We recently traveled to Bluff, UT and had breakfast at Twin Rocks Cafe. First, the setting is incredible!! The food, was great!! I ate four pieces of bacon, for the first time in my life!!! It was the best bacon I every ate, and I am in my 7th decade! Additionally, we had blue corn pancakes, they were excellent! The servicers were very pleasant and the café was very clean. We were only in the area for a couple of days, but returned each morning for a great breakfast. We live in New York State, yet we already discussed that we might plan a return trip, to this area. While most will not think of Bluff, Utah as a 'destination,' we certainly do! Bluff is a wonderful place to serve as 'home base' for hiking in the surrounding Cedar Mesa BLM land. The canyons of this area hold the secrets of countless Anasazi ruins, accessible - although not usually easily - to those with the energy and determination to visit these wondrous sites. The canyons, in and of themselves, offer the beauty of red rock country and the intoxicating fragrance of the high desert: sage, Russian Olive, Eucalyptus. And, it is Navajo Country. No one should mistake Twin Rocks Trading Post with the usual trinket-laden shops that try to pass themselves off as trading posts. No, Twin Rocks is the real thing, well stocked with true art created by local artists, many of whom are widely recognized as among the best in their fields. The owners of Twin Rocks, the Simpsons, have long been supporters of their artists, with long-standing, and mutually-respectful, relationships. The Simpsons' clearly treasure the art and the artists, and their knowledge of and enthusiasm for Native American art - both old and new - is freely shared with those who enter their shop. Over the years, we have made many purchases at Twin Rocks Trading Post, and with each one, we knew that it is authentic, it is of the highest quality, and that the artist who created it was paid a fair - and most likely generous - price. Our many trips to Bluff have resulted in a friendly acquaintance with Barry, Steve, Priscilla, and the other delightful people at Twin Rocks... we can't wait until our next trip! read more

They are "technically " open but it is a joke with what they offer. The clue is the lack of ANY cars stopped there.

After a full day of sightseeing we checked into our hotel absolutely starving. The lady working the front desk told us we had to come to the Twin Rocks Cafe and try the Navajo taco. We hurried down to twin rocks because like most things in Southern Utah - they close at 9pm. We took the servers advice and decided to split the Navajo taco. It was the size of a medium pizza when it came out! It had a fantastic homemade chili on top of the homemade fry bread stacked with lettuce, black olives, onion, lettuce, tomato, and shredded cheddar cheese. Our waitress knew were were splitting it and without asking split it up on 2 plates for us and gave us each a side of sour cream and salsa. They also serve bottled beer here - the Utah craft bottles were $4 each. Even though they closed at 9pm and we finished up eating around 9:15pm, our server offered us each an extra beer and didn't rush us out. This seems to be "the" place in Bluff and for good reason. Nestled beneath spectacular cliffs, this place serves delicious sturdy diner food with a decidedly Southwestern tang. stews and burgers, most of which can be pimped up with that ubiquitous delectable green or red chili. Twin Rocks Cafe is a convenient, fairly reliable restaurant in the sleepy town of Bluff. Breakfast is definitely their best meal. Very good eggs, bacon, hash browns, and pancakes. The other food, I have to say, is consistently average at best. I can eat it, but I'm not crazy about it. The best thing they have I think are the beer battered fries. They're very greasy, so maybe not for everyone, but they are tasty. The chicken quesadilla is pretty good, but the burgers are always way too well done. I remember the chicken wings, pulled pork sandwich, and burrito are all pretty decent. Utah microbrews are available for about $4. After a long day of hiking though the food will taste great and you'll be thankful Twin Rocks Cafe exists. Just like the other places in town, I wish they'd stay open at least an hour later. I often enjoy browsing the gift shop after my meal. The owner, Craig, is a very nice man who is always willing to offer helpful suggestions on nearby hikes. When in Bluff, you'll find me at Twin Rocks at some point. read more

They're the only game in town. They get a solid four stars for simply existing, having free wi-fi and providing edible food for travelers through the inhospitable Four Corners region of Utah. This place is not a destination, but it is a welcome stopping point where you can eat, hydrate and pick up some handmade crafts of seemingly good quality. If you're driving through, you really ought to stop here. There's no telling how long or hot the road in front of you is going to be. read more

