This is my second time working with Nelson, and also the second time that I would be remiss to not submit a glowing review. Nelson is the consummate professional, seems to know his craft better than anyone else, and is in general just a really great guy. This time around, Nelson ran wiring for my new hot tub, and as usual, thought of everything. In addition to running underground conduit for the hot tub electricity, Nelson also ran a second conduit line thinking that at some point, I may want lighting or something else electrical near the hot tub. In addition, he left me with extra amperage in the outside box (which he also installed), so that when I do eventually use that second conduit, I will have sufficient electricity to power whatever I'd like. The job itself was done very cleanly, and at a reasonable price. I am grateful to have found Nelson, and would never consider using anyone else for my electrical service needs. Nelson first did work for us in a rental house in Arlington almost 5 years ago. He just happened to be the electrician dispatched for our job while working for a large company around here you've probably heard of. Nelson worked about 10 hours straight for a terrible power issue we were having - in the middle of a hot sunny August day - spending a lot of time in our attic which must have been 150 degrees at least (!!!) This was a fixed price job but he barely took a break all day. Nelson found an issue with the electricity supply coming in from the pole drop that was so severe Dominion came out at 2am that same night and did an emergency transformer repair. Turned out EVERY HOUSE on our entire block was having the same electrical issues in their homes for weeks, but no one else's electrician or service calls had figured it out until Nelson! That's when we realized he was truly an excellent electrician. We were so grateful to have our mystery electrical problems solved and sent him home with the little bit of cash we could scrounge up from our wallets at midnight and a case of cold soda as a thanks. He mailed us a *handwritten thank you note* on his own accord (nothing to do with his employer) shortly after. Who does that!? Nelson does that, because he is such a genuinely kind and caring person. Shortly after our first Nelson experience, we bought a home which had been neglected by the previous owners, lots of electrical issues and lack of modern receptacles, fixtures, etc. We thought of Nelson immediately. In the years since, he has done countless jobs for us. He has rewired things so each circuit controls a logical grouping of outlets, added new circuits to our box, new wiring and rewiring throughout the home, and replacing the motor of our attic fan. Nelson also did all the electrical work for our massive kitchen renovation where we tore out everything down to the studs. He added many new receptacles for us and ensured we had the right kind and number outlets to be up to code in our new kitchen. He laser leveled every last receptacle and switch box until they were all perfectly even height around the room. When our tile backsplash guy left things a bit haphazard, Nelson came back and painstakingly worked on getting our outlet covers perfectly seated over top of our beveled tile. Nelson has installed numerous pendant lights, as well as exhaust fans in our bathrooms where there previously weren't any, recessed lighting where there were no fixtures, wired the house and garage for CATV, etc. and more... ! He is always willing to talk through things with us and approaches our questions and inquiries with openness, never condescending. Further, he always works clean, wears a mask, shoe covers, etc. and is extremely respectful of our home. He also lovingly tolerates our 2 big rambunctious dogs hanging around while he works, both of them absolutely adore Nelson :) I've referred Nelson to family and on Nextdoor and only hear back the highest praises. It is really rare to find someone so trusthworthy and skilled, especially in this area with all the shoddy work, exorbitant prices, and big attitudes from others in the trades. My husband Kris and I recommend Nelson with our whole hearts and are so grateful to have met somebody that is kindhearted, skilled, ethical, and caring to help us in our journey as homeowners. Nelson is terrific, here's my experience: My daughter and her husband just bought their first home in Herndon, and as the dad/grandpa I wanted to help out by updating some things for them on our first visit. I went about upgrading all the light switches and outlets to a newer style and color. Everything was going fine until there was no power at all to a particular outlet, which had been working prior to me fussing with it. I went through all the things I thought could be causing the issue, but none resolved it. I was flying back to CA in a couple of days, and the last thing I wanted to do was say "sorry I messed up your new house, see ya!" On superbowl Sunday DURING THE SUPERBOWL we called and left a message for Nelson on his recorder. Before the game was over he had returned our call and made arrangements to be at the house the next morning. Within a few minutes of testing things Nelson found a broken wire inside unbroken insulation and solved the problem (I would have never found that). While he was there he gladly checked a few other things and found that although the outlets were wired correctly, the wiring that couldn't be accessed had been originally installed in a non-standard manner. He happily made the corrections. Nelson and his nephew spent a couple of hours cleaning up minor issues and discussing future safety upgrades. I had a lamppost on a sensor that hadn't worked since before I bought my house years ago. Nelson responded to someone else's request for an electrician on the NextDoor app, so I gave him a call. He advised he could come over to take a look, provide a quote, and then schedule the actual repair for another day. I will be honest, I can be picky with my contractors.
