As a drive thru ice cream place with limited space, it makes it difficult when it's busy to line up. The layout eliminates my thinking of a possibility of a sample. I ended up going with the worker's recommendation without asking how caramel-y their turtle flavor was. It tasted like caramel ice cream with some chocolate thrown in rather than a base that is more swirled, allowing a more vanilla taste to come out. Caramel is often too sweet for me even as someone who enjoys sweets but it was too much unfortunately. The churn of the ice cream was pleasant and chewy. The total coming out to $6 including a chocolate cone surprised me. They have flurries and custards that I must come back to try. read more

Well, I thought I had gotten use to items getting smaller for the price. But this one really surprised me! I knew something was way off the moment I took my delivery bag. I had ordered 2 butterscotch sundaes in a cup at over 25.00. After I opened up a cup I noticed it was only 3/4 full. That was disappointing. But what was even worse, was what I discovered after I took one bite. I than noticed that the entire cup of ice cream was only on the side of the cup & it was completely hollow down the center and that it went all the way to the bottom of the cup. That's why they felt so light! Well, no thank you. Either up your price or not, but don't try to pull a fast one by tricking your customers. So no more ordering from here, not when I could get four times the amount, if not more at the grocery store, even at the inflated prices. read more

I love trying the myriad of one-of-a-kind little ice cream spots around Michigan that open just for the summer so natch I had to swing by King Kone when I was out and about recently. The drive-through is closed, but since driving while licking can be hazardous anyway, it didn't matter to me. Especially since there are plenty of tables with umbrellas out back where you can sit and enjoy whatever you choose. And, man, are there a lot of choices! Moved to the area about 6 months ago and loved going to King Kone with my wife and son. Never had any issues going through drive through on our bikes. Tonight we ride up there at 10:05pm and denied service because we where on our bicycles. Ok no problem we will order online and pick it up nope they closed online orders at 10:05 yet they don't close until 11pm. When King Kobe opened I'm sure there was a lot less built around them. Although KK offers drive-thru for the convenience but does halt drive-thru for the summer and allows only pedestrian traffic during the summer. Their menu is HUGE!! Every one who works here is so damn friendly and King Kone functions like a well-oiled machine, especially through the drive-thru with this pandemic. However, the ice cream is just not good. It's so icy, almost like the cream and the ice are separated. The first time i thought maybe I just had a bad batch and chalked it up to a fluke, but we brought our kids through because we all had a craving and even though everyone got something different, they all still tasted off. I did enjoy the banana, chocolate, strawberry mixed shake but with the syrups. When I got it with the fruit the strawberry overpowered the chocolate and banana. The Frozen Custard is a rich and creamy blend of frozen goodness and always a great treat on a hot summer day. They have a full compliment of ice cream sundaes, shakes and other cool treats, but I go for the pure vanilla custard, which can't be beat. Back and forth at this GC hotspot. Today was a good example. Great service, wonderful even, but the vanilla wasn't working very well and I had to get a twist and I didn't like the chocolate. Other days the service is bad and the medium I pay for comes in a small cone. But they did something different with the soft serve this year and it's really good. Last year it was too Icey. Mostly I get a vanilla cone dipped in cherry and it always runs down my hand! They always have a special. Today is death by chocolate for $1.99, chocolate ice cream, choco syrup, M&Ms, Heath , sprinkles, whipped cream and a cherry. Sometimes a sundae, other times a Boston cooler and always affordable. Specialties run kinda high but I think that about most things these days. First day they open is Nickel Day, that's right, cones for a nickel, right up my alley. King Kone is a nostalgic treasure. Theres always 50's music playing outside where you can sit at a bench or table. And then there's the bubbles on the building, they took forever to finish. It's Garden City, I can't imagine how many teens had their first job here. We have another well known chain walk-up ice cream spot just down the road but I love small business. read more

I discovered this amazing little ice cream joint near my house and was thoroughly pleased! Their ice cream is as good as it gets. They have around a dozen flavors, each one better than the next! Love this place I've lived in Garden City for 20 years and been here maybe 2 times came here a few months ago tried th custard I LOVE LOVE CUSTARD, their custard is amazing will not go anywhere else for custard ice cream. For example went the other day my husband gets me a quart of custard so I can put some in the freezer and have it thru the week, I take it with the Hard cherry topping I asked my girls if they could weave the cherry in and out so that its not just all on the top so it's all over they didn't even bat an eye they took such time and made sure it was throughout the whole quart of of custard.
