Yummy. I took my husband in here for ice cream. He picked out a banana split. Love that you can choose your ice creams. Our fave was the strawberry cheesecake. Giant amount of banana, this must have been a super long one. Toppings of chocolate, strawberry and caramel were tasty and just the right amount. Lots of whipped cream and three cherries (my fave). I opted for an agua fresca. Strawberry of course. I like the way they make it here. Not too sweet but just perfect. Very very strawberry. Basically drinking a much more refreshing strawberry. The large is seriously large. It took me forever to drink it, long past when we left the store. Not complaining a bit but be prepared. Super efficient staff. They got jam packed right after we sat down. So many little kids with their families. It was nice to see how happy they all were made with their treats. Stop in on your adventures. read more

I love supporting local businesses, especially good ones. This is a decent ice cream/treat shop located in the hispanic part of D-town. It has limited street parking available and a decent sized private lot nearby. There is also parking along the side of the building. I must admit, the place is not the cleanest place and they charge a surcharge if you are paying with a credit card. This is no place to dine-in. Everything is carryout here. They have a wide range of menu items including ice cream, banana splits, a Cheetos concoction, frozen bananas, elote, homemade popsicles, and fruit treats. I ordered the Fresa con crema. It was delicious. The fruit was so fresh. My only wish would have be to have the sweet cream cold. That would have put it over the top. This shop has delicious treats at a reasonable price. I recommend checking it out. read more

They've one of the best mangonadas that I've tasted so far! It's $6 , made with chilli mango icecream. The service is always nice and they are helpful when asked questions on the ingredients. I'd love to try their regular ice creams and yogurts. Most.l of their items are $6. Parking is a-bit tricky since it's a street parking but when you've a chance, grab their mangonadas! It's delicious! read more

La Michoacana - Mangonada! - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Detroit, Michigan

This place is straight fire The popsicles are really delicious. The rice flavor is excellent. Any of the melon flavors are also very well done. The mangonada is so good. They add the perfect amount of chili and the fresh fruit creates the perfect balance with the spices. The addition of the tamarind straw is a 10/10 edible garnish. My favorite thing about this place is the artwork. The hand painted mural with nods to the city of Detroit is aesthetic mastery (see attached pic). The interior color scheme is also pleasing and the sun-bleached decals lining the windows add to the overall charm. read more

After reading that this place makes its own ice cream and popsicles, I had to try it. And boy am I glad that I did! The hardest part is deciding what you want since, if you're like me, you'll probably want a little bit of everything. Guess I'll have to make a repeat visit very soon while the weather is still nice. I decided on a scoop of strawberry sorbet in a cone. It was dark red and loaded with real strawberries - delicious! And only $1.50! I also tried a bite of the pistachio ice cream which was loaded with nuts -that was also nice and creamy and very good. Last, I ordered a medium horchata (which was closer to a large) for $2 - also excellent - refreshing, cinnamony, and not too sweet. Next time I definitely want to try one (or several) of the mini 25 cent popsicles or maybe the strawberry and cream popsicle. So many options! I would definitely recommend trying this place out and don't be intimidated by the Spanish signs or low lighting. read more

Came here for some delicious paletas. I was not quite sure about the line or the ordering system but we did not have to wait long to order at the counter. The mango and the strawberry paletas were so good and they did not melt quickly, even on a very hot and humid day. We also bought fresas con crema to go and that was super refreshing. Overall, great desserts and good prices. I was surprised that this place existed in Michigan and I cannot wait to visit again. read more

Very, very disappointed. Went in today to get some ice cream. The girl, maybe only one there, was busy doing some measuring on a wall. After waiting several minutes to be taken care of I walked out. Bang for your buck- yummy ice cream and cold treats in Southwest. La Michoacana is a great stop for an ice cream cone, frozen banana or popsicle (made in house). They have a nice selection of flavors, ample seating inside, and you can sample the ice creams. The prices are also unreal. I paid $4 for two hand dipped cones! I didn't check out their food menu, but I also noticed that some people had ordered some pretty yummy looking plates of fast bite type food. Quick note: -There is a charge for using a credit/debit card, so make it easy on everyone and bring cash if you can. -Although they don't have outdoor seating, Clark park is right across the street! read more

