The bar is owned and locally operated by Ron Hopwood. Ron makes and bottles his own wines and bourbons. Most of the grapes are locally grown. I have passed by his bar for years because I was skeptical of Midwest wines until I had a bottle of his chardonnay at the local pizzeria. The chardonnay was so smooth and delicious, that I walked down the street to his tasting room. The cozy upscale bar is FILLED with Hopwood wines and bourbons. He offers tastings or you can buy a bottle or glass. and sit at one of his lovely tables and sip. He even sells charcuterie boards and dipping breads to pair with your wine. Awards for the wines cover a wall. Ron is most proud of winning the 2019 American Wine Societies award for best cabernet sauvignon. The wines are inexpensive and they offer special pricing to Club members. To be a member, one needs to commit to buying 2 bottles/month or 2 cases/year. It's such a great deal that I am going back over this week to join. Ron has special events for Club members! Hopwood is a great place to sneak away on a date or with your bff. It is cozy and delicious.

Unfortunately, I did learn that Hopwood Cellars is closing its doors for good in June, so it was a good thing I came back to visit. Hopwood Cellars is one of the best wineries in Indiana that I have been to since living in Indianapolis. The owner is a great guy and very friendly and helpful to the customers. His staff is very knowledgeable on the wines, and the ambiance is beautiful. The Cabernet Sauvignon is my personal favorite wine. They also have a great Chardonnay as well. The winery does sell flights of wine so you can sample a few wines. The wine milkshakes are supposedly out of this world, so I would stop by before the end of June 2025 to try one, or else you will miss out on the opportunity. The bar area goes around the facility and is very nice. They have a wine sample card you can purchase to try a bunch of wines as well. The staff definitely knows what they are doing, and they are very professional on presenting the wines. I'm sad that Hopwood Cellars is closing this year because it was a good winery and one of my favorites in Indiana. I wish the owner nothing but the best, but I know he will succeed in whatever business he decides to do next. Farewell to Hopwood Cellars Winery! We will miss you!

Patrons were a variety of clientele, defintely no children. We had indicated on the open table reservation that we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. I had done some research for local fine dining and was excited to try Freeland's. (Coincidentally, we went to Tinker Street - a sister company -- for our anniversary last year, and had an absolutely wonderful experience!) We were seated right away. I will admit that I was a little disappointed there was nothing on the table that looked celebratory, and that seemed like a miss, as we have experienced this from other restaurants. Freeland's just opened in Feb 2025, and is in a renovated old (1840s) house, with a lovely bar area set against William Morris wallpaper, table seating for about 50 total, and a view of the kitchen. Although it's neat to see the counter part of the kitchen, my seat was situated where I could see the side shelves of supplies and one work table, and honestly that did take away from the ambiance of everything else. I really think some sort of partition there would be better. The sommelier came quickly and offered us each a small amuse-bouche of champagne and explained that all quests are welcomed this way; it was a nice touch. Our server also came quickly, asked us if we were celebrating anything especial (yes, our 20th), and reviewed some of the evening specials. Hubs had an Old Fashioned ($19) and I had a glass of chardonnay ($12 - that was actually still on a happy hour special). I completely forgot about the sommelier in that moment, because normally I would just have them pair me a glass for the meal, but this was good, too. We got the scallops appetizer ($36) and the beets salad ($17). The three scallops, served in shells, were delicious, as was the beets salad - red and golden beets served over a rainbow of naturally (food) colored sauces. I was also envious watching oysters to other tables - hubs is not a fan and I figured we were getting plenty of food, I'll get some next time. Entrees were the NY strip loin for him ($50) with carrots and fingerling potatoes, and the butternut risotto ($32) for me. Both were beautiful and delicious. For dessert, we each ordered a coffee. Chocolate ice cream was on the house for our anniversary. We also ordered a peanut butter chocolate parfait ($17). Coffee came out first and we were almost done by the time the ice cream came out. It was nothing special compared to the rest of the food - plain store bought chocolate. A little while after, our server informed us the parfait didn't set up, and they were remaking it if we wanted to wait (yes, please). About 15 minutes later, he came out and apologized that the chef said it just wasn't setting up. The packed us up a complimentary piece of their honey cake to go instead. This was a nice little about 7 (more?) layer dessert with honey, lavender, nice fresh flavors. Overall, our dinner for two came to $210 before gratuity. Overall, I know this "should" be a 5-star rating - which I think for a "regular dinner" it certainly would be. Again, everything was beautiful and delicious. But for a celebratory milestone, the work kitchen shelf view, noise level, and the dessert snafu, today was still a solid 4. The Burgers are fairly good. If i was judging the food quality alone, it'd be like 3 stars. They have a great cocktail list and of course an extensive wine list which is set up in unique categories and fun to read. My husband was happy with his wine. They also have port! Four kinds! Melissa kindly gave me a taste of one and I am SO coming back for a port flight. A word on accessibility- the main entrance has two steps up and there are sturdy grab bars on both sides but you do need to be a bit cautious at the bottom. I was told there is a rear or side entry that is wheelchair accessible. It was way too cold to explore but I'll check it out on our next visit in the very near future. If you're thinking of giving the Cork a try, don't hesitate. It's fabulous. **Yelp advises they are removing Tips (boo) so I'll note again here that apps are half price all night on Thursdays.
