A thousand happy faces greet you as you walk in the door. Customers celebrating their birthday can have their picture taken and posted on the wall, beams or pillars throughout the restaurant. La Fiesta is known for its signature cabbage salad served with chips and salsa. It's a unique item and worth trying. The bar area has a large TV for sports fans. There is a sunken pit next to the fireplace. Looks cozy on a cold winter night. Big menu, all the usual Mexican suspects are available and many dishes with Octopus. We had margaritas and the Mexican pizza sans the ground beef. It was a nice treat and thoroughly enjoyed snacking on it while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. Wanting something light I ordered the avocado salad, it's under the tostada menu so I thought it would be on a tostada. Not so! But I crinkled some chips on it and splashed it with salsa. That made the salad pop with flavor. We also had three different burritos and all were tasty according to each of our party. Left the plates clean! Best stop we made on our roadtrip!! From the outside you would never know how absolutely delicious your meal is going to be. The free chips and spicy salad were so good, and came with a cabbage salsa also. Everybody's plates felt MASSIVE we all had leftovers. Ely is growing. Seems like there's something new every time I roll through. There's no chance that it'll be another LA, LA land,... but on second thought it just may. It sure enough was for me, because I stayed at LA Quinta hotel, and ate at LA Fiesta restaurant. In my opinion, the name of the restaurant should be Blah Fiesta. Everything on the plate was ehh. I mean it was there alright. But as far as taste goes, well let's put it this way, have you ever been spraying yourself with bug spray and accidentally gotten some of it in your mouth? Yep. It's like that. The beans and rice were atrocious, and the Chile Rellenos weren't far behind. Not far behind at all. The plate was full, but half of it bit the dust. I couldn't go any further. Sorry mom, I didn't clean my plate. I should have realized that it was no good when I didn't see any Hispanic servers, or for that matter, no Hispanic customers! Quick Tip: The walls are plastered with faces celebrating their birthdays. They're all wearing the celebratory Sombrero. Hmmm, I wonder how many times the inside of that hat has been washed. When asked, "how was your meal?" I responded, "I wish we had come here last night instead of JT's Steakhouse." La Fiesta was far and wide a much better meal than the steakhouse across the street and half the price. This restaurant is quite large with lots of seating and even more pictures of past patrons wearing the restaurant's signature sombrero. I wished it had been my birthday so my picture could have been taken! After sitting down we were promptly given chips and salsa (the salsa was a bit too spicy for my wife - but I love heat) and two glasses of water. I ordered the Super Burrito and my wife ordered the sizzling fajitas, both dishes included rice and beans. While we waited for our order I took a couple gulps of my water and then suddenly heard, "excuse me, may I please fill up your water?" Yes, thank you. As my wife and I discussed our travels and I drank more water, the young gentleman kept coming over and each time asked "excuse me, may I please fill up your water?" Unlike the steakhouse we had ate at the night before that never filled up my water glass the attention to service was very appreciated. Once the food came out - well, the portions are huge! I was only able to finish half of my burrito saving the other half for breakfast the next day. My wife also equally enjoyed the fajitas. The rice was a little crunchy so if there was one negative, the rice would be it. Overall, the food was tasty, the service was attentive, and for a little over $60.00 + tip the dinner was a lot better than our experience the night before at JT's Steakhouse. My only regret is that we didn't visit La Fiesta for both of our nights in Ely, Nevada. read more

3.5 * Mexican restaurant in the small town of Ely Nevada....restaurant is on the larger side and there was a nice crowd inside on a Friday night...seated pretty quickly and the busser brought us some chips/ salsa and waters...the waiter took FOREVER to come and take our orders but this is Ely, not Vegas so we were patient...the margaritas were large, just wish they were made better, subpar...the chicken enchiladas were good, the rice was as well but I wasn't crazy about the refried beans, very bland and only took a few bites of them...the carne asada burrito Was very good, the meat was cooked well and it was tasty...I'm going to RECOMMEND this place based on the limited options in Ely, it's okay Mexican food but I've certainly had much better in the past, for the locale it is worth trying... read more

Stopped for the night in Ely, Nevada, and left to wonder where to go for dinner with my Mom. We had been in the car all day as were looking for something walking distance from the motel. La Fiesta was an easy 290 foot walk away according to Google, that was perfect. The reviews were all over the place, so I was not sure what to expect when I walked in the door. John D described this place as the "whitest Mexican restaurant you will ever set foot in". He was not too far from wrong. Young surfer dude was working the register and seating people. Our waitress, who was amazing, looked like she would be more at home in a diner than a Mexican place. But it was crowded, looked like locals mostly, and the food on the tables looked good. The menu was thorough with all the classics, our awesome waitress helped find something my mom could handle spice level wise. She ordered a small chicken nacho and a margarita. I ordered the Burrito Colorado because for me a good Chili Colorado means the place knows what they are doing. Was not but a few minutes later when the food arrived. Super-hot plates! That is a good thing. The chili Colorado passed muster and I was happy. One word of caution though, the refried beans were *loaded* with cayenne pepper. They had a healthy amount of kick and it was all front heat. So beware the beans! Overall, I liked the place and the staff, and I would come back here again. Not sure when life will take me back to Ely, but if it does I know where to go. read more