La Michoacana - Pistachio double scoop - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Detroit, Michigan

TLDR: $1 scoops of good ice cream. You should try this place. We came here after hearing good things from a friend who loves their horchatas, but unfortunately I ended up not ordering one (which I should have). I decided to try their $5 fruit cup drink (not sure what the exact name of it is, but I think it might be the Fruta Nieve), which ultimately left me disappointed. It consisted of a large cup of assorted fruit slices, a base of fruit juice (I got mango), a popsicle (is it called a paleta?). If you ask for everything in terms of toppings, you get chile and some other spice on top of the drink. I know ice cream con chile is a common thing in Mexican culture, but I'm not the biggest fan of "con chile" after trying this Fruta Nieve with chile on top. The fruit juice base was great, and I enjoyed the fruit slices, but I didn't enjoy the added chile with my fruit flavors nor did I feel that this order was worth the $5, with or without the chile. I ended up ordering again, this time getting one scoop of Pistachio ice cream in a cup, which was only $1 (so worth), and it tasted great! So, my recommendation is to try the ice cream here, and probably the horchata, and order at your own risk the fruit cup drinks. FUN FACT: While we were eating our ice cream and drinking our interesting drinks, I learned from a wise member of the group that koalas are so dumb that they won't recognize and eat eucalyptus leaves (their main diet) that have fallen down and are laying on the ground; they'll only eat eucalyptus leaves from the tree. You learn something new every day. read more

I got the mangonada michoacana for $5 and it was soo good. I thought it was going to be sour, but the mango and the slush were really sweet and complimented the chili and the chamoy. read more

This is an awesome family owned and operated business. You feel like you're in another country walking into this establishment. Mexican music is on, practically everyone inside in Latin American, words are written in Spanish and everything on the menu is something I've never seen before! I asked what they suggest I try and they said the fruit cup with mango, chili and lime. I LOVED it! It was so fresh and delicious and very refreshing for a hot summer day. My friend got the same cup but added a watermelon Popsicle with strawberry juice(you can pick two juices to put inside your cup and a Popsicle) and lime. Hers was amazing!!! And this cup only costs 4 dollars. Definitely worth every dollar. The staff was friendly and helpful and made sure to help us pick something we were sure to love. They have many options to choose from like fruit bowls, cream and fruit, chips and cheese, fresh juices, house made frozen chocolate bananas, house made fruit and chocolate dipped Popsicles and much much more! All for very cheap prices. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Everyone should try this place once, you're bound to find something you like without putting a hole in your wallet. read more

La Michoacana - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Detroit, Michigan

Ice cream and I have a love-love relationship. I love it, and it loves to make me fat. We're happy together. Today I had a chance to visit Mexican Town, and our merry band had a hankering for something sweet (besides me). In comes Neveria whatever. This place offers more pros than cons, as you can already tell. Pros: +Vast selection of ice cream. +Great prices +Easy to find, look for the big "Ice Cream" sign on the front. +Tables to sit down and talk about all things fattening and sugar-related. +They make most of their own ice cream. +Fresh fruits galore! I imagine they puree their fruits to make ice cream bars, which is a dream come true! +Dat tamarind pepper paste on a stick tho!! +Cute girl works there with red hair. Might consider visiting here repeatedly to spit my game like in a romantic comedy or whatnot. Cons -Tables pretty dirty. But I guess they're busy so they dont have time to clean, so I'm not taking a star off. Notes: They get extremely busy, so expect to wait a bit. The sign says "line starts here", but people line up wherever they want. read more

¡Que bueno! If it wasn't for Dil, Michelle, or Matt i prob would've never found this oasis of frozen desserts...thanks Yelpers! : ) This place serves up freshly made fruit popsicles (aka paletas), agua frescas (a smoothie/fruit punch-like elixir), ice cream, and other off the menu items (like strawberries with freshly made creme) that are out of this world!!! After you're done hitting up the taco trucks along Vernor, def stop by this nevería (ice cream shop)! Also, don't be shy if you can't understand half the menu items, the workers there are very friendly and helpful in making suggestions or explaining the various items on the menu. Side note: prices are extremely reasonable (as in $0.25-$2 for most items) and there's parking available on the street...if not, their private lot (next to the building) has about 3-4 parking spots. p.s. being the linguistic nerd that I am, I HAD to Google the word Michoacana to find it what it meant. After doing my research i found that "it comes from the root word" Michoacán, which is a state in Mexico. So 'La Michoacana' means of the state of Michoacán. read more