Sheepherder's Breakfast Sandwich the breakfast item with Frybread plus 2 scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, and choice of typical trinity breakfast meats- I went with bacon. I also ordered a biscuit because I'm a sucker for a real biscuit but that was real bad-it was dry like sawdust microwave soft and yellowish like they make it with egg which any self respecting southerner will tell you is a no no. The coffee was on the weak side too. It's a nice cafe with properly spaced booth/table ratio so I can fit in and not feel like a packed sardine. Service is friendly and there's a nice gift shop attached to the restaurant and a separate trading post next door. Nice bathroom too. It's a decent place in a big city but great considering you're off the beaten path. I stop by and get the Sheepherders if your there for breakfast. I don't know about lunch or dinner. Ehhhh I'll eat most anything. The food was ok. The fry bread isn't traditional style. I'm Navajo, so just saying. It reminded me of Bisquick. This is pretty much the only restaurant in town, so choose wisely. I came here for breakfast. I specifically asked if the sausage was that grey rubbery pre frozen patty like McDonalds uses. The server assured me it was not, and that it was good. I ordered a dish with sausage. Sure enough, the sausage patties were that questionable super salty rubbery gray thin pre frozen patties like at McDonalds. Like, seriously, WTF? Also, $6 for a side of thinly sliced bacon. They also claimed the gravy was homemade and not from a bag...Now, I grew up in southern Missouri, where we make milk gravy from scratch, so I learned at an early age what real homemade gravy tastes like. Just because you open the bag or box of gravy mix and add liquid, does not make it homemade. My auntie would slap the shit right out of you, if you served her this pre-made crap. Again, just saying. I spent 16 years in a military combat unit. I've eaten MRE's, and a lot of other questionable things in survival situations. I am not a picky eater, but here I basically only ate the eggs, which are hard to screw up. This food was not good. Since it's the only spot in town, I suggest ordering things they can't really get in frozen or pre-made form, like, eggs, beans, and non processed meats. During a recent visit to Bluff we learned that Twin Rocks was one of the few places open in February. We were in the middle of doing the Whole 30, and had some trepidation that we'd be able to eat here. Our server was awesome and helped us figure out a dinner that was Whole 30 compliant as well as delicious. Our steaks were delicious and the salad was perfect. Down in Bluff, one of the most popular places for any visitor to stop in at is the Twin Rocks Café and Gift Shop. The lure of the Navajo Twins in the background, and the Sunbonnet taking up residence on the front porch, is difficult to resist. More difficult to resist is the scent wafting out of the kitchen, and the sound of laughter from happy diners. Residents of San Juan County, however, already know this is the place to get a delicious, home cooked meal, and local favorites such as Navajo Taco, Navajo Pizza, Beef Stew, Sheepherder Sandwiches, Fry Bread and Ash Bread. So, after doing some hoodoo hunting, it was no wonder we ended up at the Café for a much deserved lunch, and a friend joined us. The menu is still not huge, but the variety listed has something pleasing for any palette. Absolutely begin with the Buffalo Chicken Wings appetizer; baked, then deep fried to keep the chicken tender, but give that crispy coating that's craved. The wings don't sit in a puddle of sauce, but are perfectly coated (medium heat), served with celery and carrot sticks plus ranch dressing for dipping. These Buffalo Wings were so good, we got another order to munch on later. The main entrees chosen were the BLT, Navajo Taco, and the special of the day, Prime Rib Sandwich. The BLT was packed with veggies, plus slices of thick cut bacon; no mayonnaise though, so make sure to order some if you want it. A side of fries is a must, as the ones at Twin Rocks are so good, you almost forget to eat your sandwich; of course they come with that Utah condiment, fry sauce. How about a puffy round of fry bread topped with homemade chili, tomatoes, lettuce, olives, onions and shredded cheese...oh yes, it's a Navajo Taco. The fry bread is house made, and you cannot truly have a Southwestern experience without trying it; plain, as a taco, or even a pizza.The special the day we were there was the Prime Rib Sandwich; meat so tender it melts in the mouth with sautéed onions and mushrooms. Dessert was a three way split for us, Peaches de Chelly, a special treat of spiced peaches atop Fry Bread with ice cream, whipped cream and caramel sauce. Afterwards it was a consensus, "Stick a fork in me, I'm done!!!" A leisurely walk through the Gift Shop which offers up clothing (hats, t-shirts), books (cooking, local history, natural wonders), local foods (beans, sauces, Real Salt products), and all manner of souvenirs is a shopper's delight. The Trading Post next door features paintings, sculptures and more crafts from local artisans. Twin Rocks Café and Gift shop is not just a place to eat and run, but an experience in itself. Not many choices in Bluff for dinner so we selected Twin Rocks Cafe, and I'm glad we did. We had the Navajo Taco which was fantastic, and a house salad. This place is awesome and if you are anywhere in the vicinity - within a 30 mile drive because the scenery is beautiful - I highly recommend stopping here. Stopped in on a Monday night The menu has been changed a bit and some prices are higher, some selections no longer such as tilapia The pizza's are $20 and up now. Wife had southwest chicken sandwich. Looked nice but chicken was a bit dry. Fries were good I had sheepherder sandwich on ash bread. Roast beef inside was also dry, otherwise a decent concoction. Would have been better if beef was dipped in jus first or had some for dipping. Friendly service, out of half the beers on the menu. Food is a bit slow to come out. Great views. We tried two of the local (Utah) microbrews from Wasatch Brewery- Evolution Amber Ale and Polygamy Porter. Both beers were very good. We shared the three cheese Navajo Pizza with fried bread crust. The pizza was very good. Don't think traditional pizza when ordering this because it's sort of fluffy and slightly sweet- but very good. I would certainly come back! We had the breakfast of the hollandaise sauce with eggs, fry bread, and pork carnitas. There were two pieces of fry bread, two eggs, and the pork. My husband and I shared with an order of blue cornmeal pancakes, and it was a perfect portion. The hollandaise dish was unique and tasty. Next time I would order it without the pork. The blue cornmeal pancakes were the stars. The cornmeal provided a nice texture and prevented any "mushyness." I could have eaten more without any syrup. Overall a very lovely breakfast. read more

