Today was our first visit, although I have been printing many items of theirs for many years. As of today, I regret never giving them a try. Our granddaughter is visiting from out of state, so we brought her here after lunch for a sweet treat, and it was amazing. Great customer service, great selection and very reasonably priced items. Granddaughter got a basic chocolate soft serve cone, Fiancé got a coffee shake and I got a peanut butter shake. Granddaughter loved her cone, and my Fiancé and I couldn't stop talking about the shakes. They were both phenomenal. We've made a pact to drive over this was a few times a month for our "sweet cheat" date nights. They really have it going on here! read more

Dairy King is one of my favorite summer stops in downtown Plymouth. I got the Cookie Monster ice cream and it was so good. It's the perfect place to grab a scoop and walk around downtown. There's almost always a line, but it moves surprisingly fast, so the wait is never too bad. read more

I have been going here for decades now and it's truly so consistently wonderful. It really is a staple of the Plymouth community and a must visit. It's always busy but lines move fast and service is great! The ice cream always has a new rotation so you can eat something new every time you go! When I think of DTP I think of Dairy King! read more

We were passing by and craving some ice cream. Google told me they have vegan options so we went. As always, my husband got the vanilla chocolate twist and I got their butter pecan vegan gelato. It was quite good, got the size small and it was huge. It was quite crowded but considering they are almost downtown Plymouth, I wasn't surprised. You can either order at the window or go inside. Parking is quite big for an ice cream spot. Did not have any issues finding spot. read more

I'm so glad it's spring and Dairy King is back open! There are plenty of choices for ice cream in Downtown Plymouth, but Dairy King remains my favorite. While hunting for dessert, we stumbled upon this place. It was fairly crowded for a Sunday noon but the employees were with it and kept the line moving quickly. They have rock n roll memorabilia that cover the walls throughout the store. Their selection is great with dairy free, sugar free, and gluten free options. A very large selection of Ashby and Guernsey ice creams, shakes, flurries and sundaes. My favorite is house made waffle cones, so yum. Great treats and we really enjoyed. The prices are fair and reasonable. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Limited parking but you can do street parking as-well. Enjoy a nice stroll through the downtown by getting your cone or cup to go. read more

I'm conflicted writing this review because I've been going here for years but this recent experience was quite disappointing and so was seeing recent reviews on Google for Dairy King. There's plenty of variety, employees are nice (most are teenagers or young adults), price is "ok" for what you get, but I would rather much visit the ice cream places down the blocks from Dairy King, since they're all close to each other anyway. My problem stems from how when they're busy, they don't want to get customers in/out the door. Some I see are visibly irritated with families with large orders because the family's of four or five have many ice cream requests. Not the biggest deal, which is where I come in. I've seen the countless, 100% Artificial Intelligence created boards that advertise and display their menu. To me, it's awful they can't use some of their employee's handwriting or creativity to make the displays (don't we see that at standard ice cream shops anyway?). It just didn't right that they couldn't pay even a one time fee for someone to create these menu boards, they rely on AI instead. I took a quick Google still on Dairy King's reviews about it, to see if I was the only one. Not surprisingly, I saw one person comment on it and said how it was disappointing. This reviewer wasn't even rude, just said how it's a frustrating experience for an ice cream shop. Rightfully so! It is! My even greater concern, where the one star officially comes in, is how the business owner on Google reviews for Dairy King was egocentric, and very passive aggressive with the reviewer, basically backing down on using AI without taking any kind of feedback for their restaurant. Isn't that what having an ice cream shop or any restraint about, listening and wanting feedback? For similar prices (and ice cream you can get anywhere else), I will not return. This whole experience, even after years of visits, is pretty upsetting and I expect better. 1/5 stars read more

We went here on a Friday evening and the line was around the corner. And once I tried the ice cream, I see why. They have Guernsey ice cream, which never disappoints. I stuck with the classic mint chocolate chip and cookies and crème. It was very rich and very tasty. I'll definitely be back and plan to venture out and try other things on the menu. read more

