La Fiesta is known for its signature cabbage salad served with chips and salsa. It's a unique item and worth trying. The bar area has a large TV for sports fans. There is a sunken pit next to the fireplace. Looks cozy on a cold winter night. Big menu, all the usual Mexican suspects are available and many dishes with Octopus. We had margaritas and the Mexican pizza sans the ground beef. It was a nice treat and thoroughly enjoyed snacking on it while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. Wanting something light I ordered the avocado salad, it's under the tostada menu so I thought it would be on a tostada. Not so! But I crinkled some chips on it and splashed it with salsa. That made the salad pop with flavor. We also had three different burritos and all were tasty according to each of our party. Left the plates clean! Afterwards we enjoyed the Spanish coffee and it was a sweet ending.

The scalloped potatoes are also excellent. I only received 6 asparagus with my meal though, which was a bit disappointing. Service can also be very slow (almost 2.5 hours from start to end for a meal for 3). But, the food is excellent so I really wasn't that upset about it. I have eaten both in the downstairs bar area and in the actual restaurant upstairs. Both were fine; the ceiling is open on the top floor to the rest of the casino which is a bit odd because the pool is right out there, but it's rural Nevada so I think it more so just adds to the charm.

We dined at the Ely's old jailhouse, today affectionately known as, 'Hector's Cellblock Steakhouse'. I don't know if they offer the scallops on the menu today, but I can tell you that, that day, they were absolutely the freshest I'd ever enjoyed and cooked to perfection. I think they'd have received a Michelin Star that day. I highly recommend them if still available. Wish I had a photo to share.

But, I'm not writing a review of a DMV, I'm writing a review of my lunch at Smash. Those DMV ladies wanted to know where we ate and they agreed, these are the best burgers for a 1000 miles around. I had the mushroom swiss, my son had the regular smash. Deceptively HUGE sandwiches on buttered buns, cooked just right, and seasoned! Fries were tasty. We got there a bit earlier than lunch and didn't question it being empty on a Wednesday, but then we watched the place fill up. People were talking until food arrived and then it was just quiet. That tells you a lot. Can't talk while you're eating. Then I had them pack up all three dessert choices in the display because we could not decide. Chocolate cake, Nutella cheesecake and lemon cheesecake. We drove the two hours home and then sampled...I got one bite of the Nutella and then my son stole it! While dining with my family, another…read morecustomer became verbally aggressive toward me and my husband because my young children, both 2 year olds, were crying and because we were speaking Spanish, IN A MEXICAN RESTAURANT. Mind you, we are all natural born American citizens who speak two languages. I understand that children can be loud at times, but no one deserves to be spoken to disrespectfully while simply trying to enjoy a meal. Therefore I was disrespectful back, and while I understand two wrongs don't make a right, the restaurant acknowledged the situation but did not do anything about it. What was most disappointing was not the behavior of the other patron, it was the restaurant's response. The staff apologized, but no one stepped in to de-escalate the situation or address the customer's behavior. Instead, I felt like the only option was to leave after addressing the patron myself. I wasn't expecting anyone to take sides, but I did expect management to ensure that all guests could dine without being harassed. A simple intervention or request for the other customer to stop would have gone a long way. I hope the restaurant reviews how situations like this are handled in the future so that families and other guests feel supported and safe. This happened on 08.04 at about 6:30 pm.
