This is very old timey quick grab and chill spot. They have TONS of variety and the service is quick and kind in helping you. I will say I have choice overload from all the options. I got a baby chocolate chip cookie dough in a sugar cone and it was good (I wasn't in heaven from amazingness but I'm not an ice cream head). I really wanted soft serve with chocolate dip but it wasn't in the menu and then after we sat and ate I saw someone eating it so that's on me for not asking but with there 100 item menu I figured they'd have mentioned it in there. Parking lot here is pretty crazy, and the lines are always long. Good indication of summer when this place is open. We got the Strawberry shortcake sundae for 475 and the medium caramel and pineapple Sundae for 450. Both of these come with whip cream and cherries we told them to hold the crushed nuts. I ordered the vanilla custard with cherry dip and it was delicious. The custard is creamy perfection, not too thick or heavy. I happily finished off my cone. It's been a few years since I've ordered cherry dip and it brought back the classic artificial flavor of my childhood in the best way! My partner got the chocolate dip which tasted more like genuine chocolate. This has been my favorite ice cream place in Metro Detroit for years, my mom and I usually visit once a week. This season, their flurries, which are normally packed full of candy filling, have been awful. 1) They've been putting in half of the usual amount of candy. 2) They've been putting in 1/2 the amount of custard with the candy, mixing it up, then filling the top half of the flurry with plain vanilla ice cream, and not mixing it together. At first, I thought it was just a mistake. But out of the ~20 flurries I've had this season, maybe two have been fully mixed together. Additionally, they raised the price this season. Totally understandable IF you're going to keep providing the same quality product. I don't know about everyone else, but I don't want to eat through 1/2 a cup of plain custard just to get to what I actually ordered + paid for. read more

The other girl come in to weight it and told me, it is large. Then I looked at the weight. The weight not even on 0 and it is about 2 ounce over. My family and I have been going here for years. Not sure if I want to return after my last visit. Was about 90 degrees out and stopped by for a typical tradition. However, my medium peanut butter Sunday looked like an extra small. I am not exaggerating when I tell you the small plastic cup they handed me was only 60% full. This included the whipped cream, cherry and nuts. My wife ordered a medium cone dipped in sprinkles and it was as small if not smaller than last years small size. If you are going to downsize this much then don't raise prices. I should have figured something had changed when only 3 people were in line on a hot evening, around 7pm. read more

My husband and I stood in line leaving extra space in front of us, and three girls came to stand behind us much closer than six feet away. We have been going to Custard Time for years. It used to be great. Today we went and we ordered a cone we always get and it just tasted off. McDonald's ice cream level, I asked them about it and they weren't happy about it. It is clear the machine was broken or not mixing it right. The challenge I have is the team there is all very young and simple questions about why my cone was so off prompted a snarky remark. First visit to Custard Time in 2020 was a big disappointment.  We got 2 large chocolate custards in sugar cones with cups.  The amount of custard we received today would have been what you got if you ordered a small in past years.  We ordered large custards, paid the cost of large custards, but were served small amounts of custard.   Also ordered a medium custard in a waffle cone.   The custard did not even come to the top of the waffle cone.   Been coming to Custard Time for years, and were never served undersized custard portions until today.   Maybe Custard Time has new owners, and they are chintzy.   Will visit again to see if this was a fluke.  But if this happens again, wont be back, and will be sure to put Custard Time on blast. read more

I'll be honest that I can't quite tell if this is true custard. There are a lot of places, and it almost seems like the trend in the food industry, that an ice cream / soft serve stand is referred to as Custard these days. Soft Serve ice cream and frozen custard from a 'soft serve' machine are quite different things. That aside, the flavor is good and the service fast. I continue to give my money. They do a nice job of specials and rotating flavors. The mix in / flurry style seems to be a good draw with lots of mix in options. The real detriment to this place is their location. There's no great spot to form a line when it gets long due to the parking lot. There is also a continuation of the strip they are in that is set back further from Custard Time's end unit which makes for standard traffic crossing with pedestrians a mess. Custard Time is also flanked by a party store and pizza joint (one to each side) which creates a flurry of in and out traffic in the evening as you can imagine. That said, it all works out fine in the end. I was spoiled the past 35 years living on the East side with Erma's who operates stand alone spots with dedicated parking and lots of benches / picnic tables to relax with your family or friends, and treats. read more

We have been going to Custard Time for twelve years. It is a great local business that gives jobs to quite a few teenagers. Those teenagers put up with long lines of kids after baseball and soccer, or when the weather is just right. Since there is very little seating, just a few benches, it's best to leave --on foot, bike, or car and enjoy your treat. That gives spots so more folks can enjoy the rich custard on tap. The main course at this place is rich custard, vanilla, chocolate, or twist. It is delicious and since it is full fat and regular sugar, there is no funny after taste that you sometimes find with soft serve ice creams. You can have it in a dish or on a cone -- with sprinkles, nuts, dipped. Or you can have it in a cup topped with their delicious slushes (yes, pretend you are 10 to enjoy these). It also makes a great sundae or mixed up as a flurry. Some of my favorite combinations are marshmallow and peanut butter, or marshmallow and pineapple. In addition to custard, they serve hot dogs, a rotation of frozen yogurt flavors, and hand dipped ice cream. You don't need any of that. As good as it may be, stick with the custard! read more

This place is the BEST custard in the area! It's smooth, it's creamy and right next to my house, 3 things that sing to my heart. I'm so disappointed in myself that I've lived in Northville my whole life and I only found out about this place about 2 years ago. It isn't open all year so even when it's freezing outside and I want this place I patiently wait until the spring to finally satisfy my craving. I believe it's family owned and it's usually younger workers. No matter rain or shine I always see people lined up outside this place. Parking is kind of limited so watch for that. This is my go to place for custard. It doesn't make you feel too full or give you a sugar rush it's such a light consistency I could eat a tub and still not feel icky. You never get any lumps or bumps in your custard, portions vary depending on who is serving it. It is annoying cause sometimes you'll pay for a small and get medium portions or pay for a medium and get a small portion so that would be my only gripe. If you get a cup I recommend a medium, if you get the sugar cone I'd get a small! You can thank me after trying this place out! read more

The amount of time my friends and I spent deliberating the difference between custard and soft-serve made Custard Time so much better. The "soft-serve" menu items are, indeed, custard. They have many other items, but for the custard there is vanilla, chocolate, and twist. Classic. Bear in mind that the differences between the sizes is bigger than it sounds. You'd think that if 5 sizes are offered (x-small to x-large), then the growth would be gradual. This is not the case. The difference between a small and a medium is beyond my comprehension. That aside, I really liked this place when visiting Northville. The custard is not too rich and has a great, smooth texture. 10/10 would come again. or... 5/5? How does this even work? read more