This place is 20 steps away from downtown Plymouth. Down the street from Kilwins We went there last night at 9.15pm and the place was BUSY! I dont think I have ever seen a dull moment at this Dairy King at all - whenever I drive by it. There was people sitting outside by the street enjoying ice cream, some were inside the shop and some like us took theirs to downtown Plymouth and to sit in the park or by the Water fountain. The best part about this unlike most icecream places is they have much more than just the softserve or sundaes. They have real icecream from Guernsey Dairy. We were 4 of us and we got these flavors : Chocolate, Moose tracks, Mackinaw Island Fudge and Michigan Pothole! All of them were delicious!! read more

I like the people a lot. LOVE their ice creams and yogurt. Mike, the owner is super nice as are all the kids helping.

My daughter had a huge craving for nostalgia and really wanted a character shaped ice cream novelty. Besides trying to track down an ice cream truck, which I rarely see, I knew of one place to satisfy her hankering and it was Dairy King. I had always wanted to try this place anyway since we always pass it during the art fair. This time we made a stop and it was well worth it. We purchased the very fun and fruity Power Puff girl cherry ice cream stick. It was loads of fun to eat and took us back to childhood. If you are also craving these gems, they had Spongbob, Spiderman, Minions, and Bugs Bunny. So fun! I had the regular scoop of ice cream with two flavors, playdough and peanut butter cookie dough topped with peanut butter sauce. It was delicious and a great price, especially compared to some of the other ice cream places in the area. This stand also serves sugar free, vegan, daily free, and oat milk items. The individuals working here were friendly and helpful. They looked up ingredients for us and were very accommodating. They serve Guernsey and Ashby's ice cream with all of the popular and delicious flavors. They also have cream puffs that look very delectable. I am sure we will be back for more novelties and scoops soon. read more

There aren't many hills I am willing to die on... bit find me a more delicious ice cream than the orange and vanilla twist with sprinkles in a freshly in house made waffle cone from the GOATS at DK. I'll wait... it doesn't exist. I have been coming to DK since the 90s and it's never not been great. It's family owned, Guernsey hard ice cream in stock, one of the coolest interiors especially if you like music and rock and roll, and they somehow keep the same kids working there year over year and keep a hall of fame roster with how many years everyone worked there. It's super cool. I start all my kids young on an orange and vanilla twist addiction, we even buy the gear we love it that much read more

Ooh eeh!!! That's some amazing ice cream! While we were there a family came in and said it was ice cream for dinner night for them. Now that's an idea and family tradition I can get behind! Don't miss this iconic frozen treat destination. The menu of how they can dish it up, mix it up, mix it in, blend it, top it and serve it up is extensive. Almost extensive as the historic rock 'n roll memorabilia and pictures that cover the walls inside. This is local and delicious done right, all the way around! The next I go an insider friend said to ask for the Sanders Hot Fudge Cream Puff with butter-pecan ice cream. I don't even know what that is, but I'm getting it! read more

Must Must Must!! If you are an Ice cream person, this is michigan must visit place. If you are not an Ice-cream person, you definitely must go here, you will change your mind and turn into one.. This is an old fashioned mom and pop kind of ice cream shop. My favorites here. HOT FUDGE CREAM PUFF... the name says it all. Puffy bun stuffed with cream and Ice-cream flavor of your choosing. Topped with sanders or regular hot fudge syrup.. it's a sin.. I know.. save if for a celebration.. :) They make their own waffle cones, if you request they give you the freshly made warm one.. wow.. crispy... By far my favorite ice cream place in michigan. The place gets busy busy busy, they have some parking, and plenty of street parking. They have window service (seasonly) and year round indoor service.. The staff is friendly and sweet. Definitely sample everything. read more