One Star -- We Won't Be Back We visited La Fiesta in Ely, NV around 5:30 PM and were promptly seated -- only three other tables were sat when we arrived, so it wasn't busy. Our water glasses were filled and chips brought by the bus boy, and although it took a little while for our server to take our drink and food order, we didn't mind as we were munching on chips. I ordered the #3 large combination (taco, enchilada, and tamale). My husband had a tostada with a flour tortilla and enchiladas rancheros. Our 10-year-old son ordered the #18 (three flautas large combo), and our teenager chose the seafood chimichanga. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, but everything was just mediocre. Not bad, not great. The rice and beans in particular were overly spiced -- something like chili or cayenne -- to the point where I found them unpleasant and my 10-year-old wouldn't touch them. My husband didn't mind them, but overall the food was forgettable. Except for one major issue. When my teenager cut into his seafood chimichanga, we were immediately hit with an overwhelming fishy odor -- strong and off-putting. We were hesitant, but he gave it a try. About five or six bites in, he started feeling ill. Within minutes he rushed to the bathroom, where he got sick -- twice -- in a span of ten minutes. When our server finally came back around, we told him what happened. His only response? "That's weird," and then he walked away. No apology, no offer to comp the item or check on our son. We didn't see him again for another 20 minutes, and had to wait at least 30 minutes total after finishing our meals just to get the check. We paid -- more than the food was worth -- and left, deeply disappointed. Bottom line: Do not eat here. The service was indifferent at best, the food was just okay, and the seafood was clearly spoiled. There's a taco shop up the road that's absolutely worth your time and money instead. read more

Wow! I can't believe there are bad reviews on Yelp for La Fiesta. Must be the worst kind of people. La Fiesta was amazing. The reviews made me skeptical but I am so happy I went. The deluxe Nachos - shredded beef & combo fajitas were S-Tier (aka the Best ever). I'm serious. Nachos were $11 for a massive portion. Fajitas $19 for a massive portion. After devouring everything I could barely walk to my car. Would highly recommend these dishes for anyone skeptical. Also I'm a big salsa guy and their salsa was very good. I had 4 servings. Service was top tier. They had two bussers who constantly brought over more salsa and drinks and were very polite. Service was quick. If you're ever in the Ely area this place is a Must Go. Ignore any one star review. I rarely give 100% tips but this restaurant earned one tonight. Well done. read more

We stopped at this restaurant as it was close to our hotel and we generally like Mexican food. We were brought chips, salsa and what looked like cabbage, it was not Pico. Anyhow, the "cabbage" was pink around the edges, so we passed on even trying it. The chips were stale, but salsa tasted good. My husband ordered two enchilada combo and I ordered the Chimichanga. The meals looked good, but neither of us was happy with the taste of our meal. I ate less than half of mine, and my husband left quite a bit of food also. I felt like I was going to have a bad night if I ate even one more bite. The water tasted terrible too On a good note, the servers were very nice and I liked a lot of the art in the restaurant. After another long day of driving, exploring, and hiking I stopped at La Fiesta for dinner before going back to the hotel. Looking over the menu, I saw many familiar things but in a section called Sabores Mexicanos (flavors of Mexico), I found something that was entirely different from anything I've had before in a Mexican restaurant. First, I was brought my iced tea in which I had desperate need. The server also brought me chips and salsa and also a dish that I hadn't seen before. When I asked her what it was, she said it was a cabbage slaw, a traditional Nevada dish. It consists of cabbage, onions, lime, garlic (lots of garlic), cilantro, and other items I can't remember. It had a spicy tang to it from the large amount of garlic. It was quite good. The chips were standard but the salsa seemed more house made and also had a tang. Back to the main course, I ordered the Pulpo ala Diabla--Octopus and mushrooms sauteed in a red spicy sauce. This turned out to be a great choice!! I like it when a menu says spicy sauce and it IS spicy! There was a good number of octopus pieces along with mushrooms. It was hearty, made my nose run a bit, and it was such a large dish that I finished the octopus but not the rice nor refried beans. I was full at that point and passed on getting anything for dessert. I think that's a first for me. If not, it was the second time I didn't get dessert after a meal. Service was very good with a friendly server who refilled my iced tea two times. If in Ely again, this would definitely be on my list to go to again. read more

The only downside was the wait times for everything and anything. It appears they may have been short staffed, but it does suck to wait 30 minutes to get drinks and such. The "zuisa" enchilada had dry and unseasoned chicken with a major lack of green sauce. The pork verde burrito was slightly better because the light green tomatillo sauce had a greater presence and the pork had flavor unlike the chicken but still a mostly lifeless dish. The side of rice was dry and the beans were the runniest I've had. Perhaps that's why the rice was so dry - they are little sponges to soak up the soupy beans. Both the rice and beans had minimal flavor. But as bad as what I've already described sounds, the food was at least edible unlike the tortilla chips. Completely lacking crunch, the chips fell flaccid on the tongue much like a communion wafer. At least the margaritas were good and big. read more

If you head out to Ely and your looking for Mexican food this place has you covered. The cabbage salsa is to die for. The restaurant is a decent size which includes a bar in the back. It's never to busy so wait time to be seated or to get your food is never very long. I didn't catch our bartenders name but she was awesome!
