I used to come here alot because I was given gift cards to this place. But after sampling different drinks and FINALLY using up the gift cards, I most certainly will not be coming back. I hate wasting anything, so that's why i kept coming back to use up the gift cards. My friends don't like this place so they refused to take the gift cards from me. Thats how terrible this place is.
The "shakes," or what are suposed to be smoothies, are just as liquidy as their milk teas. I got the avocado shake, and it tasted completely artificial. Does this place even have any real fruits for their drinks? and im not talking abt the two or three options they point out at the bar. The drink was like water and lacked flavor. It was terrible and made me sick.
I gave the benefit of the doubt and assumed that their lemon green tea would be made with real lemons like other tapioca places, but just like the avocado, the drink was artificial. They use lemon flavored syrup to make this drink. The only real thing about the drink were the two slices of lemon they added in which did nothing to enhance the flavor of the drink. It was TOO sweet and not tart like a lemon drink should be. I had trouble trying to finish this drink because I was pretty much drinking sugar syrup.
On to the jasmine milk tea... I get that its a popular item, so I understand why it would be premade, but why can this place not "fix" a drink?! The jasmine milk tea was a little sweet the first time I got it, so the second time, I asked if they could make it less sweet. They said it was not possible because it was premade. I asked them to add more tea into it to water it down, and the cashier said it was not possible. TWINKLE, HALF THE MENU IS PRACTICALLY TEAS SO WHY WOULD THERE NOT BE ANY EXTRA TEA TO ADD INTO A DRINK?! The best the cashier could do was "add more milk." Is it even real milk that is used?! (not that I could confirm, because the cashier never added the extra milk like she said she would). Also, my stomach hurt after drinking the jasmine milk tea the first time, but I thought it couldve been something I ate and let it go. But my stomach hurt again after the second time, so now Im questioning if its the drink.
The peach green tea and the mango green tea were sub-par. Just like the other drinks, they were too sweet and not worth getting a second time.
For the toppings, it is true that they ALWAYS run out of tapioca. How can a tapioca place run out of tapioca and not make more even though its not even close to closing time?? Thats absurd! There was one night where I was able to catch them right before closing, however, and the cashier was cleaning up. I noticed that this place does not throw away leftover tapioca like other places do. Normally, what happens is that tapioca can only be left out to be used for so many hours. After that, the tapioca hardens and does not taste good anymore. I saw her saran-wrapping up the leftover tapioca and putting it away. I suggest not going to this place when they open because you could be getting old tapioca.
I tried the grass jelly another time, and it was not a good decision. Some chunks of the grass jelly was hard, like it had been left out for a long period of time, and it was completely and terribly bitter! Avoid the grass jelly.
For the egg pudding, its not any better. The egg pudding lacked flavor, and they werent scoopable chunks. It liked like someone was bored and decided to just smash the pudding into a million tiny pieces.
The chicken nuggets were soggy and lacked flavor. It looked like they were frozen and microwaved. They were good-sized nuggets but why would that matter when you can barely eat it.
The takoyaki was bleh. I would not get it again either.
OH, because I went there so many times to use up all my gift cards, I was able to accumulate enough stamps to get a free drink. There's a $3 limit for your free drink. My drink was $2.79, so I thought I was good to go. I was wrong. The cashier told me I had to pay taxes for my FREE drink, because that makes alot of sense. If you want me to pay those cents to cover the cost of your cups, then say so. But charging tax on a FREE drink, that's stupid. I didn't go over the $3 limit, and whatever was leftover after my drink purchase could've covered that tax charge.
I am glad that I have finally used up all my gift cards, so I will never have to return to this place. Overall, the drinks are too sweet and taste completely artificial. The service is terrible, since they cannot even do a simple fix to a simple drink or fulfill a request that they suggested (such as adding milk to make the drink less sweet). The toppings are not delicious, and neither are the snacks. No wonder this place is so cheap, because they don't use quality ingredients. I am so glad that I do not spend my own money here. I suggest you take that extra minute to walk across the parking lot and enjoy REAL food and DELICIOUS drinks at Tap House. Don't bother trying this place. read more