There is plenty of parking in the rear of the business. You have the option of ordering your dessert inside of the business or outside in the front of the business. A large printed menu is located in front of the business. The ice cream shop offers a variety of ice cream flavors and other cold treats such as frozen yogurt and sundaes. When we ordered four different items and the clerk did not write anything down my friend got nervous but the clerk got everyone's order correct. She was nice and got our orders to us quickly. I got the vanilla ice cream with peanut butter on a sugar cone. The ice cream was creamy and tasty and comparable in price to other ice cream shops. read more

Dairy King took me back to my childhood with coming back home from my grandparents house on Sunday. My mom and dad stopping at the ice cream parlor getting hand pack ice cream and sundaes. They all type of flavors some new some old and some way out. The staff was friendly and had a smile on their faces when we entered and when we left. I told them I had never been there before and they took there time to explain. What a awesome experience. If you ever on S. Main downtown in Plymouth go in. read more

First thing first...this place is cash only. Dairy King is definitely a downtown Plymouth staple! It's always busy and usually has a line, but the staff is friendly and fast. They can get a little pricey costing about $20 for 4 ice creams. This place is hit or miss with their flurries. But if you stick to a classic cone you'll always leave happy! P.S. Best ice cream ever. This is the real stuff people. Anything is awesome. Had the turtle Sunday. 5 stars.

This is my first time coming here and on a beautiful summer night, it was quite busy but the store handled the crowd quite well. There was clear markings to distance and cute inspirational fun sayings to read on the way to getting in line. One that was funny was the joke that toilet paper was acceptable currency. They have a large variety of sweet treats and a few vegan/nondairy items which although I like ice cream a lot, I have a dairy intolerance. Also helpful is a large sign with menu items in line so you can look at options. When you are enjoying yourself and the weather is great, the wait was not a big deal to me even though it was wrapped around the building. My son picked a cookie dough flurry with hot fudge mixed it and I chose a frozen coke. I was however tempted by the vegan black cherry but having a bit of stomach trouble played it safe. It is crowded for a reason, all of my friends including kids were happy with their items. read more

The servers are so polite, helpful, and will answer any of your questions. Customer service is great! Their prices are pretty good as well as their ice cream flavors, slushees, flurries, sundaes, sprinkles, toppings and much much more! They have plenty of fancy items as well and if you like candy on your ice cream here is the place to do it! Single scoops are plenty and they don't hold back on sprinkles. Updating because we love Dairy King. It was a staple for us this year (2020) and provided us with a safe and fun event for our kids to look forward to. The waffle cones are homemade and amazing. I learned this year that they also have a dark chocolate homemade hot fudge. I will never to back to regular hot fudge. Never. The Guernsey's ice cream they offer is fantastic. They also have dairy free, egg free, and gluten free options, which makes it a great stop where everyone can find something they like. Thanks for being a staple in our community, Dairy King! read more

I visited your Dairy King after having a bad day I wanted some ice cream. They had stopped serving flurries even though one was passed out literally minutes before I reached the counter. I grew up on this! I really do like it here. It is owned by locals and they seem to keep their help happy. You will always get good service and often a big smile too. It is very clean here which is nice of course. Quality soft serve, happy slushes, the kid beloved slush floats and ever popular flurries. It is my mom's fave place to get a Boston cooler and my dad's to get a black cow. He is also partial to the Guernsey ice cream they carry, including his all time fave butter pecan. They also do dipped ice cream bars and bananas. I love a good chocolate dipped frozen banana rolled in nuts. Wait, that sounds bad doesn't it? You will see locals and their pets stroll by on summer evenings, it is a chill, laid back kind of place even with the lines they can get. Very Plymouth. I think everyone in town comes here. I always have to try to look decent as i will run into people I know or at least knew when I lived here. read more