My family was moving across country from Virginia to California and my sister looked up places along the way for us. There was a longer wait for our food which was weird because they weren't busy at all but it was worth it. This was the best! My fiancé and I shared a Navajo Taco and a Navajo Supreme Pizza in the car (we had a dog and a son under two with us). Amazing!! And although the weather wasn't as glorious, the scenery was beautiful! This was a nice little cafe. It's the only place open in Bluff during certain times of the year and on Sundays. I would give it 4 stars if they had more gluten free options. It's very hard for those of us with a restrictive diet to travel and it would be nice to see more restaurants accommodate. There are many Celiacs out there. My aunt enjoyed her meal. The frybread with carnitas at Twin Rocks is hands down the best frybread I've ever had!! And the most flavorful carnitas I've ever had. I am not a breakfast fan and I loved every bite of the breakfasts we had here. My daughter and I split the twin rocks breakfast and fought over bites of the sweet peppered bacon. The fry bread was delicious and perfectly fried. The hash browns were both soft and crispy and not too salty. I would like to say something about the eggs, but I didn't get any because the kid ate them both. My husband had the eggs on fry bread with beans, pork, and hollandaise and it was AMAZING. I almost cleaned all the sauce off his plate -- and I am not a hollandaise fan. This dish was such a perfect mix of sweet, salty, fatty, and crispy. Yum. On another note, this was the best iced tea I have ever had in a restaurant. My husband liked the coffee so much he got a cup to go. This was the only restaurant open when we stayed here one night. We ate dinner and then breakfast the following morning here. The food is quite good and the restaurant is quaint and clean. I left Wednesday morning feeling quite bad for the girls working here. They're all SO nice, but were being yelled at and berated by their manager the entire time we were there. As a general manager myself I would NEVER scream at and yell at my employees, not to mention even coach them in front of customers. We could hear her yelling "GET YOUR FOOD OUT NOW!" And she yelled at the poor girl from her office to not wrap silverware at the register. Like, seriously who cares?? I was honestly so shocked I stared at her in disbelief.
