We stopped in with four adults and two children. The service was friendly and very efficient. The seating was limited but it was not busy. The facility provides a cozy, simple place to enjoy your treats. We tried the Salted Caramel Mini Pancakes, the M&M Mini Pancakes, the Chocolate Banana Nut Crepe and the Biscoff Bubble Waffle. They were all superb. While not cheap, these desserts were worth the expenditure. With tax and tip, the total was $50. At less than $10 per person (including the kids), I was not concerned with the cost. In fact, I can say we over-indulged as the desserts were huge. We could have gotten by with one less item. The founder is from Nablus, Palestine, where the original pastry shop opened in 1902. My dad knew the original owner. His son moved to Dearborn in the 80's and opened up Masri Sweets, bringing Nablus style Knafeh which is known the world over. It's my favorite thing to eat here. They still carry on in the Palestinian tradition. Samples are handed out generously. You want a piece of pastry which might be $2 or $3 somewhere else, no problem. Take 2. Palestinian culture has historically been very generous with food. Guests never leave without eating, and strangers are always welcomed. What cynical irony that food is currently being used as a weapon of war against these people. I sometimes wonder if their hospitality wasn't their Achilles heel. If you're in Dearborn, head over to Masri sweets to experience not only world class Knafeh, but maybe some of that famous Palestinian hospitality.
