a torx, several of which were included in a collection of drill bits I immediately purchased. Vicente explained carefully every step I needed to take to safely remove the screws from the lock and the lock from the window. I think I asked incredibly stupid questions, but he never let on and was really sympathetic about how awful these locks are (for childless, fresh-air-craving tenants). When one screw wouldn't come out, back I went to the store and bought Liquid Wrench, his go-to product for easing stuck screws out of their holes. It also worked. Now I have three fully open windows circulating air according to my needs. Not only that, I've increased my knowledge of things mechanical and am actually excited by the prospect of becoming less stupid about them! I've always appreciated the crew and the store owner for their attitude and customer service. They were especially outstanding during 2020. I called to see if they could copy my car's key that has the chip in it. They indicated they could, $40 and that they had 3 in stock. I told them I was 20 minutes away, and would be there shortly. When I arrived the key clerk looked up the key and then said she could make an appointment....What? Why? I asked to speak with the Manager (Marty) who said they didn't have the box to duplicate the key.... Well they could have saved me an hour and frustration if they would have told me that during the call when I told them I was headed there. I needed cash back. So I went into the store and asked if they offered cash back. The cashier said they did. So I bought two plant dishes to make two separate transactions. Naturally i go up to the register and hit DEBIT. The prompts never allowed a cash back option. The cashier kinda hissed at me like UGh you have to hit cash back. I said where? So then we try a second time and she looked at the screen prompts with me. She still did not see the cash back option. So finally we hit the DEBIT button and when it said would you like to use use it as a DEBIT then you hit NO. Then it had the cashback option. The other cashier said sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. Its clear that the two female cashiers didnt know how to offer cashback to the customers. Which is an incentive to purchase something from the store. The cashier hissed and was getting aggravated at me to the point where she said theres an ATM machine over there? Why would I pay $6-$8 in transaction atm feed when your cashiers should know how to get cash back? Not wasting my money. I bought the two expensive plant holders which were overpriced by the way but it was a negotiation of me going into the store. Train your cashiers! read more

This has become my go-to hardware store. I first went in because I was nearby and noticed the level of helpfulness and advice was way above the level you get at most other hardware store. Every time I've needed advice for a house DIY project, the staff at the Ace hardware store helped me out and gave me ideas on how to fix the problem. Everybody is very friendly, helpful, and attentive. If they're not sure how to solve a problem, they don't hesitate to say so or refer to another colleague. Since I moved back to Rosslyn this year I've bought all kinds of things here. Kitchen stuff, bathroom stuff, cleaning supplies, step stool, door mats, all kinds of light bulbs. What they don't have, they'll order upon request. Friendly and helpful staff/management. I'm frequently getting coupons in the mail. Recently I forgot to bring a coupon and went back the next day to se if they'd give me a credit. They did & cheerfully. I said up front it was my fault I didn't bring it, and I'd have understood if they said "must present at time of purchase". But they took care of me. I'd shop here anyway because of convenience; the pleasant and helpful staff are a nice plus. read more

Can't say enough good things about the stop in I just had at this Ace Hardware store. Walked in, super friendly staff greeted me, asked if I had something particular I needed/was looking for. They knew exactly what I described, led me to the exact aisle, grabbed both items and had me checked out and back out the door within a few minutes. This is a great store with friendly staff. I can always find what I need. I drive across Arlington to support a neighborhood store. And sometimes bike. However, something to reconsider is the parking validation for under $20 purchases. Having to spend $20 to park for free in order to visit your store is a show stopper for me now. I've been here a few times, and they've assembled one of the most genuinely nice, patient, and helpful staff in Arlington. As for the store itself: keep in mind that this is a neighborhood hardware store, geared more towards smaller dwellings (apartments/townhomes). Don't expect a mega Home Depot/Lowe's experience - this place isn't merchandised in such a manner; nor is it meant to be. For my personally, it's perfect for when I need the most random thing for my condo. Kudos to the management - they've clearly done something right. read more

Twins Ace and owner Jeff totally saved me when an unrelated store messed up a gift order -- I called them a few days before Christmas to not only order an assembled Big Green Egg but to hide this 200+ lb item at a neighbor's house...the next day, it was there all safe and sound and with a lovely red bow on it. Jeff went out of his way to help me and that is the kind of attention to detail and care that you do not get everywhere and which made me a big fan of this store. Great service! When I first walked in I was greeted immediately to see if I needed help. The staff was great. They were wonderful with their customer service and I felt like this hardware store had some pretty cool merchandise as well. Today was my first, and probably last, visit to this fine hardware store. I came to pick up a can of paint I had ordered online ($11.65) and also purchased a container of spackle ($4.23). I received a friendly greeting upon entering and was served promptly and efficiently. But when I asked the cashier about validating my parking ticket, I was told "sorry, we have a $20 minimum!" So I ended up paying $4 to park for 11 minutes. I wasn't trying to exploit their parking garage to dine at a restaurant or for other purposes. I was a CUSTOMER, but not treated as such. Unfortunately with their non-negotiable parking validation policy, this store has lost a future customer. Sad, but true. read more

I highly recommend this location based on its customer support. Shopping there was really easy. I had to do a repair on my bathroom. I walked in and was immediately greeted. The attendant pointed me to the aisle with the materials that I need and immediately sent someone with the specific technical expertise to assist me at the aisle. This location is incredibly convenient if you live in the area and don't want to deal with Home Depot. It surprisingly had everything I needed for helping setup an apartment. They were also able to size and cut a wooden dowel I purchased, saving me the hassle of figuring out how to do that within an apt with limited resources. Great addition to the area and saved me a few trips out to 7-corners. read more

Walked in just needing a couple screws to hang something in my apartment. Walked out about 4 minutes later with two perfect screws and about 20 cents less in my pocket. Super helpful and friendly gentleman helped me navigate the well-stocked fastener aisle to get something that would work for my project, and so far they've worked great. There is an older man who works here who was less than helpful. He was berating and demeaning toward me (probably because I am a woman) when I asked him a question, and does not know what he is talking about. He made assumptions that had me fuming by the time that I left and told me condescendingly that I need to 'do more research regarding the projects I was working on' when I asked him for a type of product. His assumptions had little, if anything to do with the question I raised. The only saving grace was that one of the other employees there was trying her best to help me with my inquiry. I am extremely disappointed in the establishment as it is very close to my office and I could have been a great return customer. You can bet that I will never shop at this location again. read more
