With a NY Strip steak, you expect some connective tissue, but not this much. It was hidden also in the muscle of the steak. I had trouble hiding all the half chewed offal on my plate. Neither did it have a great beef flavor. This summary from the internet agrees with my idea of rice pilaf, "Pilaf is a rice dish where grains are toasted in oil or butter with aromatics like onion and garlic before being simmered in seasoned broth, resulting in fluffy, separate grains." What I was served was nothing like this as I got buttered rice that clumped together. No effort was employed in plating for appearance.