I got the cupcake and sprinkles flurry but the ice cream to sprinkle ratio was literally 1:1! The texture was horrible and the abundance of crunchies in every bite was too much for me. I threw it out after 2 bites :( every place I've ever been and gotten a cake batter flavored ice cream the sprinkles are super soft and undetectable. Not here :/ 1 flurry and one medium size cup of peanut butter mackinaw fudge ice cream (1 1/2 scoops) was almost $10 Also, the owner kinda had a funky attitude to the guy who didn't have cash since this place is CASH ONLY! One more thing, a poster off the wall fell on a pregnant ladies head- the only thing that guy said to her was "thankfully it was made out of foam" and didn't even apologize or refund her money. Would I come back or recommend them? Probably not read more

Traveling through Michigan, we figured it was time for some ice cream! We fired up the Yelp app and it pointed us to this Dairy King. One of my favorite things about Yelp is is that it helps us discover new places. Sometimes we get really lucky and experience something completely unique and off our own radar. This review is about Dairy King but it is also about the amazing town of Plymouth, which it calls home. If you are familiar with the movie "Back to the Future", it could've been filmed here. There is an obvious pride in Plymouth and we witnessed it everywhere. The old art-deco movie house is in pristine condition and running newly released films. The town square was vibrant and alive with big band music being played by local non-professional musicians :-) The popcorn vendor was friendly and selling popcorn for a good cause. The entire town simply brought smiles to our faces. It looks like there are also many good restaurants that we look forward to trying out. We've marked Plymouth in our GPS and plan to return soon. Oh right, the ice cream, delicious! The shop creates some really cool flavors and has a perfect 1940's/50's vibe. Don't miss this town, and don't miss stopping for some ice cream to eat while strolling around :-) read more

We stop at the Dairy King pretty frequently when we're just out cruising around on nice summer nights. It's always a good time, and I actually don't mind that there's usually a line. The people in line and working always seem to be in a good mood, and my daughter loves visiting with the dogs that many customers seem to have with them walking around downtown. My only word of warning is against the silly novelty ice creams. I once got my husband and I the Spiderman ice cream and the Race Car ice cream bars. They were horrible. The bubble gum that I was looking forward to in some sick, twisted way was even stale. I think this was mostly the fault of my own poor taste in choosing, though. read more

So disappointed, on Monday night (March 25th, 2024) over an hour before closing, we walked up to the OPEN and LIT window and waited. We were the only people standing outside with a few people inside waiting. Multiple workers stood inside, most of them on their phones while we waited outside to order like normal, we made eye contact through the OPEN window and were blatantly ignored, finally another man stood in line behind us and another 5 minutes later, a worker came to a closed window, flung it open and asked to help whoever was next and this man bolted around us before we could even get there and ordered. We waited, yet again until the man received his order, stood at the same window to order as it was slammed closed in our faces and these little teens turned their backs once again and ignored us. We walked away annoyed and really confused, no signs were posted about ordering inside and no one said ANYTHING. So insane, never experienced this level of childish disregard in my life. The Dairy KING is a historical place for Plymouth, MI. It is the best tasting ice cream, soft ice cream and frozen yogurt within miles. The others are "fake" tasting but Dairy King has creamy and flavorful ice cream products. My granddaughters love the Sponge Bob popsicles with gumballs in his face! You can go there and not spend a whole bunch of money and still get a treat. You can walk around Plymouth or sit on the steps in town. The lines are always long but they get them trimmed down very quickly. It never takes any time at all. They hire many of the High School kids that are out for the Summer and they are always the most kind and polite and pleasant teens and young people. The owner is visible most of the time and he's really nice too. We love to get in out of the hot Summer humidity at times and sit inside as well. The people that come inside are always kind and talkative too. People all speak highly of this little eclectic shop tucked away in the awesom fun town of Plymouth. They have Guernsy hard ice cream and many flavors too. It has been around forever and I think it will be around for a very long time. If you have to make a choice of which ice cream place to go to and you want to get help making that decision, look no farther because Im here to tell you to choose the Dairy King. It is awesome and it won't cost you more than a couple bucks each. My husband and I can visit for only $1 each, because we get a "baby cone" each most of the time. They don't mind at all.