My favorite Mexicantown trifecta is: lunch at Taqueria Lupitas, browsing for gifts at the little gift shop next door and rounding it out by swinging by La Gloria bakery. Neveria La Michoacana is part of my SECOND favorite Mexicantown trifecta, which is: lunch at Armandos, treats at the mexicantown bakery and POPSICLES at Neveria La Michoacana. You don't have to do the full trifecta to enjoy any of these experiences, but it is recommended. These popsicles are the real deal. Real fruit and SUPER CHEAP. Half of the fun is trying to guess what the flavors are on the menu which is written exclusively in spanish. I don't think there's anything scary like Pig Stomach popsicle, so I say just go for whatever one looks the best - which will be a hard choice. Also they have adorable little baby popsicles, so if you can find a baby to drag in here, I highly recommend it. read more

Latin America does almost everything better than its Spanish predecessors - language, food, dancing, governing - but there's one thing that Spain has that is missing in this hemisphere: real horchata, made into a milkshake-like consistency from the milk of the chufa nut. Mexican rice water horchata is just nowhere near as good. That being said, the horchata at Michoacana is almost as good as you'll find at Mi Pueblo (which might have the best horchata in town), and it's $1.50 for a small. The strawberry agua fresca was just unbelievable, with fresh fruit at the bottom. It was the tastiest thing I'd had to drink in a long time. So, while I can't find "real" horchata anywhere, this place is cheap, and so close to Armandos, Cafe Con Leche, and Mexican Town Bakery, etc, that I'll surely be back for an agua fresca or ice cream. read more

This is a unique, delicious ice cream shop offering many tasty treats that your average ice cream shop does not offer. The paletas or popsicles come in a variety of delicious flavors and there are even mini popsicles available for 25 cents each so you can pick a few different flavors to sample without committing to a large bar. They also offer strawberries and cream that looked fresh and lovely, although I did not have the pleasure of sampling this treat yet. My favorite treat however are the aguas frescas which are delicious, fruit flavored drinks served with cubed ice. They are so cold and refreshing on a hot day and the flavors are outstanding. I had my choice of pineapple, rice drink, strawberry, melon and mango. I chose melon and it really tasted like fresh cantaloupe! Give this store a try...it is a wonderful variation on the traditional American ice cream shop. read more

I will travel far if I know a place has good elote. It's hard to believe that such a simple Mexican dish isn't offered at more places. However it isn't. So of course when I saw LA Michoacanan had it , it was a must try. My husband is a big fan of all the fruity desserts that were on the menu so it was an easy sell. My elote came out piping hot in a cup. They told me before ordering it was not on the Cobb but in a cup. The elote had regular mayo and parmigiana cheese on it. I've never had it with parmigiana cheese traditionally it has Mexican cheese with mcKormick lime mayo and seasoning. The parmigiana cheese for me ruined it . In the ended I ended up throwing out my cup of yummy corn because there was to much cheese . The saltiness of parmigiana mixed with mayo was not a good combo. I was pretty bummed. The prices where great and they had an awesome selection of desserts. My husband was happy with his dessert and said he'd definitely go back again. So all in all I recommend them for ice cream and desserts but authentic elote is a definite no. read more

Always come here after Pollo Chapin, E&L Supermacado, and taco truck. When they are open that is. I'm all about the standard horchata, but this most recent time I mixed half vanilla, and half mango. Win! From my understanding and research the horchata here is most like the Guatemala version, which seems to be the prominent US style of rice milk with cinnamon. I always explain this to my friends as the flavor of cinnamon rice pudding, the consistency of milk, all while being ice cold and refreshing. read more

And it takes a bunch of stuff to rack up $10!! 3 kids each had double scoop in a chocolate dipped waffle cones.
